Okay...first off..there is something VERY wrong with my spending so much time on mock draft sites!!!
Second...after going through 72 mock drafts..the one thing that is very apparant is that the Steelers are in an enviable position to pick the best player on the board and that the "best" player is an arbitrary thought process.

But here is the results and how many drafts picked them as going to the Steelers at #15

Jarvis Moss...12
Adam Carriker ...10
Daniel Revis...8
Lawrence Timmons...6
Leon Hall...5
Levi Brown...4
Jamaal Anderson ..3
Charles Johnson...3
Justin Blalock...3
Ryan Kalil...3
Paul Posluszney...3
Amobi Okoye...2
Quentin Moses...2
Ben Grubbs...2
Robert Meachem...1
Marcus McCauley...1
Patrick Willis...1
Laron Landry...1
Daymeon Hughes...1
Marshawn Lynch...1

That is:
DE... 16
OLB...23
CB...14
OL...11
DT...2
WR...1
ILB...1
S....1
RB...1

I don't get why so many have us picking Leon Hall, are our needs in CB that important?

i my self would like to see Carriker fall to them and hopefully snag Michael bush in the second round , i'm not sold yet on willie parker and i'm still in shock that they resigned "Dookie" Davenport, i think Bush would be a good fit and willie parker can go back to being a third down back

You're not sold on Parker? Did you even see this past season, his record game against the Clowns, ripping the Saints defense, he was even given the short yardage situations and did great in there too. Maybe Davenport still has to show more of what he's got, but Fast Willie is no third down back.

The funny thing here is I'm far from sold on Bush. The kid put up decent enough numbers, but he was in a second rate conference when he did it. I don't know that he can hang with the big boys in the NFL, especially with a big bulls eye on his leg.

An OLB/DE combo that can help us work the 3-4/4-3 hybrid scheme would be ideal for the first round.

Its really hard to figure what is going to happen due to noone truly knowing if Tomlin is planning on a move to 4-3...but if he stays in a 3-4 he may go OLB...either straight-up or with a DE convert.....Pro Football Weekly had an excellent article on Quinton Moses..and explained that his drop in production this last year was not because of a lack of effort...but rather if you looked at game film...teams were having to change their whole defensive philosophy to account for him.....that impressed the crap out of me!!!...We could probably trade down a bit and still get him ..picking up an extra draft pick in the process.

dude you got to be joking me. Willie is the future of the steelers franchise. He is defiantly proven him self to be more of a 3rd down back. I assure you that the steelers front office is not looking to replace willie in the draft they might just be looking to find a big short yardage back.

(this could work in our favor though if we really want to move down. without looking at the draft pick value chart, swaping 1sts with the giants might bring us a reversal of the trade last year. their 2nd and 4th. with our comp pick in the 4th we would have:

2 2nds
1 3rd
3 4ths

theres alot we could do with that and have plenty of leverage to maybe even move back up for an aditional late 1st or early 2nd rounder (cleveland???)

You are thinking along the same lines that I am Tony....I see soooo many players that I would like in the 2nd-4th rounds and would LOVE to have those extra picks to bring youth in to back up older players at LB...DE...and OL.

if we could land one of the 3 stud defensive lineman or even levi at 15 i would want to stand pat and do that (for future value) but after that it gets quite muddied at 15. there seems to be about 4-5 players we could easilly draft for need. if thats the case, dropping 4-5 spots shouldnt affect us at all. another potential trading partner is anyone who wants to leapfrog the packers to get the #2 rb in the draft (gotta figure if peterson slides, it wont be past houston or the bills)

many players ive seen steelerfans want to draft for need (linebackers or hybrids), i have seen falling all the way to the patriots 2nd pick in mock drafts.

Timmons is dropping fast...as is Spencer.
Brown may very well be sitting there at 15...and I agree that value may dictate taking a first round DL...and getting an OLB in the second that isnt much different (value wise) than the ones graded as 1st rounders.
Though I've gone back and forth on Moses ....I think that he may be the real deal and wouldnt be dissapointed to see him at #15..other than him...wait until 2nd round

I think your right, you never know if we will have an opportunty to trade down until it happens, but if we can trade down and still get one of our top picks and get an extra pick it sounds good to me. We sure do need young blood. Let's hope we have a solid draft and alot of keepers.

P.S. - great analysis lost-tooth.

DE... 16
OLB...23
CB...14

that makes sense, especially if the DE is a tweener

if available top choices imo:
ginn jr. wr - ohio st
amobi okoye - dt - louisville (he is only 19 years old)
leon hall cb- michigan
jarvis moss - de/lb - florida

we have no glaring needs like 80% of teams. we should take best available and not have to reach for anyone with our top 2 picks or so

well if the head coach even plans on transitioning into a 4-3 in 5 years we have a ton of glaring needs. we cant put this off til next year or the year after. it all begins in 2 months. i could see the okoye or moss pick but not the other 2.

maybe not necasarily Leon Hall but I think that DB should be very high on our needs list and if something happens that the best DB in the draft is still available then I think that we should nab him... Now, who is that ? I m not certain... maybe the guy from Pitt.

I've got my personal favorites. But at this point,....ive got a hunch that we have got a real shot at Arkansas DE Jamaal Anderson The kid is monstrous with with a ton of upside.
Perhaps Coach Tomlin is thinking the same thing. (As he was present at Arkansas's Pro day)
Or perhaps he was scouting Chris Houston ? But then again wouldn't he have seen all that he needed to from him (Houston) at the combine ? Hmmmmm,......interesting.
Whatever the case,....i'm good as long as we don't clusterfook the pick with Moss, Moses or Spencer. LOL

With all due respect, haven't we invested alot in young (hopefully up and coming) CB's. If we pick a strong DE/LB or both early, might that not take a little pressure of the CB position? We definitely need to infuse our D w/ some talented young blood, but I hope we don't spend all of our early picks on D.
