Notebook: Cowher yet to decide on two starters

By The Tribune-Review
Friday, October 27, 2006

Two battles for starting positions have quietly been waged this week, and coach Bill Cowher said he wouldn't decide who would start at right guard and right cornerback against the Oakland Raiders until Sunday. Injuries to starters Kendall Simmons and Deshea Townsend provided an opportunity for Chris Kemoeatu and Bryant McFadden. And the two may have done well enough at guard and cornerback, respectively, to play their way into the starting lineup. Kemoeatu, who was only active for one game last season, has impressed teammates with his strength and power. The 6-foot-3, 344-pounder helped the Steelers rush for over 200 yards against the Kansas City Chiefs in his first NFL start. He also saw significant playing time in the second half against the Atlanta Falcons in place of Simmons. McFadden intercepted a pass against the Chiefs and started again last week against the Falcons. The second-year pro from Florida State is a couple of inches taller than Townsend, who has given up a couple of touchdowns to bigger receivers this season, despite being in good position.
"Both of those guys have played very well," Cowher said of Kemoeatu and Townsend.

? A whopping 13 Steelers made the team's injury report Thursday. Outside linebacker Joey Porter (hamstring) was upgraded from questionable to probable, and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (concussion) remains questionable. Wide receivers Sean Morey (toe) and Nate Washington (finger) were added to the injury list and are questionable and probable, respectively. Nose tackle Casey Hampton (hamstring) didn't practice yesterday and is questionable. Outside linebacker Clark Haggans (ankle) also missed part of practice and is questionable. Linebacker James Harrison (ankle), wide receiver Willie Reid (foot) and safety Mike Logan (hamstring) are out. For the Raiders, defensive tackle Warren Sapp (hip) is questionable, as is running back LaMont Jordan.

? The fans at Raiders games are rabid, rowdy and often case studies in human behavior. It's not uncommon for "Black Hole" denizens to wear costumes to games. So, the Steelers probably aren't sure what to expect Sunday, which is two days before Halloween.

"It's the Raider Nation," said right tackle Max Starks who will play his first game in Oakland, "so you expect some guys to look like some old WCW pro wrestler."

Maybe if Cowherd would dry his tears and stop whining about false starts he'd be able concentrate and make up his teeny little mind.

Asshat.

I see that BBBH, I mean CMAR, is back to the personal attacks because his knowledge of football has ended. Oh wait, who am I kidding, he never had any!

So I'm curious CMAR are you a seahags fan still crying about your team's lack of ability to overcome obstacles last year or a bungles fan still crying because your team lacked the fortitude to get past the first round of the playoffs?

I'm guessing your a fan of both teams. Isn't it funny how the teams you continue to cheer, continue to lose to the Steelers when it matters most!

I'm usually not in favor of Banning most of these morons. Their impotent "Napoleon Complex" driven foolishness just does'nt move me. I understand that they are probably,...absurd nerds,..and or insects in reality. So they vent the frustration of their inadequacies via the internet.
But when it get's to the "Fisher Price" point,......it's not even mildly entertaining. And i agree,.....the mods should take out the trash.
