Out of the team:

To play like a team, have each other's backs out there.

Don't rest on your 2005 seasons and Super Bowl rings.

Out of players:

Ben Roethlisberger- Play consistantly good football.Don't try to fit it in triple coverage,it'll jsut get picked.Take the 5-yard completions instead of always taking a chance at a long-gainer in close coverage.Stay off the damn motorcycle and stay healthy.

Willie Parker- Hit the holes with conviction, don't *****-foot into them.Hit them hard and fast, stop the hesitation.Stop trying to bounce EVERYTHING to the outside, you can get a nice run up the middle.Let the holes develop,be patient isntead of trying to get to the outside so quickly.Take the 3-4 yard gainers when they are there...a 3 yard gain is better than a three yard loss when your dancing around in the backfield.

Hines Ward- Just stay healthy and be a mentor to Santonio.

Joey Porter- Back up your talk. You want the huge contract after this year, then show something. You backed it up against the Dolphins...then you kinda dissapeared for the rest of the year.

Troy Polamallu- Just keep doing what you do,you're the most dynamic player in the NFL.

Charlie Batch- Keep playing well in relief of Ben,you're a lifesaver.

Anthony Smith- Keep the hard hits a comin'...but stop showboating. It makes you look like a fool.

Ike Taylor- Reform to the 2005 Ike who earned himself the contract.Be that lock-down Top 5 CB again.Don't rest on your 2005 laurels.

Santonio Holmes- Keep working on your skills at reciever, you'll probally be the #2 guy this year, prove me right when I said that you were the best in the draft.

The coaches:

Mike Tomlin- Prove that you were the real deal.Bring the AFC North crown back home to Pittsburgh.Be decisive in your desicions, don't second-guess yourself.

Ken Anderson- Bring Ben back to being consistant.

Bruce Arians- Get us back to the running game,I don't like this pass-happy crap.Ben will get his yards and TD's...but we gotta run the damn ball!

Couldn't agree with ya more. I believe we see most of that next year.

I think Tomlin can make the secondary better seeing how his background is in the secondary.

I gotta agree there.

Seems like your asking for both things here... Here is how I see it. Willie is learning how to run at half speed in the backfield, 3/4 speed through the line, and full speed past the DB's. He needs to do this to allow the blocking schemes to develop. I saw him go NUMEROUS times through the hole in the line... even times when I thought he SHOULD try to bounce it outside. However, most of the time, the big problem was that the O line couldn't block if thier laugh depended on it.

Bruce Arians- Get us back to the running game,I don't like this pass-happy crap.Ben will get his yards and TD's...but we gotta run the damn ball!

NOPE... show me the last run-first, run-over all football team to win the SB. It doesn't and won't happen. Run first teams destroy most of the teams in the NFL... but they have no ability to come from behind and win playoff/SB games. Last year, we won because we had a very good PASS GAME. We drove, got up, and won the game. Go back and look at all the AFCCG's. Why did we lose those? Because we were a one dimensional team. When necessary, we couldn't come back and win. In this league today, we need a balanced offense. Strong pass....Strong run. Do you REALLY want to go back to 8 and 9 people in a box against us? Wanna make the run better? Develop a strong pass game. Safety's have to stay out of the box. Now, Willie only has to beat 7 people in the box. Once they cheat up a safety, through the bomb to that side, 30 yards downfield. It won't happen if we only focus on the run.

I agree with everything else... except that you have nothing to the O-line.

O-line: Please. actually block. Follow your schemes. Don't give up when you are beginning to get burned... put in the extra effort to FREE WILLY!

Solid requests. With a new HC coming in, I can see those things coming to fruition!

Ok where is the OLine? For all the what those players can do better that you mentioned. How about the Oline? They were average at best this year. The pass protection was terrible and that fact Ben was sacked over 45 times proves that. Even the run blocking wasn't there at times like in years past.

As for getting back to the run game? Kind of hard to run the ball when you're down like the Steelers were alot of times this year thanks to the turnovers.

Ken Anderson was a very savvy QB...loved his patience..... hope he helps!

I'd like to see them carry on the Steeler tradition of being a classy football team always playing with pride even if you are losing like they did this past season!!

Gotta disagree just a little here. Last year we won with the passing game, but wasn't there a year when we had Kordell throwing passes in the red zone for ints and incomps, instead of runnign Jerome? I believe I've even heard Jerome question the play calling that year.

A painful example: '97 AFCCG - 2nd and goal at Broncos 5 yard line, trailing by 10. The Bus in his prime, hitting on all cylinders, Broncos couldn't stop him - Korkie throws a pick into triple coverage in the end zone. 'Nuff said.

