I have noticed that. This is the first time I have gotten to see them this year and Carolina just marched down the field on us. There was just no defensive pressure on Hall of Famer Derek Anderson LOL. I mean its Derek Anderson and he just went down the field on us.

WHAT A GREAT PLAYCALL BY HALEY???WTF

Yeah what the hell was that screen play near the endzone?

Quick Synopsis.

Landry Jones hasn't looked too bad. Jones started the game. Had a TD Pass to David Paulson. Players that have been standing out for us IMO Jones, Moye, Baxter, Woods. The defense has been okay at some points and abysmal in others. Curtis Brown has been awful and has been badly burnt by Tedd Ginn JR. on two separate occasions once giving up an 87yd TD that was wayyyy too easy. I'll also say that Felix Jones hasn't looked too shabby. Had a few nice little runs. Dropped an easy catch when he was the check down for Landry Jones once, other than that I like his speed and cutting abilities.

The Panthers started with Derek Anderson at QB and Anderson-Ginn have been single handedly making Curtis Brown and Robert Golden look like fools. That's pretty much the story for them.

Ted Ginn Jr is one of the fastest man in the NFL and first round pick. Curtis Brown is Curtis Brown. Ike Taylor would make ted Ginn his little b**** .

one of their starters is torching one of our guys who is trying to make the squad. So what. No need to panic.

IowaSteeler927
08-29-2013, 08:16 PM
Yeah it would be nice to get at least one win in the preseason but I think we're going to see a much better team than some might think come next week. It's hard to say but I saw a lot of improvement last week from our starting offense and I think our defense has a shot to be even better than last year. Polamalu is as healthy as I've seen him in years. He's flying around, and looks faster than he has been. He's not as tentative in making decisions, he just flies to the ball. That's the Troy I remember. I think a lot of this teams success is going to be based on how well our O-Line gels and develops chemistry, and whether or not our defense can generate turnovers. If the o-line does well, and the defense can be on the positive side of the turnover margin, I think this team can be damn good.

Curtis Brown was a 3rd Round pick. He hasn't played like a 3rd Round pick at any point in his career thus far. I personally think he's been a disappointment, and Tedd Ginn has bounced from team to team. Brown has been taken out back behind the woodshed by Ginn twice now. He shouldn't be having as much trouble as he has been.

I just don't see any reason we should keep Brown around, he's done nothing to inspire any kind of confidence even if he's only a back up.

We better. Of course they'll be better when the starters and key reserves play the entire game.....it's not a lab anymore.

What concerns me about going 0-4 in the preseason is the development of the mindset of a losing habit versus the mindset of a winning habit.

When the games really count and it's tight late in the 4th quarter what mindset do you want? "We will" make a play. "Will we" make a play?

Will they have the confidence to step up and make a game winning play or expect to make a mistake?

I don't think you can dismiss a winless preseason no matter who plays.

Gotta figure that a good number of the guys on the field wont be seeing much action at all in the reg season. At least I hope not.

Felix Jones has looked very good so far, that was a great acquisition. Since Dwyer put the ball on the turf he has been on a milk carton. Coincidence, I think not. Paulson looks like a beast, and Moye is making a good case to be on this roster. Moye has really brought it all preseason. I love this Arnfelt kid, he needs to stick around, as does Baxter.

Add these pieces in, along with a seemingly excellent draft class, and a great core of veterans and the future looks bright gents. This is a great foundation Colbert and Tomlin are laying for this year, and years to come. Our defense will be great, and the O-line will gel. Our offense will come around, hopefully at the right time. I think we all know what happens when a team gets hot at the right time. Where I live, the sky is firmly in place.:tt03:

Seriously though, I am concerned about the O-line specifically the tackle position, but they are young and haven't played much together. Along with them learning a new system, I think we can expect some growing pains, but they show some promise. Depth is also a concern, I wish Embernate was healthy. I think he would have challenged for a spot. Hopefully the injury bug doesn't hit to hard. The lack of Qb pressure is also concerning, but I have faith in that aspect.

Backups, for the most part, have looked great. Landry, not so great, but he's a third stringer anyway. I honestly believe that with the depth on offense, Ben could have a high scoring offense with the offensive backups. Really good backup talent on both sides of the ball.

It's absolutely silly to put any real faith into statistics like that, but it is interesting none the less. If you're actually concerned, though, that's kind of silly. Our starters looked good on offense and defense this preseason, and we have a lot of good depth on both sides of the ball. Giving a rookie QB considerable amounts of playing time was almost surely going to produce a hefty amount of rookie mistakes. He's not Ben. He will be a good backup with time, but I wasn't expecting anything this preseason in the second half, and I didn't get anything.

We looked good with the Starters in last game, and I think that trend will carry into the regular season.

Not true IMO.

These were real and legitimate regular season results after real and legitimate preseason games. It's data that can be analyzed and interpreted.

What's the basis for totally dismissing the results? Because it's preseason?

Not trying to be argumentative here but I don't buy the "no worries" approach.

I recall the Colts losing all four preseason games in 2005 or 2006 under Manning, and winning 13 or 14 straight regular season games. Sure, there's never been a Super Bowl win after losing all four preseason games, but there's a first time for everything. Just like when we won every playoff game on the road on the way to the Super Bowl and won it all with a 2nd year QB throwing passes. Remember?

It's an unfair comparison between him and Ben, really. Landry is working his way to that #2 spot on the depth chart. I believe a QB will drafted in a higher round to replace Ben when the time comes, and i'm confident Landry will improve over the next few years and capture that #2 spot. He can still learn. I'd honestly be curious in seeing Tom Brady's stats from 2000. It's my understanding that Belichick was either to go with Brady or Tim Rattay. Not saying that Jones is the new Brady or that he'll even be a starter but I'm not going to condemn the kid to failure over one lackluster preseason.

Also, I recall the Lions winning all preseason games and losing all 16 games in the regular season. Hell, I remember the Raiders going 3-1 in the preseason in 2006 or 2007 and finishing the season 2-14. Couple that with the Colts going 0-4 in the 2005 preseason and winning 13 straight games in the regular season, and no, i'm not worried at all. We have a lot of young players on the field the preseason, and the team looked good in game 3 (the only one that matters).

Also, contrary to popular belief, the 1982 Redskins won the Super Bowl after going winless in the preseason, and the 1990 Bills and 2000 Giants made it to the Super Bowl after going winless.

also the carolina players that played today, were stacked with ex-starter veterans, while we're playing guys who haven't sniffed a single nfl start.

we're going into the season with our starting lineup healthy, and that's a great thing considering what happened the last few years.

I was just talking with a buddy who is a Cowboys fan. Really Felix Jones is a talented guy. Has injury issues, but he played behind a lackluster offensive line in Dallas. The Cowboys keep trying to fix all their issues by getting new running backs instead of fixing the offensive line. That's why they've gone through Marion Barber, Felix Jones, Tashard Choice, and are now working on wasting Demarco Murray. I think Jones was an excellent pickup in a trade for a backup linebacker. He's got good speed, good vision, and I think he can be an asset to this team. The only reason I don't think he stuck with the Eagles is because they have Shady McCoy, Bryce Brown, and Chris Polk. It's a bit of a crowded backfield in Philly. Ours is too but I think I like Felix Jones over Stephens-Howling. With time I might even like him better than Dwyer or Redman.
