I cant help it.

The ref sounds like a cross between Michael jackson and mike tyson!

Lmao..Who is that guy anyways?..

In other news, William Gay goes from hero to zero in just one game...lol

Preacher
08-11-2007, 09:49 PM
Sounds like Gay actually made a veteran move...

Just take the penalty rather then leave the guy to score a TD.

I totally understand, I just generally save my heart the undo stress untill the regular season starts. Didn't mean to tell you how to enjoy the game..

Don't worry about it man. I just like to practice my temper control while it's in the pre-season.

WTF D????

Preacher
08-11-2007, 09:54 PM
Oh please....

Hoke. Be okay. I like the fact that he is walking off himself, putting some weight on it. But I want him ready for game 1. We really need him... especially if we want to line up in a 4-3,

43Hitman

Seems like the Pack is taking a long hard look at A. Rogers..

Preacher

Preacher

Seems like the Pack is taking a long hard look at A. Rogers..

Yeah..

Again. This is probably Favre's last year.

43Hitman
08-11-2007, 09:55 PM
So far Rogers is 14/22 and 146 yards 1 TD.

Elvis
08-11-2007, 09:56 PM
I believe your right hitman... seems like maybe he is ready to take over this offense in Green Bay...

43Hitman
08-11-2007, 09:57 PM
Can B. St.Pierre bring us back? I would love to see a rally right about now..Maybe that would spark the defense.

The Duke
08-11-2007, 09:57 PM
That Mason Crosby has a great leg, 52 yards in heinz field

Preacher
08-11-2007, 09:57 PM
They are saying that was a big kick for FG...

Yeah, I understand that... but that kick wouldn't have gone that far 3 months from now... with the typical swirling winds... and cold weather.

SteelCityMan786
08-11-2007, 09:57 PM
Ahhhh FEH

Packers 13, Steelers 9

Good Job St. Pierre.

Elvis
08-11-2007, 09:58 PM
Yeah..

Again. This is probably Favre's last year.
I think that maybe Favres' stayin' just a little too long... he maybe hindering this teams future by staying around this long...
Aint it time that St.Pierre is out of this game? I have seen too much of this guy already...
:tt02:

The Duke
08-11-2007, 09:59 PM

I think its a valuable game.

The game in Canton had us all on cloud nine. This one reminds us that its a LONG way to number six.

Listening to Tomlin's press conference right now... Can't agree more. He wants to put an exclamation point on the pre season this week.

Our starting defense looked great this week again.

I'm worried about the OLine. Our, mostly, starting offense couldn't really get into a rhythm. That starts with the OLine.

I suppose its also important to remember that our most explosive offensive player was on the sidelines...

Steelers fall to Packers comeback, 13-9

Saturday, August 11, 2007

By Gerry Dulac, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The Green Bay Packers scored 10 points in the third quarter and held the Steelers without a point in the second half to post a 13-9 victory tonight in a preseason game at Heinz Field, spoiling Mike Tomlin's first home game as head coach.

The Steelers were victimized by a play that haunted them last season when Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers threw a 3-yard touchdown to rookie wide receiver Carlyle Holiday on a fade pass in which cornerback Anthony Madison had good position but failed to defend the play.

The Packers also got a 52-yard field goal by rookie kicker Mason Crosby in the third quarter.

Charlie Batch threw a 41-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Walter Young on third-and-17 with 48 seconds remaining in the first quarter to give the Steelers a 6-0 lead.

Jeff Reed, who had an extra point blocked, kicked a 27-yard field goal in the second quarter to pad the lead to 9-0.

Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger played only two series and completed 2 of 2 passes for 14 yards, a far cry from his performance in the first preseason game against the New Orleans Saints. He also was credited with a fumble when he had the ball stripped from his throwing hand on a sack by Packers defensive end Cullen Jenkins.

Steelers defense shines, but offense falters in loss
By Scott Brown
TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Saturday, August 11, 2007

For all of the talk of what the Steelers will do on offense this season, the defense has been the story so far in the preseason.

The first stringers didn't allow a first down Saturday night and, for the second consecutive week, yielded very little to a quarterback known for putting up big numbers.

While the defense shined in the Steelers' 13-9 loss to Green Bay in front of 57,131 fans at Heinz Field, hiccups by the offense and special teams will give coach Mike Tomlin plenty to editorialize about in his next edition of "The News."

The first-team offense didn't look nearly as sharp as it did in the Steelers' 20-7 win over the Saints last Sunday. The Steelers managed just one first down in the two series quarterback Ben Roethlisberger played and struggled with the no-huddle offense they used for the first time this year.

"That's kind of tough when you're only playing two series," Roethlisberger said of the offense's inability to get into a rhythm. "We weren't out there as much as we'd normally like, but we were at the point where we had to come out."

The starters should play more next Saturday when the Steelers (1-1 in the preseason) visit the Washington Redskins.

"The more and more that we get to play," wide receiver Hines Ward said, "the more and more we'll have a chance to work on things."

The offensive line showed that it is still a work in progress.

