I was just interested in in seeing if anyone has met a past/present steeler. I know some of you have for sure. I myself have met Louis Lipps and John Banaszak.

I have met two past Steelers. Kevin Henry and Antwaan Randle El. El is a real nice person and signed an autograph for me. Sad thing is my Grandfather played for the Steelers. But I never knew my Grandfather. He died before I was born.

When I went to training camp this past summer, I met Jeff Reed, Nate Washington, Quincy Morgan and Mike Barr. Mike Barr was a punter, but they cut him from the roster. I talked to him for like 15 minutes and he was really nice!! I have all of their autographs and a picture of them.
I really want to meet Randle El, Ward and Roethlisberger, but I'll have to go to DC to meet Randle El and next summer at training camp, I'll meet Ben and Hines and take a picture with them.

Banaszak recruited me to play at W&J (he def showed me the Super Bowl ring) he almost got me too, simply bc the cafeteria was run by Eat n Park and they had smiley cookies.

I also sold Joey Porter a basketball hoop when I worked at the Dicks Sporting Goods at Robinson. I met the Bus there too, when he came and shot free throws with kids in the store by the escalators, I have a few pics with him, i need to dig those up. My buddies wife danced with Deshea at a club downtown.....everytime he makes a bad play he yells at his wife for letting him grind her LOL.

This is a post I made a few months back about my encounter with Franco - I also went to the hotel they were staying at for the SB that year...funny story - Thigpen told everybody he wasn't a player - he said he was just a friend of Leon Searcy's visiting, so everybody left him alone and didn't ask for his autograph - my brother knew for sure it was Thigpen, so he yelled really loud in the lobby while pointing to Thigpen--"Ladies and Gentleman - Yancy Thigpen!!" and everybody ran over to him...

I ran into Franco when I was living in AZ - he was there for the Super Bowl (the ODonnell one) - there were a lot of events leading up to the game - I went to one Franco was at - there were a lot of people yelling for his autograph and he said politely "sorry guys, I'm here for the fans and charity - not to make you money with my autograph" - he kept walking so I yelled "hey Franco you had 1055 yards your rookie season, you had 158 yards in SB IX and were the MVP, etc after a few more stats I said "I'm one of your biggest fans!" -- he turned around and walked over to me and said "I'm sorry these guys have been following us all week" - he then glared at two of the idiots he was referring to because they were sticking several mini Steeler helmets in his face to sign and you could see they had a whole box of them along with Cowboy ones too - he glared at them until they backed away and then he grabbed a pen out of his pocket to sign an autograph for me - I said " I don't want an autograph - I just want to shake your hand and tell you I had a great time watching you play when I was a kid" - he flashed a huge Italian smile and said "thanks man - you just made my day.."

Well, I moved away in '87, so it's been a while.

Swann (met him in a jewelry store downtown)
Bradshaw (saw him at the Eagles/Giants game this year, said hey)
Rocky Bleier (a couple motivational speeches)
Terry Hanratty (he was on my route when I was an ice cream man)
Sam Davis (at a sportsmen's dinner, he was not such a big guy!)
Franco Harris (bumped carts with him in the supermarket in Shadyside!)
Courson (bad story involving a bar fight)
Lambert (he used to jog around the baseball field at Riverside Park in Oakmont with his g/f in the early '80s)
Bill Nelsen ('60s QB, went to my church when I was a kid)
Joe Gilliam (met him at a semi-pro game in the early '80s; the Steelmen? Ironmen? Something like that)

Those are the ones I remember.

I coached HS football games against Jon Kolb, really great guy. Also, remember when Iron City would bring the Steelers around. I met Rocky, Bradshaw, Swann, Harris, and Ham this way as a kid. It is a shame that everything is corporate now and a hometown business like IC can't even produce commemorative cans for the Steelers because of NFL licensing rights.

My boy got to talk with Kimo a little at last years monday night game at Indy...He promised to return and sign his hat..but as he was coming back to us..Indy security nazi's kicked us out of the section...(about an hour before the game started...soooo I'm guessing it had less to do with security as it did with us being Steelers fans.....OR they didnt want us to see the speakers used to artificially inflate crowd noise:sofunny: )

This isn't the first time I've heard bad things abuot Ben in person. A person at the San Diego/Pittsburgh game told me that a little girl at the hotel asked Ben to autograph a hines ward jersey. He said he only signs his own jerseys and walked away.

I've met Blier, Zeroe, Foote and Foo, Don't even ask me to spell it, hard enough to just say it. Got all of their autographs, Blier had all of his rings there, as I was drooling over them he told me to try one on, tried on the first one, what a thrill that was. He was really cool, signed 2 pictures for me, gave one to a buddy for his birthday, thought he was gonna cry, he told me Blier was his favorite player because he overcame so much just to play. Blier was very cool to talk to, great guy. Foote was as well!! My alltime dream would be to meet Lambert, Bradshaw, Harris and Ham. Hopefully i'll get to camp next year and meet some guys. How do you find out where any of the past or present players are signing autographs, is there a site to watch?

