Lions trying to strike up deal
No. 2 pick on block, but sources say Broncos balked at asking price

Knowing several NFL teams are collectively drooling over the talents of receiver Calvin Johnson, the Detroit Lions have let it be known their No. 2 overall draft pick is up for trade.
Yes, the Lions have held preliminary discussions with the Broncos regarding the No. 2 pick the past month, NFL sources confirmed.
But no, Broncos fans shouldn't get their hopes up.
According to sources, the Lions asked for multiple draft picks that included Denver's No. 21 selection. The Broncos considered the asking price far too high and trade discussions have ceased.
While a Denver deal with Detroit appears unlikely, the Broncos have been trying to deal their No. 21 pick. Some of the Broncos' trade possibilities have them moving up on the draft board; others have them moving down.

The Detroit Lions will never be that smart with Millen in charge. That man has ruined the Lions.

Totally agree there. They might not be a great franchise, but Millen has taken them to a new low.

I am surprised Millen isn't drooling over Calvin Johnson.

Agreed, the Lions will never be smart or competant unless idiot Millen is out of a job.

This was the same team that wasted a golden opportunity to build a championship team around an outstanding RB in Barry Sanders.

I think millen knows johnson is the best guy in this years draft. But he's probably worried about getting killed for drafting johnson

denver, like the pats, never make a trade unless they are clearly raping a team. unlike the steelers who are usually willing to give up a little more to consumate a deal.

detroit is smart and this is why. they know they can swap spots with the bucs and still get who they will chose with the #2 pick. if detroit moves down to #4 they still get their choice of joe thomas or brady quin PLUS they can probably pick up a 2nd or 3rd rounder from tampa bay. all this talk with denver is posturing.

This is smart...if a trade is done right (See: Herschel Walker, whom the Cowboys ended up getting Emmitt Smith, Russell Maryland, Kevin Smith and Darren Woodson for), Detroit could get a ton of value.

But they'll f##k it all up again.
