I moved to Detroit 2 years ago for work and that's where my wife's family is from. I had only one cable choice at the new house, Charter. I just dumped Charter cable because they don't even get the NFL Network. I went with DirecTV and their NFL Sunday Ticket on a promo (I also upgraded to the Super Fan for all the games in High Def).

After the first week, I love it. I will never miss a Steeler game and can watch any other broadcast in glorious, 57" HD!

I highly recommend it to any out of towners stuck with bland cable.

I even get Fox Sports net Pittsburgh! Although they do black out Pirate games?I wonder if they will do the same for the Pens?

Yep if your out of market they will black out the Penguins games along with the Pirates. But DirectTV does offer the NHL package and MLB package.

I just graduated from college and finally have the spending cash to get the Ticket. I absolutely love it, even though the first 2 games are national. Even if I ever find myself back in the 'Burgh I will take my DirectTV and Sunday Ticket with me.

Just to let you know not all games are broadcast in HD. Only 5, or six per week. If you get the super-fan package the Red Zone channel is great for all you FF leaguers. No commercials.

NFL Sunday Ticket purchaser here since 1997 - unbelievable value for the $$$.

Since I finally went to HDTV this month, I upgraded to SuperFan to get the HDTV games. Only problem is the DirecTV HDTV dish requires a broader range of unobstructed view of the southwest sky to catch the 5 satellites that beam the HDTV braodcasts, so several trees in my backyard have met their demise. I guess every environmentalist has his breaking point - mine was doing whatever its takes to get Cowher & Co. in high-def.

There's nothing like watching the spit fly in HD.

I am bummed about DirectTV. I called an ordered the special deal that they have going on and the order went smooth enough. A few days later no one called to do the install, so I called for installation. I was on hold and getting transfered for 90 minutes, at this point I was so angry that I decided I should cancel my order because I don't want to be stuck with this type of customer service. I took a break and called them back, I was on hold for 30 min and did cancel it, but I was told I can call back within 7 days and get the same deal. Well, I really want the Sunday Ticket, so I called them back the next day to re order. The transfering of my call began again, I couldn't believe it. I was able to explain to one girl what was going on, she stayed on the line with me as she transfered my call. Well, she didn't transfer me to the right person, so this other person transfered us. She couldn't believe this herself, I told her all I want is my package and to schedule installation, why is this so hard??? During the transfer of calls she said she had my number incase we get disconnected that she'll call me back. I got disconnected and no call back. I really wanted Sunday Ticket, but its impossible for me to place my order, so now I am stuck with Comcast and not even NFL network (they are getting rid of it)!!!

Caligirl,

I did the whole thing online; it took about 10 minutes, including scheduling the installation. Everything went perfectly and the guy showed up exactly when I scheduled him. No transfers, you simply click on what you want, give billing info, done.

My family had the sunday ticket for a few years, but it doesn't compare to going to a Steeler club to watch the games. Of course they got the ticket there, but nothing is better than watching the game with 100 other diehards, almost like being at the game. There are Steeler clubs all over the place, just have to find them. I have found them in Tampa, Jax, and Baltimore/Annapolis.

:dancing: First season too. :chug: Chugging football this season like never before. It was unbelievable what garbage games were force fed to me where I am.

I still trek to the 'other side' to watch with the other Steelers faithful but I get to record and re-watch what I want to re-watch and not what ESPN thinks I should see. :fingers: to Sportscenter and the TO live update.

Cali, I hear you...they are terrible. Everyone is polite but they transfer you all over the place. Call and complain and they will give you the superfan upgrade for free plus an extra DVR or HD reciever. That's what I did.

Also, they contract out with local installers. I had all kinds of issues with guys not showing up and when they did, not wanting to do the install and leaving (I have a ground install on a pole mount). I called an independant dealer and they were great. no hold times, etc. Look online or in the phone book. Don't call DirecTV via a direct number.

I had at least eight to ten, not counting the few national games. From what I understand the SuperFan gives you more.

ONE thing I don't like is the Red Zone chanel isn't HD. Nor is the multiple game channels. Seems like they are made for widescreen.

One negative I have found with DirecTV is that they compress or down res some of their HD signals...notably HBOHD and the HDNET channels. Comcast HD channels did look sharper.

So far, I like it much better then cable for channel selection and number of HD channels.
One thing I do miss is the On Demand content. You don't get that with satellite.

It is getting more and more expensive but with a basic channel package it is much cheaper then cable.

Easy now..... I work for Charter.. lol.. i'm an installer and believe me.. it was tough to bring the van home so i could install my dish with my cable tools lol..hope no one saw me on the roof mounting the dish.. :P.. I've had sunday ticket since the 2nd year they started doing it and haven't missed a steelers game since.. Before then growing up in Montana and Oregon I think i saw them play a handful of times.. I got the superfan last year which happened to be the first year and it was ok but some of the features are pretty useless.. LIke the red zone.. why would i want to watch 7 games at once in such a tiny screen.. What makes up for it is the Shortcuts.. Can't believe no ones mentioned this beautiful feature.. Monday and Tuesday night you can watch every game in less than a half hour.. Not one game takes a minute longer it's unbelievabley just what i've always dreamed of..I would totally get the smallest package to get the nfl network but they want like $50 or more for it and i get everything on cable for free.. (except pay per views). So I'd basically be paying $50 for Nfl network cause i get all the other channels already..

Anyways.. that is the #1 complaint from customers that come back to cable is the customer service from dish.. be it network or directv or whatever.. they alwasy come back to cable cause non one can understand the guy from India or Pakistan..

That isn’t my issue. In fact DirecTV customer support has been 10 times better then Charter or Comcast, everyone I have talked to has been in the US. When i was with Charter, I talked to people in the Philippines. So, my friend, they all do that.

Charter screwed up my install twice and they charged me more then Comcast for slower Internet (3mbs vs. 6mbs for Comcast). Plus, no NFL Network which I watched a lot. Plus, when i moved and had to take Charter over Comcast, their signals seemed compressed in HD. ESPN pixilated and broke up all the time with Charter while with Comcast ESPNHD looked great. Funny thing is I had the same TV, same cables and Charter used the same Set Top box. So, it leads me to believe that Charter compresses their signal more.

I am so happy with DirecTV now that I won't go back......and it's cheaper!!!

Living around Philly, it is hit or miss with local broadcasts of Steelers games. This is my fourth year with Sunday Ticket and I love it!
