I keep hearing Bengal Fans talking about their "High Octane Offense"...and how they are ready to take the "next step" this upcoming season. Well, lets look at some revealing stats...the TRUTH is that the Bengals are deficient in SEVERAL areas.
The thing that is truly amazing is that when you compare their stats to ours...You have to shake your head at some of the sportwriters who act like they are an up-and-coming team.
Our stats are better than theirs in most areas...yet pungents unable or unwilling to do their homework overrate the Bungals and talk about us possibly going 7-9.
SOOOO....here are the stats and my prediction BASED on those stats: We will make it to the playoffs this year and the Bengals will disappoint and reclaim their basement room in the celler of the League.

Their Total offense was ranked BEHIND the Steelers...and their running game was ranked #26....Their defense was ranked #30 overall..with a pass defense ranked #31. Their Punt return was ranked #29....Their Kickoff return ranked #29....third down conversion rate was ranked #25

What this shows me is with:
A) an anemic running game
B) a poor third down conversion
C) an awful defense
D) poor special teams....

the Bengals have NO CHANCE to be more than..well....the Bengals. Keep in mind, this is all in the year when the Bengals were considered better than they have been for years.

Now take into consideration that the Bengals will possibly start this season without a legit third reciever...an offensive line that has lost their best lineman....An aging D-line... three LB's that have never played together....a secondary with a very poor strong safety and two CB's with a comined ONE year experience....

There are the facts...YOU do the math.

!00% valid points, LLT. I just love watching the fans go up and down, throwing away their jerseys and then digging them out of the garbage every other week.

Try living in Cinci and convinvcing a Bung fan of any of that. The glare off Carson Palmers Heisman Trophy has them blinded to what the rest of the team looks like. They just look at you and say "Is Ben still riding a motorcycle?"

Their Total offense was ranked BEHIND the Steelers...

The Bengals were one spot behind the Steelers in yards per game, however, Cincinnati was 8th in points per game, while Pittsburgh was 12th.

and their running game was ranked #26
Yes, our running game was disappointing. Rudi averaged only 3.8 yards per carry. I attribute most of this to the inability of our O-line to stay healthy last season. And hopefully Kenny Irons will give the running game a nice change of pace.

....Their defense was ranked #30 overall..with a pass defense ranked #31
Yep, our defense sucked. Especially our pass defense. A lot of this was because of Tory James being so slow and Deltha either being injured or just not caring (not completely sure which it was). Johnathan Joseph played very well as a rookie and I think Leon Hall was the best cornerback coming out of the draft and will, at the very least, push Deltha for his job. A healthy Madieu Williams could make a world of difference. Dexter Jackson is still a bit of a question mark, he's a heady player but he's getting older and slowing down a bit.

Their Punt return was ranked #29
Yeah, Ratliff sucks at returning punts, but he never loses the ball. I'm hoping either Antonio Chatman or Skyler Green will take over this role this season as they're more game-breaking threats.

...Their Kickoff return ranked #29
Yeah, it would've been much better had Tab Perry not gotten knocked out for the season, he's a very good kick returner.

....third down conversion rate was ranked #25
Attribute this to the running game...it's hard to convert third downs when it's 3rd and 8, 3rd and 9, 3rd and 10.

What this shows me is with:
D) poor special teams....
Hey now, special teams is a lot more than kick returns. The Bengals ranked #1 in punt return coverage and #7 in kick return coverage last season. Kyle Larson was the #9 ranked punter in terms of average.

Now take into consideration that the Bengals will possibly start this season without a legit third reciever
How many teams actually do have a legit third receiver? lol With that being said, Tab Perry I think will fill that role adequately until Chris Henry returns.

...an offensive line that has lost their best lineman
:toofunny: Yeah, Eric Steinbach was a lot better than Willie Anderson and Levi Jones. :sofunny:

An aging D-line
The Bengals starting D-line will be Justin Smith (27 years old), John Thornton (30 years old), Domata Peko (22 years old), Robert Geathers (23 years old). Only one player over 27...doesn't seem to old to me.

three LB's that have never played together
Landon Johnson, Ahmad Brooks, and Rashad Jeanty played together for the majority of last year.

I got your drift the first time, CS. What I was saying is that no matter how you slice it, dice it or sugar coat it, the Bungles didn't make the playoffs either and that we ended your season. If we had won against ANY of the teams we lost to, we would have snuck past KC because we had the edge on them, having trounced them in Week 6. hmmmmm...last I heard Geathers was going to remain a pass rush specialist (edge pass rusher) and would come in on third downs to relieve Bryan Robinson..
Your starters as of now are supposed to be Justin Smith (27 years old), John Thornton (30 years old), (Michael Myers 31 years old), and Bryan Robinson (33 years old)
I have heard that Domata Peko looks good and may push for a starting position...(and that Frostee Rucker looks like a bust)

Landon Johnson, Ahmad Brooks, and Rashad Jeanty played together for the majority of last year.

yep....but again..not your starters. kiss_my_stripes must have dropped out of school. I think I get the point of his post but the spelling and grammar is really bad. Anyway, our team did more in 2005 & 1995 than the Bengals have done in 40 plus years. This is a prime example of someone who has jumped on the Bengal Bandwagon.

The only chance Ed Hartwell has of starting is beating out Rashad Jeanty for the other OLB position, which I don't think is going to happen as Jeanty has more flexibility and can switch to defensive end if the Bengals want to give a hybrid look.

It will be: OLB Ahmad Brooks, MLB Landon Johnson, OLB Rashad Jeanty.

Even while we were relying on Kordell Stewart to carry us into the Super Bowl, the bungles were still a laughing stock. I knew the clowns would give us harder competiton than the bungles did during those years. In Cowher's tenure he had, I believe, 4 losing seasons, multiple AFCC/AFCN championships, and 2 Super Bowl appearances.

If Chad Johnson was more worried about his team winning than what he is going to do the next time he scores the bengals might do okay. If I was Palmer I'd be beating this guy every time he opens his mouth because nothing good comes out of it. CJ might be a great reciever but he would rather go to the probowl than the super bowl the guy is a joke of a teammate if you ask me. it figures you would look at it that way. I can't believe bengal fans love this guy all he cares about is himself and the attention he gets. Someone should tell CJ that if your team goes to the superbowl you get to talk to the media for a whole 2 weeks that might motivate him to try to make his team better and maybe try to actually win something as a team.

I actually don't think Ocho Stinko has a problem with motivation. He is actually probably one of the more dedicated athletes on the field. What he DOES need to focus on is moving away from himself, and being a leader for the team. Calling out people who are acting stupidly, getting arrested, etc.

He's led the AFC in receiving yard the past 4 years, I think he's holding up his end of the bargain. Yeah, he's an attention w.hore, but at least it's positive attention and he backs most of it up on the field.

I just don't see how you can say Chad Johnson is the problem on the team when they've had 10 players arrested in a year and had a defense that made even Michael Vick look like a real quarterback.
