You're in it. I hope Sid & Geno are not on the same line. I like them better apart.

I agree Sid and Geno are only good when the team is looking for a quick score, but it looks like they are playing together tonight with Dupuis on the first line as well. Well Therrien made good moves last season so lets hope these lines work.

Your list is similar to mine...I would add the Miami Hurricanes...oh, sorry..The U :flap: . I never could stand them...going back to the 87 Fiesta Bowl.. their teams are always pretty much made up of a bunch of hoodlums( give or take a few good players lol). They came into that game soooo co-cky ..thought they would destroy Penn State. I can still hear the announcer now..."Testaverde..back to throw...looking for the endzone...INTERCEPTED Pete Giftopoulos!!" LOVED IT!

We have not even been on the PP yet tonight?
And now with 2 chances in front of the net cannot bury it.

steelpride12
01-28-2009, 07:13 PM
End of the first tied 1-1 goal from Sykora his 18th of the season.

Well Pens came out rusty as expected the Rangers played last night to have their legs back. Pens halfway threw finally came on strong with 4 straight shots and a goal. Staal looks beast out there right now and as much as i don't like Malkin and Crosby on the same line, they are playing explosive tonight and on several occasions one play away from a goal.
GO PENS!

TheSteelCurtain
01-28-2009, 07:28 PM
I was speaking of our power play in general.
We need to get a big win here. I like they way were playing for the most part.

Good 2nd period. 19 blocked shots .....:tt03:

steelpride12
01-28-2009, 08:02 PM
End of the second sure enough still knotted at 1 a piece. Pens look very good out there right now generating 17 shots with 19 blocked shots as well. Crosby is on fire right now missing on a tough shot and with Fluery playing as good as he is, the Pens have great chances to break this tie. Dupuis speed and Malkins finesse looked good as well as they came on strong after killing 2 PP in a row leaving the Rangers 0-3 tonight.
GO PENS!

That was about as good a game as I've seen from them...but, if it wasn't for Fleury slamming the door in the 2nd period, there wouldn't have been a 3rd period explosion. They were totally outplayed and outshot, and he came up huge. Sorry to be a bit of a buzzkill, but I had to point that out.

Now for some positives:

Letang's 2nd goal? Ridiculous.

Sid's goal? Even more ridiculous.

I've bashed this guy all season long, but I have to give credit where credit is due. Mark Eaton, stand up! Every time I looked up, he was blocking a shot or clearing the puck from the net. Awesome effort tonight.

All in all, a big win and hopefully the start of a big push toward the playoffs!

This game gives me more hope for the rest of the season. Fleury is getting that "fliud look" to his game. When he is in the zone he just slides from side to side to block the puck like you and me walking down the street. Obviously when any goaltender plays lights out , any team becomes hard to beat. However, when Fleury plays lights out the Pens can be just sick to try and beat.

I was positive about the Satan signing. Considering by that time there was not a whole lot left out there. However i have been anything but excited about him this season and if we dont let him go know we wont get a dime for him.

Looks like the Pens could be targeting Milan Hejduk and may re-acquire Colby Armstrong:

With the trade deadline five weeks away, the Pittsburgh Penguins are increasing their attempts to acquire a first-line player to skate alongside Sidney Crosby.

Last season, at the deadline, the Pens acquired Marian Hossa from the Atlanta Thashers and he played a vital role in the team's ride to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Penguins GM Ray Shero has been combing through the league, searching for a top-line sniper and appears willing to part with one of defenseman Ryan Whitney or center Jordan Staal in the process.

It's been widely reported the Penguins are interested in Tampa Bay Lightning star Martin St. Louis, but it's also believed the team is eyeing Colorado Avalanche All-Star Milan Hejduk.

Hejduk, 32, is making $4 million this season and has one-year remaining on his contract beyond this season.

The native of the Czech Republic has a no-trade clause and would have to agree to waive it in order for a deal to be completed.

The Avalanche is in the middle of a playoff battle, much like the Penguins, although it's been speculated that if Colorado falls lower down the standings they would consider their trading options and field offers for Hejduk.

