I am wondering what Steelers fans here know of the Steelers players and coaches before 1970. I have learned a lot but want to learn more.
By the way does anybody know who this is?

It is Steelers Hall of Famer John Henry Johnson(1960-65).

I have also learned a little bit about "Bullet" Bill Dudley and that the Steelers have actually retired 1 number in the franchise. #70 Ernie Stautner. There are many Steelers in the HOF that played before 1970.

Bill Saul was the first player to wear a microphone for NFL Films.

Get and watch the Steelers' History DVD set. It is well worth the money.

I do. We had some great guys then. Gary Ballman was a WR in the hines Ward mold. Buzz Nutter was a pretty good center. In addition to JHJ we had Cannonball Butler and Dick Hoak. On defense there was Big Daddy Lipscomb, as great a DL as you'll find in the modern era. Ed Brown passed for almost 3000 yards in '63.

The problem was the culture of losing. Once Noll changed that, there was no looking back.
