View Full Version : No Verron - now Duckett?

I know it's been reported that Colbert said they wanted to try to resign Verron. But why not just redo his deal? It's not like Verron will be in demand. From what I read Jamal Lewis who did not want to redo his deal like the Ravens wanted - he wanted to test the free agent market first before signing for low money. Verron will not be in demand. He's effective to a degree when healthy. But he's injury prone. And remember, he just got a nice new deal (for a backup) last off season. If they try to resign him I bet it's for the league minimum and he thinks he can do a little better elsewhere.

So what if this clears the roster for TJ Duckett? That would not be bad. He's a beast (from what I've seen anyway). If they keep Najeh as a 3rd down back and had Duckett as a short yardage guy...that could be a pretty solid pair of backups for Willie.

I would like to get an opportunity to see Davenport actually play RB instead of STs first. What is with folks' infatuation with Duckett?

I live about 2 hours N of Atlanta so without NFL Direct Ticket all I'd get to see of the NFC would be the Falcons. He just looks huge and runs hard. Everytime I watched them I was always impressed with him. He runs over people like The Bus did. I guess a lot of us just think the Steelers have to have a big smash mouth back. Nothing against Willie - he's the #1 guy for a very long time. But it would stir pleasant sentiments of the The Bus to see a big guy run over Ray Lewis and company! Duckett could do that.

I Definitely Do Not Agree with Najeh being used as a 3rd down back..
NO WAY!!!
Haynes is alot more valuable to our team than Davenport ever will be as a 3rd down back or power back. He is Not the Answer in my opinion...Duckett might be alright if he is willin' to be a cheap investment..

...and he might could be had for very little money - relative to the other free agent backs.

If you read the Post-Gazette latest it looks like they cut Verron for temporary salary cap relief - to get under the $109 mill by tomorrow midnight. Colbert said they hope to resign him "later in the year" ...after he recovers from his injury? The question is, later in the year will they need him. I'm sure they'll draft a back in the 3rd or later.

Same here, I don't understand it either?

I will not miss Haynes.

I heard that they will probably resign him for a smaller amount and at a much later date. Which personally, I hope they do.

Go with Draft. Najeh is there and when haynes is healthy there is a chance he can come back if we do not have suitable replacement. NO to duckett, to much..
