Spotlight on offensive linemen
By Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Jay Paris, North County (Calif.) Times

Elite: Steelers' Alan Faneca

PITTSBURGH ? Russ Grimm knows offensive line play the way an old Hog knows slop. Grimm was a ringleader of many great Washington Redskins lines, an all-1980s NFL guard with three Super Bowl rings and, this past year, a top 10 finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

He coaches the Steelers' offensive line and, after 24 years in the NFL, knows a good lineman when he sees one. He sees a great one every day in Pittsburgh guard Alan Faneca.

The NFL Alumni Association named Faneca the NFL's best offensive lineman in 2004 ? not just the best guard, the best of all the front five in the league. He's become a dominant force behind the Steelers' power running game and a supreme pass protector, so good that he played half the 2003 season at left tackle.

This is a good read. Faneca is one great player. I hope he stays in Pittsburgh for his whole career.