Meanwhile, TSN reported yesterday that Shero is also interested in re-acquiring right wing Colby Armstrong from the Thrashers.

dam, beat me to the punch, ill was gonna to post that.

wouldnt mind grabbing hejduk, depending on the price. Whitney? Colorado could use a offensive defenseman, and the salarys match

Whitney + draft pick for Hejduk, im sure Hejduk would wave his no trade for a chance to play with Sidney Crosby. The only thing is, do we keep Geno on the wing or move him back down to his own line. it would be interesting to see the trickling effect of trading to get a top 6 forward

Colorado desperately needs an offensive defenseman, so Whitney + a pick should be enough. Plus, the Pens would get Hejduk for another year, so he wouldn't be just a rental. Funny thing is that the Bolts also need an offensive defenseman since they gave away Dan Boyle, so that trade might also work if they want St. Louis. Maybe Whitney, Satan + a pick for St. Louis and Adam Hall. I think if they landed either guy, then Geno would move back to center with Sykora and Tank when he gets back. The top line would be Staal-Crosby-Hejduk/St. Louis. Pretty damn good if you ask me.

well if that was the trade, then id jump at the St. Louis deal. id only be hesitant on what draft pick it would be that we are giving away. we dump Satan and get a bonafide Pker, sounds good to me!!!

Milan Hejduk 15 G 19 A 34 PTS -7 6 PIM
Martin St. Louis 18 G 30 A 48 PTS +10 4 PIM

i would still like to see Staal stick at center, he isnt a winger, stop trying to make him one, and i still think Dupuis can still hold his own on the top line, especially playing with Crosby and St. Louis/Hejduk

Dupuis-Crosby-St. Louis/Hejduk
Tank-Malkin-Sykora
Cooke-Staal-Kennedy
Talbot-Hall-Godard/Biz Nasty/Thomas/Minard (or jus bout any1)

if anything, throw Staal up with Geno until Tank gets back and then go back to that.

Vinny to the Canadiens!!!!! Not, doubt it happens unless the Canadiens are willing to give up all of their future for Vinny.

ive heard several things that said Gaborik still may be traded THIS season, not in the off-season around June, but by the deadline.

i heard the Jackets were close to bringing in Jason Spezza for Pascal Leclaire but Leclaire went down with an injury, so that blew that out the water. its too bad, blue jackets could of used another center to fill in for Brassard.

Hejduk has the skill to be at the top line with Crosby and since the Avs need an offensive defense men i could see this trade happening. As well i can see getting St. Louis as well i feel he would be a better match with Crosby with his speed and finesse.
Colby back, im not so sure. He is a town favorite for sure, but where would he go in place of someone unless we traded away Satan which would be nice.

im guessing Colby would be a last resort. As in if we cant grab Hejduk or St. Louis we will settle with Colby. i dont see us trading for Hejduk/St. Louis and Colby, too much. he has an extremely high chemistry level with Sid which could be just as useful as another player with an higher skill level.

Hejduk and St. Louis is a lot closer than you think. Hejduk has extremely quick hands and has great awareness in the offensive zone, he will get open for Sid and can def finish, he has a rocket richard trophy under him.

i dont know who i would rather land, wouldnt mind either. i guess it depends on who/what we would have to give up.

Yeah i dont really have a preferance. I have always liked St. Louis personally. And tampa bay is Pittsburgh south.
(IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE). I havent really seen Hejduk play a ton but I wont be made either way we go. But we need to get something done. I dont want it to be a year or 2 rental just so we can make the playoffs. We need to build a team to bring us a couple championships.

i have always liked both, i always thought colorado to be one of my 'secondary' teams ( i have a lot of secondary teams, ill watch jus bout any hockey game on TV. in the early 2000s once the pens had gotten knocked out or failed to make the playoffs id usually root for the Avalanche, Hejduk would be a HUGE addition, the old Tanguay-Druy-Hejduk line was one of my favorite line combos.

thats how i would rather have things ran. id rather win a lot of stanley cups than win 1 or 2 then go back into rebuilding mode

meh... I don't want Colby back...we have enough 3rd liners on the team.

Sid still needs a quality winger that can score off him.

I'd take St Louie or Hejduk in a heartbeat.

Frolov: cheapest, highest in goals, right handed.

yea, wat would be the asking price for Frolov though? i dont think he would come cheap though, they dont really need young d-man they are pretty stacked there. if they are gonna trade for Frolov they would probably want a high draft pick and a top-six prospect which we are shallow at and cant afford to trade any of them away, in my opinion.

We could dangle Whitney out as bait I suppose - we might get some nibbles.

Or sell off Eaton - our "offensive" defensivemen aren't doing much.

whitney would get some nibbles but not for Frolov. they have too many youn defenseman that are gonna be NHL ready, no sense in trading for another d-man

He is 32 gonna be 33 in june. Played in the pro's for 9 years. I would imagine played with sid already on the canadian team. If we are gonna give up a young player i would hope we could lock him up for atleast 2 years.

i dont think so, there is too much of an age difference for them to have played together in juniors and Sid has not played in any international tournaments since he has gone pro, it could be a possibility next year in the Olympics if Canada goes after St. Louis

As pittsburghp8baller said, St. Louis is 33, and he has 2 years left on his contract @ $4 million per season. So it would not be a rental at all - methinks Shero and the Pens had enough of that after being burned by That Guy Who Stiffed Us For Detroit.

they are both around the same age, St. Louis is a year older and is signed through the 2010-2011 season at 5.25 million a year, Hejduk is at 3.9 through the end of next season. if i HAD to chose i would go with Hejduk, cheeper, younger (not by much but still), and i feel if he succeds with Sid that he would be easier to re-sign than St. Louis. but like i said before ill take either, as long as it doesnt cost us too much.

Exactly my opinion to. Hejduk seems like he would fit the first line better and being younger is always a plaus even if it's not by much. I was hoping for no rental players after last seasons ordeal with Hossa being greedy and leaving to Detroit, so at least a 2 year deal plus for sure.

Alright Boys 5 minutes away from the drop of the puck and our Pens play the tough Devils who are leading our division, playing good defense, and just fresh off a win last night again the top seeded Bruins.
Orpik with return to the line up tonight, getting healthy now is key, and beating the devils in NJ would be another huge confidence boost and something to thrive on down the stretch!

I think the Penguins need to go get Defensemen in the trade market. They were one of the key parts that got the Penguins into the position they did. Fleury also needs to get his head on straight. This team didn't finish. The loss was well deserved.

How can you possibly blame Fleury when he got absolutely NO help from his defense all night? As I said, he deserves credit for keeping them in the game as long as he did. He's not Superman, for crying out loud.

Not even trying to save the shot that tied the game. That is something that I can not forgive Fleury for. I know he ain't Superman, but one thing that bugs me is when no effort is given. Otherwise, he was decent.

But I'm going to pound his Defense more though. Whitney is driving me up a wall. I had a feeling the Brooks Orpik return tonight was going to help this team. They can not afford the piss poor performance they had tonight if they're going into Toronto and are going to end up winning tomorrow night. It just won't cut it.

Did you happen to see that he did, in fact, make the save on that shot, but that the rebound went off Whitney's skate and into the net? How is that Fleury's fault? I'd call that a bad bounce, because if it doesn't hit Whitney's skate, it probably goes wide of the net. You can't blame the goaltender for bad bounce goals like that.

Our defense was pretty much pathetic the whole game..couldn't get pucks out of our own end. Facing all the shots he did, I was amazed the score wasn't higher than it was. Your defense has got to help your goalie out. We gave our defense a 3-1 lead...if anything, they lost this game for us...not Fleury.

Plus another thing that has really chapped my butt about the Pens is their POWERLESS play...ya can't score if ya don't get pucks to the net! They screw around and screw around with it...passing it to death....JUST SHOOT THE PUCK...good things happen when you get it to the net!

I hope they show up tonight in Toronto...I hate losing, but I hate losing to the Make Beliefs even more(it's a personal thing lol):mad: It is hockey night in Canada tonight too...lovely.

How could Fluery make the save when it went off Whit legs. Its a small accidental redirect from a good angle shot, nothing he could do. This game is on the defense for keeping the puck in our zone all game long!
Eaton is the only one who played anywhere near good. He had around 10 blocks and his positioning was good all night, but for everyone, Where the hell were you. WE HAD A 2 GOAL LEAD WITH TEN MIN. AND BLEW IT!
This is playoffs from here on out for the Pens and one point won't cut it. A win in Toronto is a must!

