View Full Version : Ravens vs. Broncos predictions

So, what's your prediction for tonight's game?

I'm guessing 63-3 Broncos. The Ravens only score 3 because Billy Cundiff isn't on the team anymore, otherwise it'd be a shutout.

Blacksburg Zach

Unfortunately that will not pay off for me unless the comet strikes at the end of OT while both teams are still on the field

I've got the Broncos. I actually think the Ravens did the right thing with many of their FAs but the media has understated what losing both Reed and Lewis in the same year will mean. Lewis literally was that franchise. Tonight will be the first regular season game in Ravens history where Ray Lewis won't be on the Ravens roster. Considering how big a role he had on inspiring that team throughout the years, that can't be ignored. Anyhow, other predictions. Harrison beat me to it but Harbaugh will whine (what else is new?) and Peyton will do that annoying thing where he doesn't take the ball until the last second. Oh and we'll hear about how Flacco is now elite(I hate that word, so misused).

And to go with what you've said Teeg, Tomlin also is a guy who owns up to his own mistakes. You never see that with Harbaugh. There's always some excuse. They gave that chump a contract extension.

Harbaugh's new contract reportedly places him among the NFL's highest-paid coaches, along with Sean Payton (http://www.nfl.com/player/seanpayton/2522905/profile) of the New Orleans Saints (http://www.nfl.com/teams/neworleanssaints/profile?team=NO), Bill Belichick (http://www.nfl.com/player/billbelichick/2509331/profile) of the New England Patriots (http://www.nfl.com/teams/newenglandpatriots/profile?team=NE) and Andy Reid (http://www.nfl.com/player/andyreid/2523926/profile) of the Kansas City Chiefs (http://www.nfl.com/teams/kansascitychiefs/profile?team=KC). Now that Harbaugh is mentioned in the same breath as that heady company, it's only fair that he receive a pay raise and long-term commitment from Ravens (http://www.nfl.com/teams/baltimoreravens/profile?team=BAL) owner Steve Bisciotti.

Why Your Team Sucks 2013: Baltimore Ravens (http://deadspin.com/why-your-team-sucks-2013-baltimore-ravens-1079538404)

Your team: Baltimore Ravens

Your 2012 record: 10-6, Super Bowl champions. And the fun thing about being a hater is that I can concoct any number of completely stupid ways to discredit your title. You won only because Jimmy Smith held! You just got hot at the right time! If Rahim Moore weren't a fuckup and John Fox weren't a gutless coward, you'd be divisional round chum! Fluuuuuuuuke. The refs fucked the Niners over! RAY LEWIS IS STILL A MURDERER STABBY STAB STAB. Stupid Ravens fans. Winning a Super Bowl doesn't actually mean you're any good.

Your coach: John Harbaugh, who will stop at nothing to make sure that every TV camera in the stadium is tight on him screaming at an official while he stands two feet away from the hash marks. It's like he studied film of college basketball coaches and created the perfect amalgam of Coach K's, Rick Pitino's, and Gary Williams's histrionics. There should be a sign language interpreter or a Navy signalman in the corner of every Ravens broadcast, explaining why Harbaugh keeps flapping his arms like that.

Your quarterback: Joe Flacco. Now that the postseason is over, ol' Boring Joe (his family calls him Boring Joe because he's boring!) can go back to completing less than 60 percent of his passes, barely throwing 20 touchdowns, and being the AFC's answer to Eli Manning. He simply isn't the same passer without Ray Lewis's MAGIC JESUS HANDS guiding his passes. Also, Flacco got paid this offseason ($52 million guaranteed). With the remaining cap space, the Ravens have signed this velcro catch paddle to play wideout. I'm told it has better hands than Ed Dickson.

Your one fantasy player everyone will hate: Bernard Pierce, who will steal enough touchdowns from Ray Rice to devalue him, but not get enough carries of his own to be a worthwhile flex player. I hate players like this. They should be murdered. BY RAY LEWIS.

