Sources: Earnhardt Jr. to drive for Hendrick in '08

Dale Earnhardt Jr. on Wednesday will announce his intent to move to Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet in 2008, multiple sources with intimate knowledge of the negotiations told ESPN.com Tuesday on condition of anonymity

Hendrick Motorsports declined comment, and e-mails and calls sent to Earnhardt's representation were not returned. A news conference was scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday to officially announce the deal.

Not that I'm a huge or even a slight NASCAR fan but it would be funny now if he won 5-6 cups in a row.

A couple things occur to me. First, the Hendrick haters are going to have to hate themselves and throw beer cans at themselves if Junior wins, and the Jr. apologists got what they wanted. Now that they can't use equipment as an excuse, Jr. better start winning 7-8 races a year and winning championships.

Maybe he should try to win a race first before you crown his ass.:sofunny:

:sofunny: denny green?

nothing would please me more to se jr. stealing wins away from jj and gordo. im sure he will take a hit to his "cool" image by joining the "team of geeks", and the majority his fans (especially those who were also his fathers fans) are gonna hate having to root for hendrick.

but i respect jr. for not caring about any of that. its not about the money, especially if hes leaving bud (although bud left hendrick to sponsor jr in the 1st place). its not about the fans or what people think. its strictly about winning. and he knows probably better than anyone if jimmie freaking johnson can win a cup, he can win several.

i wonder if they will be giving jr any of jimmie or jeffies race winning cars from this year like they did to usher in jj? i doubt it.

i wonder if dale sr. is rolling over in his grave?

so where does that leave kyle busch? my 1st thought is teaming up with his brother as the 3rd ride with team penske. i dont think the sam hornish jr. experiment is gonna work out.

i dont like nascar all that much but whats gonna happen is without him dei is gonna fall apart so when it does he will buy it and go back to them when he is done with hendrick and restore its name

and just as a side note his step mom is a jackass it was his dad so one of the kids should get it

thats what i think anyways

Rumor: Kyle wants out of his contract and is heading to the MWR #44 later this year.

My made-up rumor:

Kyle Busch goes to the DEI #8 Bud car next year ...........Jr. fans fainting left and right, die-casts littering the track (since they can't throw beers at teammate Gordon anymore):sofunny:

I think Sr. would be alright with this move. He would go to a team that gave him the best chance to win. In his day it was RCR now lets face it. Its Hendricks Motorsports. They are dominating the COT races and Gordon is so far out front in points its sickening. I have Jimmy Johnson with a passion but will admit he is a good racer. All in all I think he made the right choice. That is one powerful stable of drivers...Gordon, JJ, and Little E all in one garage...man that is going to be fun to watch.

Kyle Busch is going to Ginn Racing. Since Ginn Racing is a subsidary of Hendricks they will be using the Hendricks motors that he is running now. So he can continue to suck with the same motor and new owner.

Now, I am a very big fan of Dale Jr. and now that he has officially announed that he will be leaving DEI. I think that it will be a big plus for him, I just hate to see him not in a DEI car. I Loved Dale Sr. more than any other sports figure ever in any sport. I only have 1 tatoo and it is a Big #3 with Elvis written under it. I was just wondering if anyone else has any feelings about Dale Jr. or anyone even cares... And also, tell me what number you would love to see Dale Jr. driving next year... Have fun and God Bless You All

Per press conference....5 year contract

Dancing around the car number, sponsor issues. More months of speculation there.
Hendrick did say he'd be open to discussing swapping the # 5 for the # 8 car. Jr didn't mention Bud once.

Rick Hendrick played nice when it came to the question of Kyle Busch, saying that his contract was up so he would not be back with Hendrick after this year....Kyle could go anywhere.

i heard that budweiser announced right after jr said he was leaving dei that they would follow him

i think budweiser would follow jr. off the edge of the earth. im willing to bet jr. can push more beer than cornflakes anyways. ups was determined not to lose the commodity they built up with dale jarrett and i think bud knows to do the same.

ironically bud left the hendrick sponsorship of the 25 car to chase after jr w/ dei in the 1st place. i do think kelloggs stays with the 5. i think jr. may get casey mears crew though, with darrian grubb. like marty smith was saying, budweiser will make team hendrick an even richer organization.

I still think it's hilarious that Jr fans will now be scrambling to kiss Hendrick's butt.

Git yur new Jr shirt here...

I have a t-shirt with an earnhardt number 3 on it, with a circle around it and a line through it (like the ghostbusters symbol). Underneath it says "I'M NOT INTIMIDATED."

I don't necessarily dislike Nascar, but as VASTEELER said, who cares.

Nascar fans here must be as scarce as christian chatters...

I'd like to see him race the 3 or even 33. Not much of a NASCAR fan but his own step-mother did him in and now he's got a chance to prove himself. I'd like to see him win 5-6 championships in a row.

I heard Tony Eury JR was basically told he's on his own...meanwhile...

This just in: NASCAR has announced that this week's race, at Michigan, has been renamed the "Jr. Decides Where He's Going To Race Next Year 400".

i...can't...wait.......TNT sucks

His daddy would be very proud of him. Although Jr's fans hate Gordon and think Dale Sr. hated him as well, that just shows their ignorance. They were rivals on the track, but had great respect for each other off the track, and Gordon often mentions how much Earnhardt taught him on and off the track. It's clear they had a mentor/protege relationship. I'm also not exactly sure how Jr. fans overlooked the fact that Earnhardt, Gordon and Johnson are all friends off the track. Marty Smith was on Romes show today, and said the reasons Jr. went to Hendrick were 1) Rick Hendrick is like a father figure for him 2) Hendrick gives him the best chance to win.

Great post, revefsreleets. I adore Jr. but I have always been a huge fan of both Gordon and JJ. I am happy that he is going to join the Hendricks team and you are right on the money with your post above. Hendricks is a force to be reckoned with now - it's going to be a ball buster of a team next year. :jammin:
