my take on this season is i think with the super bowl win they lost what they had last year...the determination, fire, smart playing and never quit attitudes..

This year: Playing flat, dumb mistakes, turn-overs..all the excessive celecbrations....they didnt do it last year so all of a sudden they win a superbowl and they gotta do all the little dancing and shit..the nfl is only one season..after that the winners of the previous season means nothing and i think they forgot that...im a die hard steeler fan but watchingthem this season its not the same steelers and i think bill might of got that ****y attitude or lost control of some players...looks like there trying to be that fancy dancing team that there not rather than bust u in the mouth and just go back to the huddle team...my god what has happened??

I cant agree more. We've lost it. The attitude now sucks and this season is now over.

Just a quick and simple breakdown. Not going to bother getting detailed. I'd be typing in this thread all day long. My opinions and thoughts pertaining to this season as a whole...

Let's start with the offseason:

Ben's accident.

Holmes arrests.

Super Bowl attention (commercials, ceremonies every week, etc.)

Ben having that much success at such an early age. (Jack Ham even agrees).

Now, the preseason:

Ben's surgery.

Duce coming into camp looking like Eric Cartman leading to a man hunt for a running back up until the opener.

The Regular season:

Our schedule:

I'm not talking about our opponents. I'm talking about not being able to get on a smooth and consistent schedule. That is not an excuse, just putting it out there.

Our special teams:

We draft Reid and we don't use him for the first three games. Instead we use Colclough who looked horrible last season on PK's and KR's and we ended up paying for it. I blame Cowher for that decision (even though he's not permitted to take any blame).

Jeff Reed. Money with FG's from inside the 45 but his kickoffs are absolutey horrible.

KR and PR coverage has been horrible all season long. Losing Chidi to the Patriots and Silverback being out with an injury is not helping. Teams are starting their drives on the 35+.

Our offense:

The o-line is not playing like a top 3-5 NFL o-line. Willie can't run if there aren't any holes. QB protection was horrible against the Raiders (fourth quarter it got better) and Max Starks looks like a lost and beaten man.

Ben. Horrible decision making. I can't explain it. I'm not a doctor so I can't really say if they should or shouldn't play him. He looked great against the Chiefs and Falcons and yesterday he looked like a highschool QB. He's not the same QB.

WR's. None of them catch the ball on a consistent basis. I still think Cedrick Wilson is overrated. For the longest time this season he was MIA (much like in the first half of last season). He has troubles getting open and when Ben does throw to him I hold my breath. Hines Ward's celebration was completely idiotic. He shoud know better. Washington looks great at times and then drops the ball. Holmes shows flashes of a #1 pick but I hold my breath on PR's. It's scary.

Our defense:

For the most part, they have been solid all season long but making a stand during that Falcon game would have been nice even though turnovers were the main cause for that loss in my opinion.

Those are the main weaknesses in my opinion. There is zero discipline on that team this season. The dumb penalties, the basics (catching the ball and holding on to the ball) is proof enough in my book that this team is mentally weak and unsure of themselves. For the record, I was not expecting this team to repeat. That's very difficult in this day and age, but there is no excuse to stink this bad after coming off a Super Bowl season.

While this season is not completely lost, it's pretty damn close. For the most part, all we can do now is hope no major injuries occur and attempt to right the ship. End the season on a some what positive note, regroup after this season is over, draft well and get back on track next season.

How much did Jerome's retiring affect the leadership of this team? I commented a a few weeks ago that the team looked like it did not have an identity.
