does anybody know what the steelers are doing for their 75th anniversary? specifically with the uniforms? i see that the eagles are wearing patches all season as well as a throwback jersey night. http://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/homeNewsDetail.jsp?id=67623

i hate the eagles, but it would be cool to sport throwback uniforms for our 75th anniversary game vs the ravens on espn.

To my understanding we will be celebrating it against the Ravens on Monday night Nov 5th.
There is also this article about the draft party at Heinz Field, it mentions that they will have 75th anniversary merch for sale. I hope that they put the stuff on the website as well.
I am hoping the we a throwback jersey for the Ravens game as well.

I've seen our throwback jerseys. They are ugly. Unless they are just going back to the block numbers, they should let those old throwbacks get thrown back.

I liked the ones they used about 10 or 12 years ago.

Are they the all yellow ones with the black vertical lines on them they used in the 75th anniversary nfl season?

They could go back to the Golden Triangle days with the Gold Helmets....

The Steelers are having a Press Conference Tommorrow (Friday) to let all us Fans know of everything planned for the 75TH Anniversary of the STEEELERS. Not sure of the time. They then will release all the product thats going to be available to purchase. Figure they will be covering all that is scheduled as well as uniform changes for it. Just figured all would want to know!

One request to the Rooney Family. No more concerts inside the stadium. That is played out and drains the energy from the building.

Hopefully future concerts will be held in the amphitheatre the Rooney's plan on building near Heinz Field. Not exactly sure when that's going to be completed.

Yup, that's them. I think I am the only person that liked them but I still want one.
I could also go with the triangle. I think that was the mid to late 60s. They also had gold helmets too I think. Gold helmets would be awesome.

Hmm well according to Mike Bires of the Beaver County Times :

Invitations to the press conference came on postcard featuring a photograph of a gold helmet, which the Steelers wore for a time in the 1950s and early '60s.

I could go with it for a game. Although I really hope they do a throw back jersey this year too. I would actually buy one. Depending on how ugly they are. If I was a Chargers fan i would own a baby blue jersey just cuz I think they are sweet looking. But I would probably buy a Golden Triangle Jersey. Then again anything would be better then the gawdawful Iggles throw backs..

Here is a link to the Southern Steel Fan Club. On their site they have a list of all the uniforms ever worn by the Steelers.

http://www.southernsteelfanclub.com/uniform.html

I would hope to see the uniform from 1962 (The all black uni with gold numbers and gold arm stripes and the Gold Helmt, the first year they put the Steel logo on.) Or from 1963 ( The white unis with the golden triangle on the sleeve with all black helmet).

Anyone of those from the 60's would be cool, IMO.

I really don't mind our throwbacks. I don't find them to be too hideous. Hopefully the gold helmets will blind the Ravens.

The Eagles throwbacks...now those are hideous.

But the mascot -- yuck. It could have been worse, but did we really need him?

What I clearly don't understand is why people whine and complain about mascots or cheerleaders. Is your life that miserable you have to complain about miniscule things like this? I love the mascot idea and am glad they are doing it, and I also think cheerleaders in black and gold would be sexy. I don't see what the negativity around these things is what it is. Get over it, it doesn't hurt a damn thing.

OK...the mascot I don't have a problem with, but as far as cheerleaders (and I use the word loosely), let's be real...they are just there for the eye-candy factor. They do NOTHING to get the crowd into the game. And as far as I can tell, the crowds at Heinz Field (and the fans at the away games) don't need any help in that regard.

And may I ask, is your life so miserable that you do around fault-finding other peoples' opinions. I think you need to get over yourself.

Well, MOS, you went there first, I just went along for the ride. And yes you're right, in the grand scheme of things the Steelers getting exotic dancers-er, I mean, cheerleaders-is not a high priority. But many fans on this board and others that I've seen are on record that they feel they are not wanted or needed. If you have a problem with that, that's on you, bro'.

Is anyone here going to the Fan Blitz this weekend? I'm making the trek up from Virginia for it.

Any tips or suggestions? Due to my work travel and time overseas, I'm sorry to say this will be my first visit to Heinz Field. I'm an old Three Rivers guy!

Cheers,

I personally don't mind the mascot. I was shocked at first, But unlike some, I'm going to give him a chance. He might grow on us. He's starting to grow on me already. Those who hate him are probably old, conservative Steeler fans from the old days who hate 'Modern' frills. A Mascot doesn't automatically mean frilly.

As for cheerleaders, the Steelers already have them. Female Steeler fans.

Jerseys yea, Mascot nea.

C mon we're the freakin Pittsburgh Steelers, we don't need any gimmicks such as mascots. Not saying I don't like the jerseys because I do and I am glad the Steeler organization is celebrating this because our 75th anniversary should be celebrated but mascots, no way we need that.

I have a question though regarding the jerseys, will they wear them only one night or for the year?

They will wear them against the Bills and the Ravens game this year.

And once again, the mascot is cool. This is the year 2007, time to change. I see absolutely nothing wrong with the mascot, is it really going to affect you that much? Is it going to bother you like nothing ever has before? Have fun with it for gobs sake, don't be so negative.

I'm not trying to be negative and you never know I end up might liking it. I just think that the new mascot isn't what the Steelers are all about.........tradition. It won't bother me at all I just disagree with the decision.

what does a "steelworker" have to do with pittsburgh or "tradition" anyways? everybody knows all steel comes from china. why couldnt we get a cool chicken like the Padres?

i pride myself of being more of a fan cause i dont "need" cheerleaders or a mascot, and with this latest development, i think i may just boycott the steelers (and Iron City Beer) altogether.

Admittedly it is a minor issue, but apparently Ben was supposed to show up to model the 75h anniversary uni with Hines but blew off the appearance

Pro Bowl receiver Hines Ward, who modeled the uniform alone (quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had "a prior engagement," he said),

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07118/781770-66.stm

Sounds like Hines decided to put out the word Ben was a no show, which may be Hines taking a subtle shot at Ben.

It is the offseason and Ben can do what he pleases, but when the Steelers do this kind of PR it might not hurt the self-proclaimed team leader and face of the franchise to show up for an apparance if asked.

I really like the uniform. The classic "Bobby Layne/ John Henry Johnson" look. The other throwback experiment from the mid 90s was pretty nasty looking, if you recall. I'd even go for the old V-shape shoulders from circa 1968.
As for the mascot, well.....
it could be worse.
remember the "Terrible Fan"?
