New to the board. Been a fan since 1978 when i was 8 years old. Favorite team was the 1994 Steelers with Woodson ,Lloyd , Lake ,Kevin Greene , Ray Seals ,Buckner ,Chad Brown,Kirkland. I also was a big fan of the 84 team with Louie Lipps ,Mark Malone ,Stallworth ,Mike Merriweather ,Abercrombie and Pollard. Not one of there better teams ,but they were 9-7 that year and got past Denver in the 1st round. Lost to Miami 45-28. I live in LA,and have only got a chance to go to 3 steeler games in my life. 1983 When we lost to the Raiders in the playoffs 38-10 ,and 94 and 95 when we beat the Raiders in LA. Favorite ALL TIME steeler is my boy Rod Woodson.

I love all the Steelers, but I have to say Troy's my favorite for the present team.

My father was a big Redskins fan. First game I remember watching was Steelers and Dallas in teh Superbowl... Guess who we rooted for? Next time they made it to the Superbowl they played Dallas again. So we rooted for them again.

My father died just after that... March of 79. I had just turned eight years of age. (Yes, I didn't put the right birthdate on the signup. I used to work in banks and am VERY leary of putting actual personal statistics in public forums. I have seen too much fraud). My last football memory is rooting for the Steelers with him. they went the next year and beat the Rams. I have been a Steeler fan ever since.

Since 1975! Being a music nerd, I didn't get into football until I was almost a teenager, but once I did, I was hooked. The problem is, I came of age in an era when the Steelers were so totally dominant that it made watching some of those 80s teams really tough. When all you know is winning, it makes the losing really hard to take. Plus I lived in Cleveland for part of the 80s, so you can just imagine the abuse I took. Heck, I figure if I suffered through all those years, I can certainly make it through this one. The Steelers are my team until the day I die, in good times and in bad!

My parents never watched sports but all my friends watched Steeler games so I was always around it. (my grandad was a huge Pirate fan). I remember going to a friends house after I got married to watch one of the SuperBowls (circa 1979) and I really don't know anything else but the Steelers. I've lived in Cincinnati since 1984 and that's not near long enough to ever become a Bengals fan. I didn't follow football closely for a few years while I raising my son alone but if anybody asked me..........I always told them I was a Steeler fan!! Now that my son is grown and on his own.....I have more time for MY things.........and cheering the Steelrs on is one of my favorite things......win or lose!! My new husband is from upstate NY and grew up a Jets fan. He actually played for the Jets one year and the Vikings the next as a free agent defensive end in the mid 70's. I have successfully converted him into a Steeler fan!! He says he has always liked Bill Cowher and is happily sporting several Steelers ballcaps......especially to the gym to tick off the Bungal fans!!

Early 60s

Vague memories of going to Forbes Field (yep, they played there) with my Dad to see Bobby Layne play, followed by several games at Pitt Stadium during the Mike Nixon/Bill Austin era until Chuck Noll and deliverance arrived in 1969.

When I really started to follow them (read: when I understood what happens with the 22 guys running around on the field), it was the early 90's. I'd say I was about 7 or 8. I'd been watching, though, ever since I could remember. I remember once when I was 3 or 4, - Bubby Brister was QB - my dad almost threw the TV out the window. I'm 22 now, for the record.

I've always liked the Steelers but I've only really become a hardcore fan in the past several years.

I remember when I was in fifth grade and the Steelers were in the superbowl playing the Cowboys... my teacher had her students wear the colors of the teams they supported.

Now, I live deep in the heart of Texas, so I'll leave you to imagine how many other kids in my class were wearing black and gold that day. All I have to say is... thanks Mom!!!

I haven't been a fan for nearly as long as any of u guys. I have a long way to go before I'm considered a diehard. I've liked the Steelers for a couple of years, but didn't officially make them my team until the 2005 playoffs. I guess that would make me a bandwagoner to u guys, but I plan on proving my loyalty. Sticking with them through a season like this should be a good start.

