Well that was an uninspiring game of football offensively.

Some nice hits on the D by both teams.

Tell you what Ben is taking some chnaces holding on to that ball for so long - he really is going to get creamed sooner or later against this D.

If im a Pittsburgh fan im not too worried - the Jags are at home they are the ones who should be pushing this game - its just an ugly stalemate.

I don't care if it's 3-0 at the end of the game....as long as we have the 3.

I hear that :tt:

We need to get Hines involed and Heath Miller Hines only had one pass thrown to him so far got to get him involed.

jaysta
09-18-2006, 09:04 PM
we should still have more than 75 yards for a whole half no matter who we are playing...

Both defenses are tough, but I think we're playing down to their level on offense. Pittsburgh is known for doing this, but luckily we usually win in the end.

Swarming defenses making it hard for either side to get a running game going...Hanson keeps pinning us near the end zone. Ben is holding onto the ball too long.

Ben is holding onto the ball too long.

If he's going to shake off the rust, I hope he does it soon. Not to mention that 104 degree temp that he has isn't helping him any.

Come on then Steeler fans - what are the Steelers going to different second half?

Running to set up the pass clearly isnt working, would you switch it?

Maybe come out in the no-huddle and go 4 wide with Willie at tailback to exploit the space.

Or should they just pass more with a regular offensive set up.

I dont think either of these teams are going to hurt each other by hitting the tight ends on short curls and quick pitches.

The Jaguars are playing better b/c they understand who they are on offense. We are not sure at all. But one thing is certain, we are not a dominant run team as we were two seasons ago. We need to pass the ball to set up the run and not the other way around.

I will not get completely down on Ben for not having a great game. You have to remember that he didn't play a whole lot in the preseason, and missed the opener, so you have to grade this as his first game of the season. As for the people who say that we suck, one loss is not the worst thing in the world. All we need to do is get Ben in sync and get prepared for next week.

Yeah, but you gotta think that it's hard to run the ball on 3rd and long. Especially in the pros. Jacksonville is not weak against the run, as far as the last few years have been concerned, they have been better against the run than the pass. I don't really blame Willie at all for this. NO back in the history of football was moving the ball today against Jacksonville's D. The line provided no push whatsoever in the rushing game.

Ben basically got his first extended playing time since February; had to get it against someone and there are no gimmes on the schedule until mid-October - D played fine (although Cowher aparently had it at some point with Taylor playing 10 yards off the receiver) - will need to step it up on Sunday - I will go into panic mode only after we lose to a banged up Bengals team

I'm not blaming Willie for this. It was just a bad overall game offensively. Roethlisberger made some bad decisions, but it was understandable in his first extensive playing time. I expect us to rebound nicely next week.

There is a HUGE difference between the Jags D & Bengals D. I think Cowher will have this team ready for next week. If not, well then, we might be in some trouble. But I think that it'll be a completely different team next week at home against the Bengals. Ben will be more prepared, healthier, and alot more relaxed. I think that they need to put Najeh Davenport in immediately, I want to see him in next weeks game. And Willie Reid needs to be back handling punt & kick returns...

I agree the return game needs a boost - after he botched the initial punt return I believe we have seen the last of Coclough as a returner - would like to see what Reid can do but it may be an issue of him not dressing because we need bodies on special teams

Okay, I'm new here, so please excuse my painful lack of understanding...

Let me preface this by saying that I'm not complaining about the officiating or blaming it for the loss, and I apologize if someone has already raised the issue. The last time that Jax sacked Roethlisberger, on the replay it looked like the lineman (I don't know his name, sorry) made a very distinct second effort to bring him down by lunging at Ben's knees. Isn't that exactly what we were flagged for in the first quarter?

Many thanks to anyone who can shed light on the rule...

Wow. Jacksonville brings it. Everytime. Kudos to them, what can you say you know? That is one of the best defenses possibly in the league right now. I'm interested to see how they will do next week against Indianapolis. Some people are going to blame this loss on the play of Ben Roethlisberger...and I don't think that's correct. He did have some bad throws, esp on the last pick he threw. But it seemed like we got beat up front in the line of scrimmage. Fred Taylor had over 80 yards in the 2nd half...and our defense only had 1 sack (back in the 1st quarter) and forced a pick off a tipped pass. So I think there's no way one could blame the whole game on Ben. I dunno...tough loss...hate to be shutout..hopefully we're ready next week for the dog fight against Cincinnati.

Their defense will have 3 starters out next week - Pollack (out for year with broken neck), Jackson (knee) and Thurman (suspension). Plus, their starting center Rich Braham will also be out. That is pretty significant and will be a big factor, IMO. Two games against a mediocre team and a horrible team hasn't sold me on anything yet.

The Bengals D is not a dominant D. They're not gonna stop the run like Jacksonville did. With Odell Thurman out with the suspension, the middle will be open for Heath Miller. 09-18-2006, 11:24 PM
My thoughts, Ben should have played...Remember Indy last year? That I think got him ready for the run that we made at the end of the year. Speaking of the run last year.....Get your head out of your asses my friends! We were 7-5 last year after the loss to the Bengals at home! Some of us never give up and never say die, especially after the 2nd game of the season, by the way we are still 1-1!

I would like to give credit to our D, but I don't think they even played their best game. I seen a whole lot of missed tackles out there. I will tell you this, that O of Jacksonville is not that great, but we put way to much on our D and all and all they played a hell of a game.

Holmes needs to get is ass in the playbook! You go back and look at that 1st INT that Ben threw, it looks like to me (giving more credit to Ben then our 1st yr WR) that Holmes did not turn it up to the skinny post like he should have!

I do agree that Ben was not seeing the D like he should, but this will help him big time for next week and for the rest of the season! It just looked to me that he is not in game shape yet, that comes with being out there 104 temp or not. There was one play were he picked up the blitzing CB late and tried to get the ball to Ward and the pass was batted down by the Dline of the Jags. Problem is if you go back and watch it again, if the ball does not get batted down the saftey for the jags intercepts the ball and heads in for six. That is called timing my friends and you can do it in practice all day long, but until you do it in a game at game speed you do not get it down.

I will never bow down to the thinking that a loss is a good thing, but I will say this should make our guys be a little more focused for Bengals week.

I love the Steelers and always will 1-15 or 15-1 does'nt matter to me!

Now that this game is in the books lets get back to the basics and get ready for next week, for the team and all of us also!

For you Steeler fans it might not have been a good game to watch but, from the point of view of an unattached spectator, it was. Troy Palama??? was clearly hurt, but he played. Roethlisberger was hurting, but he played. Jacksonville's RBs took a real beating but never stopped bringing it. It was a good old fashioned hard nose football game. I enjoyed it.

Well, that was sucky, but honestly I'm not worried. Though the score was 9-0 I see this as a one-score loss: IE if we had gotten a single touchdown at any point before the 4th qtr I believe we would have won. Jags would have been under pressure, our D played well (if not great) as it was, and we could have controlled the game to a win, I think.

Every loss sucks, but this could have been a heck of a lot worse. People would do well not to read to much into one game.

Well we better bring it next week. D played decent but like it was said earlier, too many missed tackles. We simply made the Jaguars look much better than they really are! it will be nice to get back to a Sunday game. Playing back to back games under the opening nighter and then A Monday nighter, might have been too much to starts a season. Rather lose one now than later in the season. I still see us posting a 12-4 record this season, if not better.

We need a big win against division rivals...BEngals.

Hey everyone! I'm new to the forum, but I have alot to say.

Ben was bad last night. But he was playing not only 2 weeks post-op, but I hear also with a fever of 104. It was stupid of him to try and play, but he has shown us already that common sense is not his strong suit. :dang: But we love him none the less.

Defense on both teams was simply phenomenal. It was just punt after punt after punt. I agree with the announcer: this is a game you want to see played in december while it's snowing. It was a great game to watch, however disappointing for us.

But you know we'll come back stronger than ever. They can't keep us down!:jammin:
