From a hardcore Niners fan, your organization really showed a lot of class not inserting a poison pill to Andy Lee's contract. hopefully the rest of the NFL will follow suit and the poison pill will be left for the truly despicable franchises, if not just plain banned.

Anyway, once again enjoy rooting for such a classy team.

Thanks for your comments----do you think the Niners will match and resign Lee?

That's what I was wondering. I'm guessing it's rumors or bad blood, but I'm probably wrong.

I hate the poison pill, and I feel if you use it then you also deserve to have it used against you.

business is business. if i wrote the offers, i would include them as long as they were legal. Obviously the steelers are ethical and fair, but again, if it is legal, use it as a business tool.

Let's say the Steelers wanted a restricted free agent from the browns. They're afraid that the browns would match the offer, so they put in a "poion pill" by including in the contract a provision that would pay this free agent an additional 50 million any year that he plays 6 or more games in Ohio. This is an impossible bonus to reach if he played for the Steelers, but one that he'd reach if he stayed with the browns. This would prevent the browns from matching the Steeler's offer. It's a loophole in the rules governing restricted free agents.

Caan that actually be a poison pill provision? I didn't know that! Amazing! Not Fair I guess.:tt02:

Yeah, but how would you feel if say Willie Parker became a RFA and the Ravens inserted a "poison pill" in his contract?I bet you'd be pretty pissed off.We couldn't resign our running back because he'd have to be the highest paid RB in the league if he played 4 games in Pittsburgh.

Troy will be an unrestricted free agent. The poison pill wont apply.
