SI.com's Players to Watch: AFC North

Troy Polamalu
Safety
Steelers

Polamulu's outstanding '04 season was blemished somewhat when he was burned for a long touchdown against the Patriots in the AFC Championship Game. Polamulu led the Steelers with five interceptions last year, and he's outstanding against the run and rushing the passer. He has a knack for making big plays, and should have the same kind of impact safety Ed Reed has had on the Ravens defense.

Antwaan Randle El
Wide Receiver
Steelers

With Plaxico Burress gone to the Giants, Randle El will have a chance to become the No. 2 receiver if he can hold off former 49er Cedrick Wilson in training camp. The speedy Randle El is the most exciting player on Pittsburgh's offense, and with more opportunities this season, he should get a lot more national attention.

Joey Porter
Linebacker
Steelers

With the ascendancy of fellow Steelers LBs James Farrior and Clark Haggans, it's easy to forget about Porter. But Porter had seven sacks and made the Pro Bowl in '04. His numbers may be down from a few years ago, but for the Steelers defense to remain elite, Porter needs to play at a top level, even if pundits believe his career is on the way down.

Troy will be fine. I know the Pats playoff game was ugly for him. But thats our defense, troy is everywhere, so sometimes we lose our deep coverage safeties. And with Troy covering the entire field, he sometimes is going to get out of position. He is very aggresive, and most overly aggressive players , bite sometimes on good play fakes.

El has me a little concerned, I don`t beleive Pax was great. but I`m not sure that El is a star in the making.

Porter will bring it, every play. No problems there.

Troy will be a star player for a long time. I never really liked Randle El all that much. He has talent but not as much as he is given credit for. Porter did seem to slow down some after being shot.

Joey was playing with a gun shot wound he should be back to normal this year.. Troy was only in his second year plus it was Tom Brady the master faker.. hes fooled every DB once or twice...more speed at WR and DB and Hampton back!..the players too watch are the OL

This is what I want to watch. While Hoke filled in great, I do think Hampton is better and can free up the LB's for faster pressure.

I think Joey P's sack total dropped due to more pass coverage drops and more ILB twist blitzes. He is a machine that won't quit. And Troy is on the top three favorite Steelers lists of alot of people I know out here in San Diego. Being that he did come from USC helps alot too. The tazmanian devil will be chopping down defenders once again this year.