Words can't even describe how disappointed I was last night at the end of that game. It had looked like the team had a complete turnaround against the Rangers and for the better part of the Devils game....here's hoping they play a FULL 3 periods of hockey tonight.

Ok, Ok, I remove Guilt from Fleury. I still feel though either way Fleury NEEDS TO SIT TONIGHT, his body took so much abuse last night because of his piss poor D.

(Reffering to Whitney Bounce Comment) Or it could bounce of his skate and head in said wide of net direction.

I'm starting to wonder how much more time the Penguins will give before they finally give Whitney the Heave ho.

The Defense did screw it up yes, but also other guys could have still prevented the stupidity.

He didn't bother to look at it as he Whitney Stupidly put it in. I was watching the same game you were steelpride. The Whit/Fleury incident was part of the equation that blew it. Fleury is not as guilty in my book now.

Not to mention a win IN REGULATION is mandatory for the majority of this season that remains. Only losses can come in Overtime. NO REGULATION LOSSES.

Thankfully they have a game tonight and can get the frustration out of their system.

Otherwise read my response to XT

That is the truth - and it's been happening all year. The last turnover with 30 sec left that led directly to the tying goal was the icing on the cake.

Right now, the Pens are just a very mediocre one-line hockey team.

Bottom line - there's 32 games left, and the Pens need to win at least 20 to get to the big dance. It's all about the points.

Yep, that last turnover was inexcusable..when you have the lead and are THAT close to winning the game..you can NOT be turning over the puck like that! All they had to do was chip it out of their own end...and time would have run out and we would have 2 points instead of one. You are right....if they don't get their act together starting TONIGHT..they are not going to even make the playoffs.

Don't forget - it's 'Hockey Night in Canada' - the refs will keep the Leafs in the game, you betcha.

That call on Sid for slashing the ice was total crap.

But it was like men vs. boys there at the end. They played passive to protect the lead and lost the game. The story of our season...and that's on the coaching.

Bench Boucher. Bench Whitney. Bench Eaton (BONK - being a puck magnet is an overrated skill)
The non-stop turnovers in our own end the last 3 minutes were horrible to watch.

that means he is gonna being bashing malkin some more in his ever ending quest to get rid of all european players in the NHL

dam, im so happy that i missed the last part of the game. defense has always been a problem with the penguins, even during our Stanley Cup run. until we get a elite shutdown defenseman (unless you would consider Orpik a true-blue shutdown then we need another) we are gonna struggle.

unfortunetly unti the defense sures up, we may never see the true potential of Marc-Andre Fleury. he is constantly under fire and facing 30-40+ every night can drain him pretty quickly. im not surprised he has struggled with some injuries in his first two years of full-time starting

Morning Skate Update: 1/31
http://penguins.nhl.com/team/app/?service=page&page=NewsPage&articleid=407079

Goaltender Mathieu Garon will make his first start for Pittsburgh in the Penguins' matchup with the Toronto Maple Leafs Saturday night at Air Canada Center at 7 p.m.

The Penguins acquired Garon in a trade with the Edmonton Oilers Jan. 17 in exchange for netminder Dany Sabourin, forward Ryan Stone and a 2011 fourth-round pick. In 200 career starts, Garon has a 92-82-3-10 record with a 2.84 goals against average and .905 save percentage.

Pittsburgh held an optional morning skate on Saturday afternoon in which 11 players participated. Without a full compliment of players, line combinations couldn't be determinded.

However, pittsburghpenguins.com did learn that Alex Goligoski will play fourth-line wing in place of Paul Bissonnette. With Goligoski playing forward and Matt Cooke's return from suspension, the Penguins have 13 designated forwards. The final scratch will be a game-time decision.

It was also learned that defenseman Philippe Boucher will be scratched in the game, meaning Hal Gill will see game action after sitting out Friday night.

The Refs stole that game last night. Crosby did not slash anyone just the air, and how many hockey players complain about a call(most), so why did Sykora have to be the only one in like forever to get another 2 minutes for arguing. Sheesh!

Alright guys lets just take the point and move on to Toronto who have lost their last 4 at home so it won't be no easy task even with their top Defensive player out for 4 weeks. They scored 7 goals on the Avs, so our defense has to step up and I feel Gil will hold his load and Garon will shine.
