Ed.B. of the P-G has apparently made up his mind that it is time for Cowher to go.

Two of several interesting points in the article - Cowher's agent apparently has been calling the Steelers in some last ditch effort to work on a deal and in addition to appearing distant on the field Cowher also has not been real chatty with the front office this year. The leaks on this indicate somebody in the front office has had it with Cowher and the Steelers management is ready to move on.

If the Steelers want to hire Whiz they better move on it. After last night I think Mora will be gone and Atlanta will be very interested in hiring Whiz, who has strong Atlanta ties.

Well, if this it for the Chin, I'll have to agree. Whiz is a great coach and I can think of about 3 teams that would want to hire him. I hope that the front office can work something out with Cowher.

I'm probably Bill Cowher's biggest supporter but I think it's time for a change as well.

I just hope we know one way or the other at the end of this year whether he's going to stay long term or retire.

Thanks for the article, Dan, but I don't put any credence into anything Ed Bouchette says, especially after he specifically stated just a few weeks ago live on the KDKA sports segment of the news that from what he was hearing around the front office, Cowher and the Rooneys were talking and were close to a new contract. Now Bouchette is see-sawing the other way. I think with an issue of this magnitude, ol' Eddie had better be sure of what he is reporting/writing before he flaps his yap from now on.

Hometown Gal - I agree that Ed.B. has stated, as recently as his online chat in the P-G this past Tuesday, that he has been going back and forth on Cowher leaving.

I further agree his opinon is no more than an opinion, but what I regard as significant are the statemens attributed to managment by Ed.B. that Cowher has not seemed to be as motivated this year and today's statement that Cowher has not been communicating as much with the front office.

Seems to me someone in the front office is putting out the word that the 2006 model of Cowher Power is something the Steelers are not interested in purchasing, despite the further leak that Cowher's agent is still talking about an extension. IMHO the Rooneys are telling Cowher goodbye by sticking to their $6 million offer and telling him he cannot drop in to the office from time to time during the off season from Raleigh, which I believe to be a dealbreaker.

Personally I would love Cowher to come back. Only if he signs at least a 4 year contract extention. I dont want to have this drama next year too

One or the other (I pick the other) it has to be dealt with at end of season. It cannot be allowed to fester and become a distraction.

Agreed. I hope he does what he said he'd do and make a decision quickly after the end of the season.

Up until today, I was one of the ones saying that Cowher would probably go, and that i was happy for it. Thank you Cowher for all the years, I would welcome you back to Pitt anytime, but it is probably time now.

However, during the game today, when Holmes muffed the punt, I saw the OLD COWHER... he had a glare like that from 6 years ago!

Is it no wonder Holmes ran the ball back for a TD on the second punt? Cowher put the fear of God in him!

If THAT Cowher is back on the sidelines, I want him there for years to come!

I am concerned he supposedly will make a decision "before spring."

Waiting until other teams who have fired their coaches and already hired replacements is not the way to go.

Of course, since either Atlanta or the Giants will make the palyoffs both Coughlin and Mora will not be fired, but IMHO whichever of those teams misses the playoffs will have new HC in 2007. Fortunately, because of so many firings last season their will not be a lot of other openings - Arizona is the only sure bet I can think of. I think Fisher, Gibbs, and Parcells will be back, while Saban wants no part of the Alabama job. Marty might get the gate if the Chargers are one and out in the playoffs.

There was definitely a more emotional Cowher on the sideline today!!
Also IMHO Wix or Grimm will not be next HC, STEELERS seem to hire outside of the organization.
