The Rams also finalized contracts Wednesday with cornerback Chidi Iwouma and kick returner Willie Ponder, who averaged 23.5 yards on 25 kickoffs in six games this season with Seattle. Ponder was a sixth-round draft choice of the New York Giants in 2003 out of Southeast Missouri State. He led the NFL with a 26.9 average in 2004. Iwouma was the Super Bowl XL champion Pirttsburgh Steelers’ special teams co-captain in 2005 and is a six-year veteran from the University of California at Berkeley.

I love watching teams take it back to our 40-45 on KO's. It's great. I mean, it doesn't cause my heart to pump out of my chest or a thumping pain on the side of my head. I love it.

That was one of the dumbest things Coach Cowher ever has done when he cut Chidi.

And then not resigning him when he had the chance. Hell, he's had two chances to resign him. :dang:

I guess we can continue watching our ST's get torched on kick returns.

I loved Chidi. He made tackles, and would fly down the field to try and spot the ball on the 1, and would barely miss. We still have to be reasonable though; the loss of Chidi isn't the only reason our special teams are struggling. James Harrison is out too. Maybe it is the combination of no Chidi, Harrison, and the season as a whole, but PLEASE don't say our special teams are only struggling because Chidi is gone.

Also remember, we cut Chidi after he recieved that concussion.

Haven't seen anybody say he's the "only reason" why our ST's are struggling. He's definately part of the reason, that's for sure. Does he need to be the "only reason" in order for us to resign him?

Yes having James Harrison out hurts the special teams also. But cutting the special teams captian from last year was stupid. I know Morey has that role this year but I always felt Chidi was our best kick coverage player. Cutting him sure hasn't helped the special teams. The coverage units and Colcloughs/Holmes fumbles on punt returns has killed the team this year. Plus Jeff Reed also isn't having his best year. The Steelers special teams=very bad. How does Kevin Spencer still have a job?

My son was thrilled when he learned Chidi was free to be signed again, and he figured Bill would snap him up.

Now I have to tell him that the Rams got him... :(

There has to be a reason he's getting cut though. Why would 2 teams cut him in such a short period of time?

Ponder is the second special teams guy that the Rams have signed away from the Seahawks this season. We keep on having to cut people for the week because of all of our injury reshuffling and the Rams pick them up. But we are pretty set on Nate Burleson being our return guy after his return for a TD last week.

I guess that guy really isnt as good as i've been reading here - he obviously was a good ST player but there must be quite a drop-off in his effectiveness to see him dropped by so many teams.

I'm starting to believe the same. Amazing how a guy can go from a ST's captain on a SB team to getting bounced around from team to team.

On top of the cap hit, we couldn't afford to dump him. Chidi is not the answer at DB and I'm even starting to question his ST's ability. As LITP pointed out, something is wrong if the guy keeps bouncing from team to team. Then again, I'll take a cardboard cutout at this point in time on ST's. Eitherway, I find it hard to consider Chidi a liable/better subsitution for IKE at DB, plus the cap hit would be enormous.

How long is Ike in for?????

Ike Taylor signed a four-year, $23.75 million contract extension through 2010 on 9/3/2006. The deal includes $6.4 million in guarantees and $15.5 million over the first three years. Taylor is to be paid a $1.1 million roster bonus over the duration of the contract. He can earn another $1.25 million if he reaches certain performance bonuses.

Ditto. I can't believe they never scooped him back up.
