Troy Polamalu, who already has unorthodox training routines, has concocted an unusual recipe for getting healthy.

The Steelers' strong safety has been plagued by an injured right shoulder since the opener against Miami.

He played each of the past two games, although he was listed as questionable for each.

Over the past three days, Polamalu went through an intense rehabilitation routine that he described as "Eating junk food and watching movies."

"That's the truth," Polamalu added for the disbelieving. "Relax the mind, the body follows."

Polamalu, who disdains the use of weights to train, has mocked the regimen in training camp and the use of Gatorade as a thirst-quencher, practiced again yesterday.

Despite his shoulder injury, the two-time Pro Bowl strong safety has not missed a practice this year.

"It feels great, really good," Polamalu said.

And the movie he watched that helped the healing process?

"My wife and I watched 'Spaceballs'."

The guy's a professional athlete, so I'm not going to question his methods, but damn...

Jeez man, if you didn't know that he's usually serious, you'd think he was pulling someone's leg: "Yeah, before the game I like to fill up on Cotton Candy and Lick'em Ade."

In a few more years he won't be like this -- all those youth hormones are still carrying him - he will reach a stage soon where he has to work harder to stay in football shape - but he is serious right now - this guy is notorious for mocking guys who spend a lot of time in the weight room

LOl ,...Knock it off,...Troy's a WARRIOR. He understands the severity (or LACK thereof) of his injury. He could have played it melodramatic and said he's sleeping in oxygen chambers and various other bull ish ! LOL
But then again,.... would that be Honorable ?

Troy's version of "junk food" would probably seem pretty healthy to the rest of us!!!

I'm not worried about this boy at all........he just needs to keep doing whatever it is that has worked all along.......and lots of it!!

I COMPLETELY disagree. It is not that Troy doesn't work hard. Just the opposite. Last year, he came into to camp SEVERELY underweight because he had worked out so hard in the spring. What he criticizes is not the work of the guys in the room, but the methodology of the work. Troy uses different routines, different excercises, etc. to gain his strength. He beleives that methodology of his work is better transferred to the game then simply benchpressing hundreds of pounds a thousand times. After all, as Troy said in an interview, how often do you bring your arms all the way back even with the chest in a bench press position to hit someone? You don't. So don't train that way.

Troy is a man who is very aware of his body and what his body needs to heal. If he thinks junkfood, movies, and a Bill Cowher kiss will heal him... I will tend to agree!

If   :pizza: heals :crutches: ... GOD BLESS HIM!

Haha, yeah. I heard somewhere that he trains on the field barefoot. Not when others are on with cleats of course, but still.