God what a terrible throw by Kordell. Itsn't that when Romo taunted Kordell afterward.

If you can't run the ball effectivley, you won't be able to pass effectivley.Drop everyone but the d-line in coverage and everyone's covered because you can't run the ball.

I forgot about the o-line,I was at the library and they were about to close before I could completley finish.

O-Line: F'n block!Finish your blocks, don't half-arse it!Get Willie the holes he needs to be a more-effective runner between the tackles...and for God sakes PROTECT BIG BEN!Sometimes someone gets through and gets a sack or a TFL on the back, crap happens...but last year you guys sucked, with the exception of Faneca,he kicked ass.PANCAKE THOSE MFERS!

:iagree:
I think there is gonna be a lot of gut-checkin' in the off-season...and with a new coach everybody is going to have to prove themselves all over again. There will be a new attitude in camp this summer.

1. Fans give Tomlin a little breathing room and not jump down his throught for everything.

2. A team leader like Jerome emerges.:tt02:

3. Ben proves to everyone that he really did just have a bad year (under statment) and he backs up with his actions and not his words about being the most elite QB ever to play the game!:cheer:

4. Ike proves to be a good investment after all.

5. No dumb penalties!
6. The football gods bless Heinz field with Turf.

7. See #3:cheers: :jammin:

8. No injures
9. No off field drama (see June 12, 2006 or the day that will go down in Steeler history as Black Monday!)

10. No arrests (they can avoid that by not hanging out with any Bengals!)

Whats your list!

Rothliesburgher, great post! Preach Great analysis! However, yards per carry was much better last year than the year (was it 2003?) when everything was blamed on Maddox.

What do I want to see?
Fully recovered Ben
Fortified O-line

when I first joined I thought we needed all our first day help on "D". The more I've learned, the more I realize O-line may need to be a priority too.

Overall-
To have the team chemistry back.
To not have Cowher/half of old staff leaving a distraction
Not having Porter leave be a distraction
Obviously make the playoffs and the you-know-what but won't say it for fear of jinxing us, lol.
New leadership, vocal and physically playing
Hold on to the ball
Players-

Ben Roethlisberger- Take time off, reflect on what a lucky bastard you are to be right in your head and even be alive. As your adding another notch to your "I'm a lucky bastard belt" Work on your priorities and focus on the goal. Get on the same page with WR, Throw to people who are only wearing black and gold and last names Ward, Miller, Wilson, Holmes, you get the idea. Don't feel like everything's on you, you have an entire offense.

Willie Parker- Keep up the good work and go for another record. But, don't feel like it is all up to you, trust your teammates like you have been. Watch fumbling at the 1 yard line and good luck to seeing you in a few more probowls.

Hines Ward- Don't feel like to have to be the coach this year, just be the mentor and do what you can. Help Santonio and other younger recievers and if they don't do things excactly right but they still work out, then just be happy. Stay healthy and NO MORE INJURIES! Just catch the ball and smile when you are as to annoy the opposing team. Yes, it is as enoyable for us as it is you.

O-line- First of all, I'm going to say something I've been wanting to say since last season started. PROTECT THE FREAKING QB!!!!!!!! HE WENT THROUGH HELL JUST TO PLAY AND THE LEAST YOU COULD DO IS HAVE HIM BELIEVE HE IS SAFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now that I'm done with that one, practice on blocking and be able to move with the defenders and never let them pass you. Even though Cowher isn't coaching you will still feel his wrath if you do through a guy we call the Tomlinator.

Troy Polamalu- Great job as always. We know you love to play, but if you are seriously hurt and know it, then don't be afraid to say that you rather not play. We want to have you at 95-100 percent, not somewhere in the 60th percentile. Just keep doing what you're doing and make sure you and the FS are on the same page.
P.S. If you cut your hair the entire female population of the Steeler Nation will go into code red and hold vigils untill it grows back. But don't worry, we still love you.

Anthony Smith- Hit T.J. again like that and we might give you an award. But once again, quit showboating. You look like an idiot, save it for the sidelines and for dancing with the stars. Other than that, great job and good luck.

Linebackers- Well, you all have a tough job ahead. Keep the Pittsburgh LB rep alive, that's all I'll say

D-line- Okay job, but you guys can do better. Just work alittle harder and you will do fine.

I want to see the Steelers play 4 total quarters of good, solid, smashmouth, kick-a$$ Steelers football each and every game.

Other than that, I want to see them assume the position..........as the rightful "owners" of the AFCN.