HTG has been my best friend for 4 years now and we hang out a lot, and trust me dude...she really is in her 40s, and really is a total babe! She and I work out at a local gym and she really busts her ass in there, is in great shape and has a body that a lot of 30 year olds would kill to have! But most importantly, she is every bit as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. Being a hard-core football fan doesn't hurt either :wink02:

Since the 96 Superbowl against the Cowgirls. I remember always liking the Steelers (especially years before that superbowl during Pee-Wee Football when I saw the Steelers uniforms and wished I could be part of THAT team). My best friend and I have always hated the Cowboys because his older brother is a fan, so when they lost to them, our devotion to the Steelers began. I'm 23 years old now, so i guess i was about 13 yrs old then...

Since Im from around Altoona area in central Pa its really hard not to love the Steelers from your first breath. BUT somehow I did and I was a 49ers/Cheifs fan back in the day thanks Joe Montana. I always liked the Steelers but never really started to become die hard until the year (I think it was 93) when we lost to the Cheifs in OT in the playoffs thanks to Joe. (Im not sure because I was so young, I was maybe 11, not sure) Since then I swore I would never root for another team.

I was born in 1976. I have pictures of me as a baby waving around a terrible towel. Then, I started liking the Redskins as a kid. I loved John Riggens, Joey T, Russ Grimm and the hogs, Gary Clark, Art Monk, and Rickey Sanders. I didn't like the Steelers that much because my step father liked them, so of course I had to hate everything he liked. Then around 1996, I gave in and starting cheering again for my childhood team. GO STEELERS! I now bleed black and gold. I also have my two boys rooting for the Stillers! My favorite all time Steelers had to be John Stallworth.

I remember betting my dad (who never watched football) a dollar, which he did to make me happy. We watched together and I won (a dollar was alot of money back then for a kid) and have been a big fan ever since.

G'DAY

In 1992 Australian television started broadcasting the NFL on one of our smallest television stations, SBS. Living in a small country town in New South Wales, Australia we could only get five TV stations total.

I would sit up at 11.30pm to catch the NFL weekly highlights and the first game I ever saw was a STEELERS game at Arrowhead.

From that moment on I was converted from a rugby league and rugby union fan to a STEELER FAN.

Fan all my life. I'm 42 and was the only Stiller fan in the family (So Cal raised). I had to be devoted since I took so much grief for it!

Raise all my kids to be fans. In my house you're a Black & Gold fan or get out!!!

I've been a steelers fan since I have memory...
To be honest, I don't remember exactly when I saw
for the first time a Steelers game on TV (probably 1979-80),
but I do remember, they were using the home jersey... and I remember
the left side of the helmet... there was no logo!!... that catch my attention... :helmet:
it was love at first sight! I didn't know they were already a dynasty team...
Thats why I always use a steelers helmet in my sigs... :flap:

When I was little, we lived in western Maryland and, at that time, most of the folks in that area were either Colts or Steelers fans. Even though we were about the same distance from DC, nobody was a Skins fan because it was a blue collar area. My family was from western PA and a neighbor kid who picked on my was a Raiders fan so my choice was simple. I've been a Steelers fan ever since.

In my first six years watching football, the Steelers won four Super Bowls. That's pretty cool.

The Pirates were also really good at the time but I never got to see those great Steeler teams play in person. My dad and grandfather were big baseball fans so whenever we went to Pittsburgh, it was to see the Pirates. I saw some great games but I would trade them all to have seen one Steelers game back then.

Nice, easy question for ya..
I have been a fan since around 1980 or so. I love the Black N Gold and there will never be another team franchise like this my opinion. So, I guess I have been a fan for close to 30 years. I remember the Mark Malone days unfortunately right on up to the Bubby Brister days, right on up to the Kordell "slash" Stewart days and the Bam Morris led running game, shoot even Rich Erenberg being here. Tim Worley and Tom Ricketts being our last year with 2 number one draft picks and both pretty much did Nothing. OLB Huey Richardson being drafted out of Florida and never made it on the field very much at all either.
Have fun everyone with some of your greatest memories as well...

As a child I always liked the Steelers. My family is mostly Denver Broncos fans. I guess I'm what you would call the outcast. Every time my family gives me flack about the Steelers I always remind them how many SB trophies we have.:tt02:

I first became somewhat interested in football the year the Rams won the SB. I picked them to win their first playoff game because I liked their uniforms better than the opposing team's. (Hey, I'm just a girl.) By the time the SB came around, I liked both uniforms equally, but stuck with the Rams for the win and it worked. Hee. That was one of the more exciting SBs, I believe, and I was hooked.

