The steelers have the symbol on only one side because they use to have no symbol at all, when they first started to new symbol they put it on one side of the helmet to see if fans liked it with, or without. Since that point it has stayed on only one side.

Thats a good link Mike !!!

The Steelers are deep believers in tradition and always will be. A main reason it took so long for the Steelers to revamp their uniforms several years ago..allbeit a subtle revamp. and a main reason why they dont wear their 3rd uniform. The believe in history and tradition. It's just another reason why the Steelers are regarded and respected around the league

Steelers uniforms rock, the onesided logo is unique. Living in cleveland they dont have a logo or anything, just an orange helmet with a crap stripe down the middle

I must say that when the retro stuff comes out that I like the yellow helmet with logo on it with the Pittsburgh seal jerseys(balck/gold prison stripes) The old dullish yellow and brown ones aren't that great. Too much like Green Bay's light bulb outfits.

I remember when it was big news when we changed our number style from the old block type of the 70's to the more streamlined numbers today. Radical design team in PIT we have.

New Steeler fan here... what year did the Steelers go to the new number font from the traditional collegiate block style? My research says 1999 but that's my best guess. Anyone know the year? Thanks for the help!

I've tried to find it, but no official documentation yet...I would say earlier like around 95,96,97. Kordell was a runway model for it I think.(no remarks about this unintended pun, please)

I'm pretty sure the Steelers started using the new font starting with the 97 season.

Wow this must be the season for digging up retro threads.

And a bizarre request from the person who revived it.
