Steelers claim linebacker off waivers, release safety
Monday, July 30, 2007

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The Steelers continued their training camp roster moves this afternoon, releasing first-year safety Harrison Smith and claiming linebacker Marquis Cooper off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks.

Cooper, a four-year veteran who has recorded 28 tackles in 30 games, signed with the Steelers Oct. 31, 2006, played in two games and was inactive for a third before being released on Nov. 25. He played two seasons, 2004 and 2005, with Tampa Bay, making a career-high 18 tackles in 2005, and in four games last season with Seattle.

Smith signed with the Steelers as a free agent on Jan. 12, 2007. He began his pro career with the Detroit Lions in 2006 as an undrafted rookie free agent out of California, but was released prior to the regular season. He signed as a free agent with the Steelers on Jan. 12.

Does anyone know if Arnold Harrison is still recooperating from his knee injury or has he been practicing. If he is stilled laid up our LB corp is getting dangerously depleted.

He's healthy, in camp and practicing.

No problem. Yeah, last I saw he got toasted by Heath Miller over the middle. Heath out-jumped Harrison and made one hell of a catch.

I didnt think that A. Harrison played too bad when he replaced Pezzy last year but do you think he may have lost a step from the torn ligaments?

Possibly. I hope it has more to do with Heath and Ben clicking. Miller just made one hell of a catch. For the most part, once again from what I saw on Friday, Harrison did a decent job overall of drop and cover.

Yeah I'm glad to hear Ben and Heath are clicking. I really want to see the two of them hook up alot this season.

You and me both brother. I'm not all that crazy with our WR core to begin with (after Hines and a young Holmes), so I say give Ben all the options available. Ben rolling out and dumping one off to a wide open Heath Miller more often would make me a happy camper this year.
