View Full Version : Q&A with Chidi Iwuoma

Chidi Iwuoma is a special teams specialist who was released by the Steelers right before the start of the season. Now, he's back on the roster and could be in the lineup tonight when the Steelers play the Cleveland Browns at Heinz Field.

Iwuoma is a cornerback who began his NFL career in 2001 with Detroit. He joined the Steelers in 2002 as a free agent and developed a reputation for making big plays. He was special teams captain in 2005 when he finished second on the team with 19 special teams tackles, and also added a fumble recovery and a forced fumble.

After the Steelers released him, Iwuoma had stints with New England and St. Louis. When the Steelers needed to add a defensive back because of injuries to safeties Troy Polamalu and Ryan Clark, coach Bill Cowher didn't hesitate to pluck Iwuoma off the waiver wire -- three weeks after St. Louis released him.

Question: Happy to be back with the Steelers?

Answer: I'm glad to finish my world tour in the NFL and be back home with the Steelers. Hopefully, I can come in and make an impact on special teams.

Q: What's it like playing for three NFL teams within a span of two months?

A: When you're in a place for so long -- I was in Pittsburgh for some years -- you get used to certain things, the players. When you get outside, you see different things. It's good to come back to a familiar place.

Q: What have you been doing to get ready for your second chance with the Steelers?

A: Just working out. I've been on a few teams. I've been on workouts, so I've been active. I haven't been sitting around too much. The phone call came in explaining the situation. I was happy to get that call.

Q: Will it be an easy transition coming back to the Steelers?

A: Without a doubt. No real transition. I'll pretty much step in and pick up where I left off. It's a good situation. I'm looking forward to picking up where I left off.

Maybe this time they'll realize how valuable of a player he truly is to the team and won't let him go!!!

Do you all think they picked him up intending to keep him on a long-term basis? Or just to patch up some holes?

If Chidi helps our special teams AT ALL...he will lock himself into a roster spot!!!

I'm happy to see that's Chidi's coming back and who knows, maybe Mays will take advantage of this extra chance, though I still haven't gotten over the QM situation.
