View Full Version : Who`s number?

clevestinks

I was going through hundreds of Steelers football cards, because I`m making a table top for my booth. And I put 140 cards down, and epoxy over them. Turning out really cool. But anyway I was looking at cards dating back to the mid 50`s, and how over the years the numbers change , and although we dont retire any numbers, how some of the big ones never get used. Who do you associate, without even thinking, with their number? I`m sure some numbers may have a couple. I`ll start by listing some of the obvious.

70 Ernie Foster? I think you mean Ernie Stautner.

Here is another number. #39 Darren Perry. True Fast Willie wears the that 39 now. But Darren Perry was such an under-rated and very good player that when I think of 39 I still think Darren Perry.

70 Ernie Foster? I think you mean Ernie Stautner.

Here is another number. #39 Darren Perry. True Fast Willie wears the that 39 now. But Darren Perry was such an under-rated and very good player that when I think of 39 I still think Darren Perry.

There's some website that lists the alltime roster, i thnk it might be this one actually.
Yeah probably, I told ya I was really bad with names of past steelers. He was alittle before my time. Still, that's no excuse. But hey, at least I admit it.

I seem to recall a back-up QB in the late 'middling' / Noll-years who wore #11.....

I think Gary Dunn, a DL, wore #67, and a receiver in the early-'80s named Dwayne Capers wearing # 80.....

I'm sure that all the numbers are/were used at one time...

http://news6.steelers.com/article/40479/

I think what was wanted, though, was kind of a listing of jersey numbers that
we (as Steeler fans), relate to a certain number, not just any player who wore that
jersey. Correct me if I'm wrong, but, that's just how I read it.

I obviously misundersttod the topic then.....

I'd suggest Frank Lewis @ #43