I work at the nations 6th busiest airport...I met and talked to Franco and Dermonti Dawson.... I don't ask for autographs.... not my style...

Both were really cool and I was so excited that they treated me good... Franco asked me if I was from the "Burgh" because of my STEELERS lanyard, and watch that were hanging from my neck....

Dermonti was dragging his golf bag down the crosswalk when I noticed a golf bag drag across me that said DERMONTI DAWSON .......... I didn't recogonize him, but I knew the name........ Dermonti was very cool.... he is such a big strong guy!

My co-worker at McCarran Inlt Airport met Ben last March 2005... he said Ben was cool... AND when he asked what Ben was waiting for in the terminal.... he said Carson Palmer !!!!!!!!!!! And that they were going to a big party at the Palms Casino.....

All these QB'S are friends.... they stick together!

I've met quite a few former Steelers as I dated a Steeler in the early 90's, but I'm not going to reveal his name as I would probably be pelted with cyber tomatoes and I'd be PO'd if I had to do my hair all over again - LOL! Nicest and funniest guy you'd ever want to meet, seriously, though he wasn't viewed that way by most fans.

Most of these guys are very personable off the field and just want to be treated like average Joes, believe it or not. There are a few who don't fall under that description, of course, but I didn't find that to be the 'norm'.

As far as present Steelers go, XT and I met several at this year's kickoff luncheon at the Hilton Hotel, but the most memorable moment at that event was running into Mr. Rooney in the vestibule and personally shaking his hand, seeing that lovely smile of his and thanking him for all he has done for us Steelers fans! :tt02:

1. I met Chuck Noll after a game and had a picture taken with him.

2. I shook hands with Bubby Brister.

3. I shouldn't brag about these but I met and took pictures of the following after a game, Joe Walton, former offensive coordinator. Delton "TOAST" Hall. Thomas Everett, he was a decent safety. Bubby Brister's mother, this picture didn't turn out well, it looks as if she has fire all around her. Tim Worley, former RB.

4. I spoke to Kevin Henry prior to a game. This was the week after his big interception helped us defeat the Patriots @ Foxboro.

5. I'm friends with Dick LeBeau's brother so I went to a playoff game against Buffalo with him. This was the year that we went to Super Bowl XXX. After the game we went to LeBeau's office and I spoke with him for a few minutes. Dick LeBeau's wife pointed out Rod Woodson and told me to go get his autograph. Well I certainly did. Woodson was kind of rude but oh well.

While standing in LeBeau's office I looked across the hallway and saw a familiar looking guy waiting for Coach Cowher. The guy ended up being Kevin Costner. We just kind of looked at each other. I heard that Costner was dating one of the Rooney girls. To tell you the truth, Costner is fairly ugly in person. He has a bad complexion, freckles and such.

6. I rode in an elevator with former defensive coordinator, Jim Hasslet. I spoke to him but he just smiled and nodded.

I could name quite a few more but I don't want to sound like a glutton. The key to meeting players is to stay at or visit the hotel that Steelers are staying in the night before games.

I met a lot actually. While working with DeCa in Europe for over 10 years, I got to meet every older and some of the newer steelers up to 2003. I enjoyed talking with terry and franco, walking beside The Bus at Landstuhl hospital and getting 2 hats signed while there. I have met Rod, Blunt, Lambert, Green, and more. Good thing about working with DeCa they handled all the signings and bringing the players in, so they always came up to headquarters. We had terry and franco at one of the company outings, playing softball, grilling out, horseshoes, they had a great time. We always see them pretty close at games but to be up and close to them and talk with them is just totally great. I still have not met Ben and Parker, who I wish I could meet. I think my cancer will kick my butt before I get any more chances.

I was staitioned in Kaiserslautern, Germany and one day I was on my way to the Commissary (Military Grocery store) There were a lot of people in the store and I could not for the life of me figure out why. As I walked in I saw these guys sitting at a table at the front of the store. I thought to myself the one guy looked familiar. Sure enough, I look at the sign and see that it is Rocky Blier. Holy S$@T!!! I could not believe it. I noticed that they were only there for a short time and the time was almost up. I asked them if I could run to the sports store and buy a football for him to sign. He told me to go ahead and that he would wait. I run to the sore thinking to myself, " I doubt he is going to wait for me". I return back and there is Rocky sitting there by himself ( the other players had gone back tot he hotel) waiting! I could not believe it. I took out the un-inflated football and was handing it to him and he asked me what my name was. I told him that my name was Dan, but that my friends all called me Grifster. He looked at me and said," well, I guess I will have to sign this to the Grifster then" That was an experience I will never forget. That was just the coolest of cools. I have met a lot of celebrities and VIPs through my job, but that was the best experience of my life.