Why your team sucks: No Lewis. No Ed Reed. No Matt Birk. No Anquan Boldin. No Dennis Pitta (out for the year). No Paul Kruger. No Cary Williams. No Vonta Leach. Oh, but the team DID sign Rolando McClain to pick up some slack in the Get Arrested And Then Retire Department. This team was gutted in record time. And the worst part is that, even though they're destined to go 8-8, I'm still gonna get more Ray Lewis than I ever wanted because ESPN is gonna put him in front of a camera for 23 hours every day. Just one constant live stream of Lewis praising Jesus and fake-smiling as if he's never been complicit in the stabbing death of another human being. PUKE.

By the way, whenever you take a shot at Ray Lewis for the Atlanta stabbings, Ravens fans get all dismissive. You're still bringing that up? We're over it, you guys. NOW LET'S CRANK UP SOME DAUGHTRY AT THIS BARBECUE. Ravens fans are the sole reason that the Greene Turtle stays in business.

Their fans are posers: jorts-wearing crab-billies who love playing up their city's toughness but would never dare step foot inside Baltimore city limits. If you've been to Baltimore proper, you know that it's a third-world deathscape, dotted with hobos selling copper scrap and crazy-eyed meth zombies staring at you from atop abandoned railcars. I'm shocked that the Elysium space station can't be seen hovering over it. Billy from Glen Burnie is just as scared shitless of that town as any other American is, but that's not gonna stop him from rocking a pair of purple camo pants and pretending he's the leader of some kind of battalion of unarmed Grimaces. YOU'RE SO FUCKING HARD. If Ray Lewis showed up on some Ravens fans' doorstep, they'd spend the night hiding in the carport.

Why your team doesn't suck: They're maybe the best-run team in football, which means they can pick up a player like Elvis Dumervil and seamlessly integrate him into their defense without missing a beat. So annoying. If my team signed Elvis Dumervil, they'd overpay him and then try him out at free safety for the first three weeks.

The seven worst Ravens ever:

1. Kyle Boller. Still opposite-married to Carrie Prejean. I bet he's asked her to make a sex tape with him two dozen times only to get rejected. Poor bastard.

2. Tony Banks

3. Elvis Grbac

4. Stoney Case. You can see why the Ravens decided to heap 4,000 metric tons of gold bricks onto Joe Flacco after running through this progression of sorry-ass quarterbacks.

5. Roth (NOTE: Picture makes me kinda tingly)

6. Travis Taylor

7. Mark Clayton. There's something uniquely infuriating about a wideout who can consistently get separation from defensive backs but can NEVER catch the ball. You're a world-class athlete. How can it be hard for you to catch the fucking ball? You make me sick.

That annihilation was only about 50% Ravens ineptitude/lack of talent. It was 40% Broncos immense talent, and I would say 10% motivation/home field/effort.

The Ravens will play better (they can start by benching Huff), but may end up being around a .500 team.

But the Broncos are a damn good team. They finished last year with 11 straight wins, lost that crazy playoff game they should have won, and start this season with Manning's arm looking pretty good (unlike last year's first several games where he had strength issues). He dropped in several perfect semi-deep throws that were vintage Manning. They look better than last year, imo, and didn't even have Miller playing.

Welker looks like he will be a chain-mover, their huge TE looks like he could be a force (assuming other teams have no choice but to single him). Their run defense looked pretty good, their young LBs looked fast. All in all, I think they are likely the best team in the league. Perhaps if Kaepernick does not regress to the mean, S.F. might be in the same class.

While I agree, the Ravens' poor play resulted in some success for the Broncos, Peyton put on a clinic against that defense. I'd give a lot of the credit to that offense before using the "we beat ourselves" argument. The Broncos coached and played better than the Ravens did.

The Ravens' defense has a lot of new cogs, though. Plugging in a bunch of big-name free agents doesn't translate to immediate success, as the Redskins (pre-Shanahan) and Raiders have showed us over the years.

That said, it is Ozzie Newsome we're dealing with, and Steelers fans have to respect the man until he proves otherwise. Most of the free agents will probably pan out, and I don't see the Ravens being as bad all year as they were last night.

That, and the fact that so many of my friends are Ravens fans, I have to keep my mouth shut in case the Titans manage to pull off a miraculous win. :chuckle:

I really felt the game was competitive until harbaugh failed to challenge welker's dropped pass. after that, shit basically hit the fan. momentum swung in the broncos favor, and especially after a couple/few 3 and outs in a row by baltimore's offense, the game quickly got out of hand.

playing at mile high, in order to beat the broncos there, you need to keep your defense off the field or they're gonna get tired. tired defense against peyton manning = blowout.

I didn't get to see the game, but I've thought since Manning went to Denver they were going to be a superpower in the NFL. They seem to have played the offseason really well.

Yeah, I think they will likely have home field advantage in the playoffs. Their talent plus weak division is going to be another 13-3 or even better type of record.

Doesn't mean they cannot be beaten, especially in the playoffs when Manning goes into intense micromanagement overdrive, when the opposite is called for, and tends to overthink and choke a bit (compared to his regular season performances).

But they look damn good.

:chuckle:

Yeah, I didn't mean to suggest the "win" was largely a result of Ravens poor play. I was more referring to the score (utter ass-whooping). While Manning was on his game, we had a few blown coverages and inexcusable lapses (Huff literally diving out of the way like he was throwing the game on that WR screen to Demaryius that went yard, the blocked punt that gave them the ball at the 10, etc.).

We weren't going to win even with a good effort, but our poor effort made it a laughingstock in the 2nd half.

I agree that things may have been a bit different had Harbaugh not been his usual inept-at-challenges self on that Welker drop, but only in terms of the scoreboard (not the overall result).

We did benefit from Welker's fumbled punt in the first half and got a free 7 points. Of course we also had a goal line drop on 3rd down that cost us 4 points, so maybe it should have been 14 all at half without either occurring. We definitely looked better in the first half.

The second half however....Even though Michael Oher is not all that good, once he got injured, rookie Ricky Wagner got repeatedly schooled by Shaun Phillips. The halftime adjustments in general were terrible on our side. And we were flat out gassed compared to the Broncs. I think we were going to lose regardless of that missed challenge debacle, but who knows?

Huff was just lost out there. So many blown coverages and inexplicable mental lapses, it was a joke. Ed Dickson couldn't catch a cold, and he is playing in a contract year. Even our studs, like Yanda were getting pushed around. It was embarrassing.

The only refuge I can take about the game is that I really think Denver is flat out great, much better than last year. Of course perhaps they were so pissed about how last year ended for them, they were executing well above par. We'll see.

the turning point was right before flukko threw that first interception. something didnt go the ravens way and you could just tell he was gonna start pressing and choking and immediately he threw that pic.

the ravens have always been a momentum team who rode on ray lewis testosterone and jocularity, and as soon as they dont catch all the breaks or something goes wrong, they fold like a lawn chair. :tt02:

You were saying? :chuckle:

Geesh! Jumping all over somebody's failed prediction before the prerequisite 3 year waiting period is up is grossly premature and downright pure bad form, Blacksburg. I'm embarrassed for you.

It's pretty sweet not having all of the Ravens trolls here thumping their collective chests and rambling on about repeating today. I'm sure that will only last until their first win. The good news is that they'll be off the bandwagon again immediately after the loss following that.

As long as Manning's the QB, there's the possibility of choke. His track record says so.

Just like last year, the Broncos look great... once the second half begins.

So, what's your prediction for tonight's game?

I'm guessing 63-3 Broncos. The Ravens only score 3 because Billy Cundiff isn't on the team anymore, otherwise it'd be a shutout.

LOL! You weren't far off. :drink:

7 TD's and no field goals? Yikes!

It seems to me that several elite quarterbacks have consistently high red zone efficiency....Steelers not so much. lol
