I'm confused by the by these numbers. Either I'm having a Ralph Wilson moment, or those numbers aren't what i think they are.. These are the 2007 saleries? I thought the Steelers were right up against the salary cap.?

Are the second set of numbers inclusive of signing bonus?

Edited to add, I guess these are 2006 salaries.

With the raise to $109 Million we'll have at least $20 Million+ to spend.

Is that the case, SteelCityMan786? I think these are 2006 salaries. If so, then we probably have higher salaries payable for 2007. I hope I am wrong about this. It would be great to have a little money to spend to re-up say Troy.

Found a site that projects salary cap space for the upcoming season. (as of January 3rd)

http://www.askthecommish.com/salarycap/numbers.asp

As people of noted there is plenty of potential manoevering to be done - player retirements, re-worked contracts.

Thanks, to all that posted info. Looks like we might be able to free up 10 Million or so with retirement and/or reworking contracts. Travis Kirschke is going to cost us over 2 million in cap money? Ok player, but seems like a bit much when we are tight against the cap.

:coffee: The only 2 that I see being gone next year is probably Hartings to retirement or released and maybe Porter being released or restructered. If he asks for more money, then he will be gone. He is getting up in the years and showed signs of slowing down this year and if he was gonna play over his head this year should have been the one since being he was talking this Big New Contract up all year long.:jawdrop:

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07005/751393-66.stmvery helpful indeed and worthy of a bump, while we are experiencing salary cap cuts. next year (08) looks really scary. all i know is we got a huge problem if players like kemoeatu, essex, starks, colon, philip, and okolbi arent prepared to step it up and be solid starters.

its a shame if these guys have been nothing but bench fodder, cause our current line (which didnt do much last season) is gonna eat around 25% of the cap.

doesnt count dead money and previous signing bonuses spread over time, i dont think

cutting Cedrick wilson makes no sense,

First the steelers need a WR, and hes better than average

Second, his salary is 1.9 mil which is alot for a 4th string WR BUT his cap hit includes one mil this season and one next,

so fiscally if you cut him this year, he costs more than hes getting paid in dead money

so he has to stay this season, if he doesnt improve, then next year cut his butt (and only eat 1 mil in dead money)

this dude wrote this in december, and its the best explanation of the steelers cap ive read:

http://www.steelersalarycap.com/articles/Steelers_Salary_Cap.htm

to find what the steelers needed to do to resign polamalu he broke down the entire rosters salaries, position by position. he accurately explained the cut of porter, why arron smith and pierre should be resigned, and why kirschke needs to go. some eye opening stuff:
