If your talking 2k5 then yeah. That was the last great football game. EA put a stop to that when they bought the NFL rights. I just can't get over the AI and overall lackluster game EA puts out year after year with updated rosters. I don't think you understand that when EA buys up other games that compete with them the only people that suffer is the Football Fan.

Oh one more thing. If the backbreaker game I was talking about earlier can make a game that is leaps and bounds above Maddens, then why doesn't Madden go out and use the same game engine?

You should still rent Backbreaker when it comes out. People on the Backbreaker forum are talking about making NFL teams and rosters you can download and put in the game.

hmm....I should really consider this game, I already decided I wont buy 09, and before 08 the last I had was 05, they really do get repetitive

No prob. The cool thing with the general public making the rosters is EA can't do anything about it.

Figures. I was teetering on which to get, but I was already familiar with the 2k series. What's better about it?

well if u got a 360 then ur only choice is 2k. 2k is made for xbox and the show is playstation 2 and 3. i like 2k its takes some time to get use to it. if ur gonna use the new pitching then make sure u read the pitching turtorial inside the game i was giving up hits left and right to high A Vero Beach until i read it and then once u get the hang of it is pretty fun and realistic. im in the middle of a franchise with the pirates and im 7-6.

but yea before i got my xbox i had PS2 and i loved the show's career mode it was so fun working ur playing through the minors and only having to play as yourself

lilyoder6
03-14-2008, 11:26 AM
thats the reason the show is the best one b/c u have the career mode which is ballin.. and the graphics and gameplay on the ps3 are sick.. it's always fun to make urself and be assigned to a team and work ur way thru the ranking to get to the pro's...

The last roster update for Madden 08 is out for the 360 and PS3. This update removes all players from the IR and somewhat surprisingly does include transactions made plus ratings and weapons changes. The Super Bowl was obviously taken into account with the Giants receiving a bunch of significant upgrades.

In a year that EA has been highly criticized one area where they excelled was with the roster updates. Going into 08 the goal was to do them on a weekly or bi-weekly basis after having never had any real consistency in previous years. While it wasn’t quite done at that pace (bad gap between November 12th and January 14th) it still represented a huge improvement. It was also nice to have all the changes communicated instead of just wondering or digging through players trying to figure out who had moved. Hopefully it gets even more frequent next year and other EA Sports games follow their lead in this area.

The only way I would purchase Madden would be if they updated their gameplay. I've got to the point where it's not about the "players" its about the experience. I know all most people care about is playing with the Steelers and other real teams. From what I've seen EA cares only about deadlines and nothing about putting out solid games.

Nah sorry. I think they will only be on 360 and PS3. It will be a new game after all.

you can't really say madden is better if backbreaker isn't even out yet

I like madden, but it does get repetitive, and every year the new one is almost the same but with a roster update. it's like paying 50+ dollars for a roster update. that's not good for people low on money, when we could spend that in a game that actually looks different and promising

I'm the same as him. It's not about the money it's about a quality game. EA has shown they have no intentions of using new engines in their games. Same old crap game play with new "weapons"(which are gay as hell) just to make it seem different. Same old boring ass tackles every time you hit a guy with the "hit stick". No thanks EA you can keep your recycled Madden game.

It's nothing like real football. When in a real game do you see a QB run back 20 yards and throw the football accurately down the field 40+ yards on the run? When in a real game do you see WR's jump 6 feet off the ground to make a catch? You don't!! Thats what I'm trying to tell you. If you buy Madden solely for "real players" and updated rosters then your just wasting your 50+ dollars.

Thats because they have no competitors. It's like I said they buy every other game that competes with them up. They have a monopoly. They bought the NFL license because they knew most people don't care if they put out the same game every year as long as they can play with licensed NFL teams and players.

They didn't give up. EA bought the NFL license. Look at what EA did like this....When you go into the store and you see a product with a "Name Brand" on it. You 9 times out of 10 buy the name brand because your familiar with it. Yet the generic brand is probably just as good as the name brand or better. Yet you still buy the "name brand" product. It's the same as whats going on here. You see REAL NFL teams and assume just because its got the brand name on it, it's going to be the best out there.

i think 08 is awesome, graphics big step, gameplay (tackles and such) are great, i love the game just take out maddens commentary!

Did you see the game "Star Wars-the force unleashed" yet? The game engine in that game is the same engine their applying to Backbreaker. Watch this video of how they used these engines to make the force unleashed.

4mBcS8vQL2Y

....as you seen the players have a biomechanical system. The characters in the game react as a real person would to a given situation. This tech is leaps and bounds above what Madden uses because none of the movements are pre-determined. Now tell me that wouldn't kick ass in a football game.

Wow thats tight! See the thing is it would be kick ass in madden but it isnt in madden, if it was yea but mabey they are working on it or obviously its not it there so its somethign that they did not want to do immediately we cant do anything about it. I really am not sure why they havent added something like this though, you never know what will come in 09.

They haven't added it because EA doesn't care about gameplay just deadlines. This stuff has been out for 2 years now. Madden didn't want to use this tech because they would have to overhaul the whole game. The company that is making Backbreaker are football fans like us. They have seen people complaining about EA and how crappy Madden is so they are doing something about it. You wanna know how much these guys care about putting out a solid game.. Every month they ask the consumers what they want to see in a football game and try to implement what they can into the game. When did Madden/EA ever ask the consumers for input?

I would definitly buy this backbreaker game, it sounds great the gameplay is amazing, the tackles OMG but the thing is its not nfl players and it cant be Madden has all the rights. If this wasnt so i would go buy backbreaker and madden this year and compare the two. But until i can play with nfl teams on backbreaker i wont be getting it.

What? You're looking in the wrong place. IGN just did a interview with the developers at the end of Feb. and there doing another one at the end of March. Also I said earlier that the members of the forum are going to make all the NFL teams and players so you can download them and put them in the game. The NFL license is exclusive to the developers of EA/Madden but nothing can stop the average man from making the teams and players for themselves.

I wouldn't count on it. I was reading an article on IGN and they asked EA if the heard of Backbreaker, they said yes. Then IGN asked them if they(EA)were planing on using the same engines as Backbreaker. EA said they thought their engines were just as good and they saw no reason to switch over. You wanna talk about not giving a sh@t. How can you as a game developer not see the enormous potential of these game engines? EA has burned one too many bridges in my book. Year after year they put out the same game as the last because they know they have the market by the balls. Not to sound like an ass to you Bettis, but you and other Madden Fanboys aren't helping the matter either by purchasing the same game you did last year for 60 bones.

IGN: Right. Well, today we're obviously talking heavily about exclusivity and deals and whatnot. With Backbreaker showing -- I take it you're familiar with Backbraeker a little bit?

Moore: Oh yea.

IGN: Well they seem to be pushing technology forward a little bit, I don't want to say more so than Madden has, but they're hoping to reinvent the way football is played on consoles and they're doing this through new technology. I'm sure you're away of the new technology they're putting into it. Any aspirations of one day signing that technology to use in Madden or looking elsewhere for new technology ideas?

Moore: Yeah, I mean one thing we are working on -- again, no announcements here -- but I can tell you that we continue to look at physics engines and we're still not quite in the world of football videogames in true physics with regard to a player hitting a certain player at a certain angle and a certain speed and what have you, I think we're very good...

Why the hell wouldn't you be "in the world of football videogames in true physics"? This is why I hate EA. No forward thinking in their approach. Now do you see where I'm coming from?

The official website (http://www.easports.com/madden09/) for Madden 09 went live earlier today following the announcement that the 20th Anniversary Collectors Edition would include NFL Head Coach 09. From the main page of the site you can access the press release containing details of the collectors edition along with links to new Head Coach videos and features. It also notes that “the countdown begins 4/5/08″. Whether that countdown will lead into the NFL Draft or something else (cover announcement?) isn’t immediately clear.

If you play Madden in Franchise mode, pick up WR Hank Baskett from the Eagles or in FA (after 2 years). He impressed me in real life so I figured I'd have him replace Ced Wilson. This dude catches EVERYTHING..., most times with one hand. Nates days at the 3 spot are numbered.

I fired up a game of 08 on the 360 the other day for the first time in a while and was just underwhelmed...I turned it off after a few quarters. Does Madden really suck that bad now? I remember being addicted to the mid 90's Madden games but the last one that kept my interest was ESPN NFL 2k5. Madden just doesn't give me that euphoric football feeling. NCAA is much better...

I don't think it's Madden. It's a sports game and there's only so much you can do. The variety can only be found in playing other people rather than the computer all the time. I mix it up with super star, franchise and on-line. I seem to get more fun out of building a team than playing the games (although, I'm usually not the Steelers when I do this because I can't seem to release anyone).

I was always an NCAA fan... last Madden was 05 I think and I havent bought NCAA for a few years. I used to get the rosters for NCAA online.

These games for some reason just got too technical for me. As much as I love the sim stuff, they just were not much fun for me anymore.

I tell a lie... I'm a nerd and I used to create the USFL for Madden!

Don't worry about it. Through my obsession with the SB XXX loss, I would take the time to name every player on the 1995 Steelers and the 1995 Cowboys just so I could kick the crap out of Dallas in the rematch. Sometimes I'd even sim the whole season for both teams so the whoopin' would be in the SB. :sofunny:

What kind of receiver did he come out as (hands, route runner, great catch or possession)? I tend to be anal about assigning the correct number.

possession. that's what he is as far as I know, that's why i didn't give him elite speed but gave him good hands
