View Full Version : When Did You Conclude The Playoffs Were Unlikely

Eternal optimism is part of being a fan and after 2005 anything obviously is possible, but the Steelers have been betting on "scenarios" for making the playoffs for some time this season. I will watch the Steelers win or lose, but for that reason it is impossible not to notice when a season seems hexed.

T.H. and I briefly discussed this in the game day thread, but at what point did it dawn on you that this season probably would not include the playoffs?

For me it was the San Diego game. Coming out of the bye week the Steelers traditionally have played well, but after roaring out to a 10-0 lead the defense was dominated and the running game was non-existent. That game opened my eyes that the Jax game was not a hiccup and this year's edition of the Steelers had major probems. Every disaster since then simply built on that perfoemance.

With a 1-3 record, getting to 10-6 and having a realistic playoff shot suddenly became a reach.

Today...most of our loses were handed to our opponent as gifts and after beating New orleans and coming from behind to beat Cleveland i thought it could actually happen..today however... wow

When we were down 17 - 0. I knew the playoff hopes were over. I seen in Cowhers face a guy who is retiring. Cowher the not so normal quiet person of years past has had his quiet season going on until he retire's at season end and announces it. While fans hurt inside others on the field let us down playing with no heart.

Enjoy your retirement Cowher, we will miss ya. Bring on the Whiz.

I hope next year that are corners do not play 20 yards off of WR's. Good QB's take advantage of it all year long.

looking at the way last season played out, i thought the initial bengals/steelers matchup was a must win game.

if we didnt beat the chargers last year the chargers were in and the steelers dont even sniff their 5th superbowl.

both of those games were important for momentum and making it into the playoffs. it was over early for the steelers by losing 2 games we dominated early.

Fair to say fortune,.... "Clubber Lang'd" my resolve with today's debacle in Baltimore. LOL But we'll be back. We just have to lace up our boots and correct our shortcomings from an organizational standpoint. From the front office down.

I'm with everybody else... the loss to the Raiders pretty much extinguished the bulk of hope for this season.

After the Raider game. Atleast next year we can look forward to a 7-9 or 6-10 kind of schedule. You know, the one Baltimore has or the Bungles had last year.

I started to worry after the Oakland game, but today was definitely the deciding factor for me.