I started following games proper the next year, which I think was when Maddox had a good season (his only good season, but at least he had one). I've been a devoted Steelers fan ever since. So how long is that? Five years or so?

I became a Steelers fan the day I moved to SW PA, after having been a Redskins fan for all 26 years before that. (moving to an area with an AFC team made it much easier, as I'm sure will make sense.) :)

I'll be 40 this year, and have not missed a snap of Steelers football since 1994.

Since my brother-in law took me to a Pirates game and we beat the Astros 5-3 when I was little and Pittsburgh became my all time favorite sports city and any Pittsburgh team is my favorite.

I had never been to any pro sports games before then, I think i was about 6 or 7 at the time, I didnt even live near near Pittsburgh......or even in PA at the time.

Steelers fan since i went to see Bobby Layne play at Forbes Field as a tyke - got in on the ground floor before the 70s golden age - my uncle had season tickets back then (no waiting list - LOL) and says the crowd was less upscale, more drunk, and certainly never left early to beat traffic if there was a good brawl to get into.

I've been a Steeler fan for 34 years. The first time I'd seen them on TV I became a fan. My mom and somebody else in my family bought me 2 ski caps for the winter, one was Steelers and the other a Redskins, I threw the Deadskins away..... the rest is history :helmet: :tt02:

I have been a Steelers fan since about 1969. Just something about them even before they started winning. I was a huge Pirates fan about the time when Clemente, Stargell and crew were there. I just naturally started liking the Steelers as well. I grew up in Montana and had no one to root for in those days. These days I find baseball boring but can thank the Pirates for being a Steelers fan.

Since about 1976-77. I was 5-6 years old and the Steelers were on the local stations every weekend. Thankfully, back then, the NFL didn't have the television rules they do now and as I continued to grow we got the Steelers - especially after the colts moved out of b-more! By the time I was 12 years old, there was ONE team in the NFL and 27 others that wanted to be us!!!

Born in Western PA in 1959, Steeler fan since I was old enough to bug my dad by asking him a million questions about which team was which, who was winning etc...

I'll never forget one time when I asked my dad if the Steelers were going to win and his answer was that they had as much of a chance of winning as the snowball I had just brought into the house had a chance of lasting if you put it on the heater vent.

It was still a few more years before the Steelers started to have a better chance than that snowball, but it's worked out pretty good since.

Became a fan in 1975-76. I was 2 1/2 years old. My mom and dad were having a Superbowl Party, My mom is Vikings fan, my dad likes Chiefs. During the superbowl party, everyone seemed to be rooting for the team in Blue and White...I liked the team in BLACK and wanted the team in black to win. They did. That year mom got me my first Steelers item, a t-shirt, since then, Its been Black and Gold for me. Oh, and mom still likes the Vikings, but she has a #7 Ben Jersey hanging in her closet. Pop still roots for the Chiefs. No idea why, think he won money on them back in the 60s.

I am hoping somebody that knows can tell me there is somebody older than me who is a member of this forum.

Unfortunately for me, I dont remember the Ultimate Dynasty of All-Time in the 70's. But I remember the year that Chuck Knoll benched Bradshaw for the final time, I still have the newspaper clippings somewhere where the 2 were feuding. And it wasnt long that the Steelers signed David Woodley. From that day on is where my real memories of being a Steelers fan begins. I remember going to my cousins grandmothers to watch a preseason game on ABC because none of us got the channel. My oldest brother and youngest cousin were always Steelers fans and my middle brother and older cousin were always and still are Cowboys fans. Those days it was Danny White's hay days as Cowboys QB. Just some great memories of Steelers history for myself. All you young folks out here.. .always remember these years as a young fan... they just fly by

My mom is a die hard fan. I was watching the Steeler's games while she fed me. So, I could say I've been a fan since birth.

However, I went through a stint when I was around five of liking the Saint (can't blame a kid... right?). I saw the light as mom gave me the good word and kept the preaching - she told me I was close to the 'right colors.' So, I've been a die hard for since about the age of 8 (or about 25 years).
