Steelers extended the first-round, $1.85 million tender to restricted free agent right tackle Max Starks.

Starks is expected to face competition this season. Willie Colon and possibly Trai Essex will be pushing Starks for his job in training camp.

I expect Maxi Pad to lose his starting job if not this year, definitely by the next.

I agree and I think it will happen sooner than later.
I guess this signing means that I have to put up
with him one more year on our roster.
Well, atleast I dont have to worry
about Duce this upcoming
season..

Max didnt do all that bad......remember.....it was only his second year.....and I believe the entire team was still living their superbowl last year

The entire OL sucked this past year, not just Starks. Faneca made it back to the Pro Bowl on his name alone this year.

Nah I mostly blame it on Marvel.

He played like garbage the entire season. I even have some clips to prove it.

Do you believe everything you hear from profootball talk.com? Remember that is the same sorry web site that reported Terry Bradshaws death in a car accident. Anyways, from the Steelers website:
Starks received a tender for a salary of $1.83 million in 2007, which means the Steelers have the right to match any offer he gets from another team and receive a first-round pick as compensation if they do not. St. Pierre's tender was for $850,000, which means the Steelers could match or get a fifth-round pick as compensation. If either player does not sign a long-term contract, he would become an unrestricted free agent in March 2008.

Great move by the FO. We have an opportunity to get another 1st round pick, Starks has an opportunity to play to his potential. I think it's the latter and I believe he will sieze the opportunity. IMO the whole O-line will be on their toes this year. We have some decent depth with Kemo and Colon and we will most definetly pick someone up in the draft.

Starks helped lead the Steelers to a SB just a year ago...Jesus.

I agree, but Starks has always had leverage problems, and we have developed schemes to cover his inconsistant blocking, in the form of help from other linemen and blocking backs...If Starks can reliably take on faster DE's and not stand up before contact...I have no problem with the move. The guestion is...can he be coached to anticipate and "play in space" by the new O-line coach

Of course he can...know how i know?

The Steelers are keeping him.

I think the FO and our coaching staff know talent...I trust them on this signing.

Obviously they see something in Starks we didn't see. Let's not forget. We're only fans and we don't study these players every day like the coaches and the front office.

Starks didn't play well last year, but who didn't besides Willie? The whole O-line was inconsistent and streaky at best.
