NEVILLE ISLAND, Pa. -- Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger hosted a minicamp for youngsters on Saturday at the Robert Morris Island Sports Center.

Thirty-three children won an essay contest on the benefits of hard work to get the chance to meet Big Ben, and even catch some passes from the Steelers star quarterback.

They also took part in sprints and a football field obstacle course.

Big Ben told Channel 11, "It's an opportunity to come out here and share some knowledge, some wisdom and some fun with these kids and share the game of football."

Roethlisberger also talked a little bit about the coaching change this year.

He didn't say much about Coach Bill Cowher's departure. But he is getting acquainted with new head coach Mike Tomlin.

Ben said, "Yeah, I've talked to him many times. I've been working out in there and had dinner with him and so we've been able to it down and talk about a lot of things."

This offseason has been pretty relaxed for Big Ben.

He followed his alma-mater, Miami of Ohio, during the team's run in the NCAA Tournament. Miami lost to Oregon by two points in the first round.

About his offseason, he also told Channel 11, "I've done a lot of traveling, golfing, watched my sister play basketball. A little bit of appearances like this with Sprint and football camps."

Roethlisberger now says his focus is on the upcoming season.

Yep...

This sounds like the PERFECT offseason for him. Rest, relax, have some fun, let the body heal, then work out and focus on the season.

I just gotta feeling... we will be seeing the Ben of 04 and 05.

Yes Ben, please avoid doing any of this wasteful community work with kids, because I am sure it will inhibit your ability to have a better season next year. :wink02:

I do know what you are saying, tony. It would warm my heart to see Ben working out with his receivers, as well. Just don't think this has much to do with that.

$200? Isn't that double the normal amount? Is that the Super Monopoly amount for millionaire athletes? :tt02:

Ok, so I guess 200 is the normal amount. It's been a long time since I've played Monopoly. I wonder how long it takes Santonio to earn $200.

It was confirmed he was sacked only 3 times, suffered no severe head injuries and rode home at a safe speed on his moped at the end of the mini-camp.

Rumor had it max was pulled from the game early in the fourth after eating a horse, falling asleep, and being knocked unconscious by his 4 foot tall, 118 lb adversary. Oh, and hitting 400 lbs......again.

400 lbs? Christ, what a tub - no wonder people blow by him, he's too damned fat to move.
