I am sitting here typing this while listening to Christmas songs on Channel 13 here in Pittsburgh. I love the beauty of the Christmas season and the lovely way some of these Christmas songs are performed by various artists. Some of them even make me cry, notably "Where Are You Christmas", "Silent Night" and "O Holy Night" (especially the beautiful rendition by Josh Groban).

In the non-season category, there are a couple of songs that make my eyes well up every time I hear them.

Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton always gets me good.

One More Day by Diamond Rio.

Concrete Angel by Martina McBride

Faithfully by Journey (long story).

NOTE - Rap music always makes me cry........IN PAIN! LOL!

What songs past or present can bring a tear to your eye?

presently, "Fire Fall Down" by Hillsong Worship, or "Lord Im Amazed by You" by Desperation Band.

i admit to a weird one, I was divorced in 1985 when I was 23. The video "Sara" by Starship started playing on MTV. the combination of his lost love and flashbacks to losing his mother as a little boy used to make me lose it every time.

I am not very religious, but "Amazing Grace" gets me every time.

The first that came to mind was "It Is Well With My Soul". I sang that at my Dad's memorial service.

"The River" sung by Robert Downey Jr. It's very mournful.

"I'm Proud to an American" - Lee Greenwood. That one gets me every time.

"Coming to America" - Neil Diamond. They played that song on the plane that carried the hostages returning from Iran all those years ago as the plane entered US airspace. I can't begin imagine how those men felt finally coming home........alive.

I am not very religious, but "Amazing Grace" gets me every time.amazing grace on the bagpipes is awesome. i will request that to be played at my funeral. :crying01:  :tombstone

as for christmas songs, id have to say the "little drummer boy" by neil diamond is the best at drawing up some emotion. :jammin:

but nothing gets to me more than queen's "we are the champions" when its the steelers on the podium receiving that lombardi! :tt02: :yeehaw:

Oh most definitely those two songs get to me, as well, Stillers. American Soldier by Toby Keith also gets the tears flowing. I'm a fiercely patriotic person and sometimes - especially if played by a military band - the National Anthem brings tears to my eyes.

Tony - when my Dad died, he had a military funeral as he was a proud WWII vet. I had tried to be the pillar of strength for my Mom and kids, but when the bagpipes were played, I broke down.

Eric Clapton-Tears In Heaven gets me to.

But here are some more.

Butterfly Kisses-My cousin was killed in a car accident when she was 16. She was more like a sister to me to. They played that song at her funeral since that was one of her favorite songs. I still can't listen to that song. If I hear on the radio I have to turn the station or if its playing at a bar or somewhere I have to leave that place.

Also when my cousin was a kid she loved Free Falling by Tom Petty. So everytime I hear that song I think of her when she used to sing that song when her and I were kids. So that brings a tear to my eye and I think of her everytime I hear that song.

Candle In The Wind-Elton John. I just think of my cousin when I hear that song and of the rest of my loved ones/friends that I have lost through the years.

Yep - these are all tear-jerkers.

Another one that hits me hard, and especially after 911, is "I'm Already There" by Lonestar. Amazed by Lonestar gets to me now, too, for personal reasons.

"Letters From Home" by John Michael Mongtomery brings a tear to my eye and the video makes me bawl like a baby.

(I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes reading some of your posts!) :crying02:

Well, the first time I heard Concrete Angel I started crying. As for the National Anthem, well, that will always have a place in my heart as do all other patriotic songs.

The national anthem....Like so many others, the sense of pride makes it overwhelming at times

Lonestar's...'I'm Already There'...(I have actually left work early to see my kids because of that song!!!)

Shedaisy's 'Come Home Soon'...(the video with all the family members of deployed soldiers just breaks my heart)

At Christmas..'Mary Did You Know'..always gets to me, especially the verse "Mary did you know that when you kissed that little baby..you kissed the face of God?"

Mercy Me's 'I can almost imagine'..a friends oldest daughter led the youth choir at our church...she had the young adults sing this song after giving a very moving personal opinion of what Heaven will be like...8 months later she died during childbirth and they played that taped testimony at her funeral while this song played in the background....(I am tearing up just writing this)

"I can only imagine what it will be like, when I walk by Your side...
I can only imagine, what my eyes will see, when Your Face is before me!
I can only imagine. I can only imagine.
Surrounded by Your Glory, what will my heart feel?
Will I dance for you, Jesus? Or in awe of You, be still?
Will I stand in Your presence, or to my knees will I fall?
Will I sing 'Hallelujah!'? Will I be able to speak at all?
I can only imagine! I can only imagine!

I can only imagine, when that day comes, when I find myself standing in the Sun!
I can only imagine, when all I will do, is forever, forever worship You!
I can only imagine! I can only imagine!

