Steelers re-sign defensive back Chidi Iwuoma

The Steelers have re-signed defensive back Chidi Iwuoma to a one-year contract.

Iwuoma, 29, has been a key special teams player since joining the Steelers in 2002. The team released him just before the start of last season during a roster shuffle caused by Ben Roethlisberger's emergency appendectomy but re-signed Iwuoma in December.

He played in two games for the Steelers before his season ended because of a dislocated wrist.

That's good news. I like him on special teams. Of course, this doesn't meam they won't release and resign him a few more times during the season.

I think he will make the roster and not be cut anymore do to the new coach. I really like it when he is out there on STs. He makes a difference for one guy. And is a good leader out there on STs.

Chidi's journey over the last season and a bit has been amazing - especially for a journeyman ST player.

He must have been to three NFL teams (including the Patriots) in the short time between being released by the Steelers and then being reisgned.

Plus, doesn't Tomlin use starters on ST?

Yes he does. Iwuoma, Navenport, Holmes, Reid(if he stays healthy), and much more that sound great for the job. Our ST are going to be great this year, or at least better than last.

Duke, someone told me that 1st teams on ST crushes but increases chances of 1st team injuries. Thus it is a double edged sword...gamble/crap shoot. I am willing to trust Tomlin and see what he does. As you said, I think it would only improve our ST.

I just hope injuries don't come to Davenport, he's been through many injuries before, and being on ST will only improve those chances.

I will miss Morey.

I was one of few who liked him. (though most were just bitter over him staying over quincy)

Chidi is equally good. I like him too.

I like having Chidi as a ST specialist....i hated how morey was kept....while Morgan was cut inspite of our lack of depth at WR....
then during portions of last season i had to watch morey attempt to play the WR position in the NFL.....WOW....AWFUL...
then the steelers have to resort to guys like lee mays and walter young...YIKES

Welcome back Chidi!!!!!!!!
