Center Chukky Okobi, knocked out of Wednesday's afternoon practice with an apparent back injury, didn't practice again Thursday, and his status is uncertain. Free-agent signee Sean Mahan, who missed last week's Saints game while attending to personal matters, will start at center.

* Coach Mike Tomlin says running back Willie Parker (knee) and guard Alan Faneca (shoulder) will miss Saturday's exhibition game against the Green Bay Packers. Tomlin says Parker is being held out for precautionary reasons. "We are being extremely cautious because we don't want a short-term issue to become a long-term issue," Tomlin said.

* Quarterback Brian St. Pierre, who missed Wednesday's practice with a hand injury, was back on the field yesterday.

* The Steelers' afternoon practice yesterday on the South Side attracted some familiar faces. Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and former Steelers defensive back Mike Logan were among those who stopped by after the workout was moved from Latrobe to the UPMC indoor facility. Ravenstahl, a former record-breaking place-kicker at Washington & Jefferson, watched the kickoff and kickoff return drills before more urgent matters called, as violent thunderstorms rolled through the region. Logan, a McKeesport native who retired this past season after 10 years with the Steelers and Jaguars, was given a warm greeting.

I'm sorry Chukky is having problems with his back, but after watching Mahan in TC, oh woe is the Pack's D line. The guy is strong like bull.

That stinks but at least we have a decent backup. Though we need a good line this year last year they were always hurt.

Good to hear.

BTW... why don't we start trying to work chukky in a couple different positions? See if he can be a backup at Guard or tackle as well? Heck, maybe he works into the Starting lineup at a different position, if he gets back...