Yeah! I can only imagine!

Yeah! I can only imagine!

I can only imagine! Yeah! I can only imagine!! Only imagine!!!
I can only imagine.

I can only imagine, when all I do is forever, forever worship You!

Hadn't heard this song in years ..yea its sappy ...but I have always loved the sentiment

THE LAST GAME OF THE SEASON (A BLIND MAN IN THE BLEACHERS)
David Geddes

He's just the blind man in the bleachers
To the local home town fans
And he sits beneath the speakers
Way back in the stands
And he listens to the play by play
Just waiting for one name
He wants to hear his son get in the game

But the boy's just not a hero
He's strictly second team
Tho he runs each night for touchdowns
In his daddy's sweetest dreams
He's gonna be a star some day
Tho you might never tell
But the blind man in the bleachers knows he will

Its the last game of the season, on a Friday night at home
And no one knows the reason why the blind man didn't come
And his boy looks kinda nervous
Sometimes turns around and stares
Just as tho' he sees the old man sittin' there

The local boys are tryin' but they slowly lose their will
Another player's down and out
And he's carried from the field
At halftime in the locker room
The kid goes off alone
And no one sees him talkin' on the phone

And the game's already started
When he gets back to the team
And half the crowd can hear his coach yell
"Where the hell you been?"
"Just gettin' ready for the second half,"
Is all he'll say
"Cause now you gotta let me in to play."

And without another word, he turns and runs into the game
And through the silence on the field
Loudspeakers call his name
It'll make the local papers
How the team came from behind
When they saw him playin' out his heart to win

And when the game was over
The coach asked him to tell
What was it he was thinkin' of
That made him play so well
"Well you knew my dad was blind," he said
"Tonight he passed away"
"It's the first time that my father's seen me play"

This one always gets me.

1952 Vincent Black Lightning, by Richard Thompson

/ A - - - D - / - - - - A - / : / E - D A /
/ E - D A - / Bm - D - / - - - - A - - - /

Said Red Molly to James that's a fine motorbike
A girl could feel special on any such like
Said James to Red Molly, well my hat's off to you
It's a Vincent Black Lightning, 1952
And I've seen you at the corners and cafes it seems
Red hair and black leather, my favorite color scheme
And he pulled her on behind
And down to Box Hill they did ride

Said James to Red Molly, here's a ring for your right hand
But I'll tell you in earnest I'm a dangerous man
I've fought with the law since I was seventeen
I robbed many a man to get my Vincent machine
Now I'm 21 years, I might make 22
And I don't mind dying, but for the love of you
And if fate should break my stride
Then I'll give you my Vincent to ride

Come down, come down, Red Molly, called Sergeant McRae
For they've taken young James Adie for armed robbery
Shotgun blast hit his chest, left nothing inside
Oh, come down, Red Molly to his dying bedside
When she came to the hospital, there wasn't much left
He was running out of road, he was running out of breath
But he smiled to see her cry
And said I'll give you my Vincent to ride

Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world
Beats a 52 Vincent and a red headed girl
Now Nortons and Indians and Greeveses won't do
They don't have a soul like a Vincent 52
He reached for her hand and he slipped her the keys
He said I've got no further use for these
I see angels on Ariels in leather and chrome
Swooping down from heaven to carry me home
And he gave her one last kiss and died
And he gave her his Vincent to ride

I know, Live like you were dying always makes me think because that's exactly how my grandpa felt before he died. I always have to try to keep a straight face and not cry when I hear that song.

Just heard this one again lately..one of my ALL TIME favorites and a real heart-string tugger.

Love, Me...Collin Ray

I read a note my grandma wrote back in nineteen twenty-three.
Grandpa kept it in his coat, and he showed it once to me. He said,
"Boy, you might not understand, but a long, long time ago,
Grandma's daddy didn't like me none, but I loved your Grandma so."

We had this crazy plan to meet and run away together.
Get married in the first town we came to, and live forever.
But nailed to the tree where we were supposed to meet, instead
Of her, I found this letter, and this is what it said:

If you get there before I do, don't give up on me.
I'll meet you when my chores are through;
I don't know how long I'll be.
But I'm not gonna let you down, darling wait and see.
And between now and then, till I see you again,
I'll be loving you. Love, me.

I read those words just hours before my Grandma passed away,
In the doorway of a church where me and Grandpa stopped to pray.
I know I'd never seen him cry in all my fifteen years;
But as he said these words to her, his eyes filled up with tears.

If you get there before I do, don't give up on me.
I'll meet you when my chores are through;
I don't know how long I'll be.
But I'm not gonna let you down, darling wait and see.
And between now and then, till I see you again,
I'll be loving you. Love, me.
Between now and then, till I see you again,
I'll be loving you. Love, me.
