MEDINA, Ohio -- Police said a gas station owner in Medina was so upset that two competitors were selling cheaper fuel that he vandalized their stations.

NewsChannel5 reported Steven Herold, 41, was charged with vandalism after he allegedly put glue in the credit card readers of his competitors, a Marathon station and a Clark Oil station.

The Shell station owner was also accused of spreading foul-smelling deer repellent on the pumps and throwing beer bottles through windows.

Police used surveillance tapes to identify a license plate and the owner.

He pleaded not guilty Monday in court to four counts of vandalism.

He will go on trial in January.

Man faces charge of choking girlfriend

A combination of all-day partying and a Steelers' loss incited a North Huntingdon Township man to allegedly choke and threaten his girlfriend's life after the game late Monday night, township police said.

Craig S. Dubich, 45, of 12010 McKee Road, was arraigned before North Huntingdon District Judge Douglas Weimer Tuesday morning on charges of terroristic threats, simple assault, harassment, possession of small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police were summoned to Dubich's residence on a domestic violence call at 11:59 p.m. involving an intoxicated male and possible weapons, according to the criminal complaint. When police arrived, Dubich's girlfriend, Tami Theobold, allegedly told them she returned home from work earlier and found the suspect had been drinking and using drugs all day. The woman told police Dubich was angry and accused her of taking his marijuana, according to the complaint.

The couple then started watching the Steelers game, police said.

During the game, Theobold said she and Dubich went to a nearby pizza shop to purchase a six-pack of beer, police said. While at the establishment, Dubich allegedly drank a couple of shots of alcohol and became angry because the Steelers were losing the game.

Dubich's anger increased when the couple returned home, police said, leading Dubich to allegedly grab the woman by the throat with both hands, choke her and threaten to kill her. Police said Dubich then threw his girlfriend to the ground. Theobold told police she got up, ran into a bedroom and locked herself inside.

Police located Dubich in his vehicle in the parking lot at Lions Park, on McKee Road. Police said they found suspected marijuana and a corncob smoking pipe inside the car. No weapons were found. He was taken into custody, police said.

He was released on $10,000 unsecured bail and faces a preliminary hearing Sept. 27 before Weimer.

Ann Emmerling, executive director of the Blackburn Center, an agency dealing with domestic violence issues in Greensburg, said in cases of abuse, power and control are the underlying issues.

"There may be something somebody can point to as a precipitating event -- a bad day at work, a loss of a football game -- but those are not the reasons that cause the abuse to happen," Emmerling said. "If a football game was a precipitator here, it was something else last week or will be another thing in a couple months."

PHOENIX, Arizona (Reuters) - Puzzled U.S. border police arrested a Mexican smuggler with 88 pounds (40-kg) of cheese hidden in a special compartment in his truck, police said on Friday.

Customs and Border Protection spokesman Roger Maier said officers at the port of entry in Columbus, New Mexico, referred a Chevrolet pickup for a routine secondary examination on Wednesday.

Officers using an X-ray machine saw the outline of 16 bulky packages stashed in a secret compartment behind the seat, which they initially believed were packets containing illicit drugs.

“Generally if you see something (with the X-ray machine) you expect it to be narcotics, but this turned out to be cheese,” Maier told Reuters by telephone.

Officers regularly impound drugs including marijuana, heroin and cocaine at border crossings from Mexico, although Maier said the smuggled cheese haul was unusual.

He smuggled CHEESE!!! The man risked life, limb and life imprisonment to bring illegal CHEESE into America!... CHEESE!!!
Hmmmmm...I wonder if after the U.S. Dairy Council heard about this little “cheese whiz,” they will announce that they are changing their slogan from “Ahhh, behind the power of cheese” to........... “He smuggled F****ing CHEESE!!!”. :dang: :dang:
