View Full Version : What Are Your Pre-Game Rituals?

A few years back, one of the Pittsburgh papers ran an article about fan superstitions and the things Steelers fans do before during and after a game. I thought it would be kind of fun, as we get ready for Monday?s game to talk about fan quirks.

My wife and I always wear our Steelers jerseys for the games. In the rare case we don?t have the jerseys on (let?s say we are visiting relatives for example), we never put the jerseys on while the game is in progress- bad luck. The jersey can never be taken off during the game, if it is taken off we lose. Once, my wife took a bath at half time and she took the jersey off. Once she got out, she put it back on. There were no plays while the jersey was off, and she put it back on. The result was a tie with the Falcons. If the Steelers lose, we wash the jerseys, to get the bad luck out. If they win, we don?t wash the jerseys. That?s right, folks, we didn?t wash them for 15 straight weeks last year (including the playoffs).

Before the opening kickoff, we light a candle that is encased in a Steelers glass. The candle has to be blown out after the first Steelers score. If it is a touchdown, the candle has to blown out before the point attempt.

Anyone else have any quirky things they do?

SteelersLive has a part of their website dedicated to the Steel Addicts, and you can see what alot of other fans just like us do for rituals. Its pretty amazing how so many others do the same things we do.

Unfortunantly I have to reff kids basketball games on sunday. Theyre in the morning and as soon as im done with them i rush to our local steeler hangout (yes, I dont have NFL ticket). No real rituals for me except I always wear the same steeler hat but i alternate which shirts I wear and what pants I wear. I also don't wear jersys because in the past it seemed that every players jersey that I bought ended up getting injured or being traded, so for me theyre bad luck.

Steeler hat, t shirt, or sweatshirt, Terrible towel in one hand autographed Lynn Swann football in the other, and my beer( no IC up here so I have to use Bud) must be in my Steeler koosie.

My friends and I wear our Steelers jerseys every game and we always watch the game at the same place.

I jsut wear Steelers gear and yell and scream and stuff.Also,I must have my Terrible Towel (which is coming to church with me to piss my friends off this year).

Wake up every sunday morning, turn on ESPN NFL countdown, watch that till 12, when the CBS pregame show is on, and then swap back n forth between the too. Then 20 minutes for the game, I get dressed in my Steelers gear, head to toe. Drink from the same glass, the same drink, same food, same plate, same silverware, in the same spot on the same couch with the same remote (we have 3), grab my TT, and its on !!! And thats just before the game!! :D

I wear my fav. steelers jersey and sit back on the couch with some mild nacho cheese some nacho and some mountain dew..... this is the year...
