US Airways planning Steelers-themed airplane
By The Associated Press
Thursday, February 1, 2007

US Airways is taking its support of the Pittsburgh Steelers to new heights.

The airline is partnering with the football team on a Steelers-themed jet. The aircraft, to be used on commercial flights, will be painted with the team's logo and black-and-gold colors later this year.

As part of the partnership, US Airways will sponsor some signs at Heinz Field as well as some tailgate parties before games.

US Airways, which used to use Pittsburgh International Airport as a hub, has been based in Tempe, Ariz., since merging with America West in 2005.

US Airways has similar promotional partnerships and NFL-themed planes with the Philadelphia Eagles and Arizona Cardinals, both teams in major US Airways markets.

A Carolina Panthers plane is also in the works. The airline has a hub in Charlotte, N.C.

Sweet that would be cool flying to somewhere on a Steeler Jet. On the other hand I could see myself refusing to fly on the Eagle craft. If the plane is anything like the team the words crash and burn take on a wholedifferent meaning.

If ithe plane is anything like the team the words crash and burn come to mind.lol. ironic that its the eagles that are supposed to fly and steel that falls to the earth.

Now that's a flight I'd take. But if Ben is the pilot then you might want to offer Jack Daniels too.

Just make sure he actually has a valid license and not a permit :flap:

Yes in deed a Steeler Plane would be about as cool as it would get. And it would be good to cross promote both the airline and the team. Coolsville as they would say!

Wouldn't that be cool if they scheduled it to go to all the away games?

You could book your flight months in advance!! Maybe do discounts for people flying in from other locations to get on the plane too. This could be huge. But eventually they'd have to stop making these type of planes. Fans would get upset that there are too many Steelers planes and not enough other team's planes.

Any pics of this jet???

I have not found any as of yet. I believe they are still in production. I read that they won't be out on the runways until "later this year".

Arizona's and Philly's if your interested:

Philly: http://us.airliners.net/photos/photos/3/2/0/1116023.jpg

Supposedly, the Philly plane does not permit batteries on the plane nor do they allow alcohol to be served. Although during Christmas they hire a Santa Clause to serve peanuts and non-alcoholic beverages.
