On Thursday 2/15 the NFL channel at 11:00 AM PST and 2:00 EST is going to air the Steelers of the 70's take on the 49'ers of the 1980's. Now what this program is going to be about I'm not exactly sure guess you gotta watch it. Get your TIVO ready it won't be repeated. Should make for an interesting hour. :tt02:

Having watched this series of programs on ESPN back when it originally aired in 2000, I can shed some light on it for you. They took alot of old clips of games from both the '70s Steelers and '80s 49ers and digitally altered the teams they played against to make it look like the two dynasties were actually playing each other. They took alot of sound bites from Cosell to make it sound like he was in the booth calling the game along with Joe Theismann and Steve Sabol (of NFL Films). It was actually pretty fun to watch - that's about all I'll say as I don't want to throw out any spoilers for folks who haven't seen it yet.

Actually, if it's the same show as I have on DVD & VHS it is the 1978 Steelers against the 1989 49ers in what was called Dream Bowl II.

Dream Bowl II was aired in 1991 as one of the pre-game specials before the Super Bowl between the Giants and Bills.

Here's a screen shot from my VHS tape...... (I blanked out the score, in case this is the same one they're showing)

I never saw that one, but that was a different program from the Matchup of the Millenium, which originally aired in 2000. They had 2 other shows in the series being the '60s Packers vs. the '80s 49ers and the '70s Steelers vs. the '90s Cowboys as well. As the '80s 49ers and '70s Steelers won those games, they then played each other in the "final" - the 1st half was played in Candlestick Park and the 2nd half was played in Three Rivers.

I found a DVD review of the series:

The game film footage was really cool and the computer effects they used to make the teams look like they're playing each other were very well done. There were some pretty funny moments as well - one in particular I remember was the "halftime show" of the '60s Packers/'80s 49ers game - they had "Kiss" as the halftime act and showed Lombardi yelling his classic "What the hell's going on out there?!?" :chuckle:
