These are dark days for Steelers fans but with the possible exception of the Texans no team has underperformed preseason expectations like the Falcons

That is on top of one Super Bowl appearance in franchise history (the team captain got arrested for solicitation of an undercover cop the night before the blowout loss to Elway's Broncos). Which leads to columns like this

So the Falcons stink. This could be another opportunity for the organization to orchestrate more projected images of the new stadium, just to distract from the fact that the season has blown up.

The Falcons are no strangers to disappointment and disaster. But this season, which has started 2-5 and is likely headed to sub-.500 oblivion, has the potential to be the worst in franchise history, given expectations. For the purposes of this blog, "worst ever" isn't a designation based merely on won-loss record but rather where most believed the franchise was headed.

Here’s my personal ranking of the top five. Make that bottom five.

Agreed - some Steelers fans seem to think every year should be a possible Super Bowl year but Atlanta fans, with no history of success, really thought this was the year after 5 straight playoff appearances with one win to show for it

So the expectations were much higher - thus my title for the thread