While it opened some holes that led to big gains by running backs Najeh Davenport (21 yards) and Kevan Barlow (17), it allowed three sacks in the first half, including one that led to a lost fumble by Roethlisberger.

The special teams, like the offense, also had its moments - good and bad.

Daniel Sepulveda averaged 49.8 yards on five punts, and Cedrick Wilson broke free for a 45-yard gain on a punt return. But Jeff Reed had an extra point blocked, and Wilson's return only went for 23 yards because Deshea Townsend was called for holding.

Tomlin probably won't have anything negative to write about the defensive starters in the mock newspaper he uses to critique his players, although he couldn't have liked seeing reserve nose tackle Chris Hoke get helped off the field after sustaining a knee injury.

Packers quarterback Brett Favre completed just 2-of-7 passes for 7 yards, and Green Bay didn't get its initial first down until the second quarter.

In two games, the Steelers' first team defense has held Favre and Saints quarterback Drew Brees to a combined 13 yards passing.

"Our (defensive backs) are playing real, real good," nose tackle Casey Hampton said, "not letting them catch any passes. When they play like that, we'll be hard to beat."

The Steelers didn't get anything going offensively until Charlie Batch took over for Roethlisberger.

Batch threw a 41-yard touchdown pass to Walter Young near the end of the first quarter, and a long completion to Santonio Holmes early in the second quarter set up a 27-yard Reed field goal.

The Packers (1-0) scored 10 points in the third quarter to take a lead they would not relinquish.

Rookie Gary Russell was one of the bright spots for the Steelers in the second half. He rushed for 56 yards on nine carries.

I believe that Tomlin said in his press conference that he likes to mix it up at fullback with Kuhn and Davis...

I'm really happy with what Russell has done so far this preseason. He's shaping up to be exactly what I hoped.

That's good. I thought it was kind of late in the game for Hoke to be out there.......hope it's not too bad. As much as I despise the Bengirls, I hate seeing what happened to Irons. First the poor kid had the misfortune to be drafted by the Bengirls and then a season ending injury before the season even starts. Sucks.

Your right...

I hope he can come back and do well.

For Hoke... I am glad it isn't as bad as we thought it may have been. Hopefully it will be okay in a couple of days.

Was anthony starting at FS? Says so here
Smith vs. Clark

Anthony Smith replaced Ryan Clark as the starting free safety last night. Those two are competing for a job Clark held last season and in the first preseason game.

I think he did... but it wasn't anything to read into... same with Willie starting at right tackle.

It was pre-planned for that I believe.

Spoke with Hoke after the game when he came out. Said the knee was fine, he didn't even have it wrapped or iced. Actually signed a couple of autographs and jumped in his car and was gone. Timmons stayed and signed autographs for about 30 minutes. Said the drugs were working that the doctor gave him this week, wasent sure if he would be practicing this week or not. Said they dont want to rush him and bother it again. They all were looking to getting out of there and spending the night with there wifes and girlfriends. Got 10 signatures and 3 Coaches. All the coaches said the same thing " Some good stuff and some bad stuff " Just a update after the game in the parking lot...LOL

Sounds good. I was worried when I read an article the other day because his doctor is supposedly some guy who just started practicing medicine. I think his name is Richard Williams. He's out of Miami.

Wait a second... Richard.. Rich... Dick... RICKY. RICKY WILLIAMS!

DON'T TAKE THOSE DRUGS, TIMMONS!

Maybe he should. After all, this guy has bust written all over him...

The greatest news coming out of that game, we got out of it with one minor injury. That's about it.

The Bad:

The O-line: Marvel Smith struggled last night (torched by Jenkins to cause the fumble) and Max Starks looked even worse and is going to get Ben Roethlisberger killed before all is said and done. IMO, I feel it's time for Tomlin to set his o-line unit and keep it set for the rest of the preseason. That line up should be in my opinion....

Right Tackle: Colon
Right Guard: Simmons
Center: Mahan
Left Guard: Faneca
Left Tackle: Smith

Special Teams (surprise!): This wouldn't be such a big deal if Tomlin wasn't stressing our ST's play in camp. Between the blocked kick and the return unit, it's not looking good. Although our kick return defense and Sepulveda looked solid.

The Good:

Gary Russell: Barlow is slowly leaving the building. Russell may have struggled with his academics while in Minnesota, but he has looked good in camp and during the Packers game. Watching Davis and Russell battle it out has been fun. The next three games should be interesting when it comes to those two.

Charlie Batch: I felt Charlie played good (throw to Holmes was nice). It's comforting to know (after last season) that we have a very solid back up QB on this roster. Maybe it was just me, but I felt BSP played pretty good for being our #3. It's not as if we are asking him to start. I thought he controlled the offense pretty well, stood up to the pressure and showed some nice feet considering he was playing behind the third string line. At this point, judging that he didn't touch the field last night, I think it's safe to say they are keeping Randall around in order to have a warm arm in camp.

Our secondary: William Gay continues to push Colclough out of the Steelers future plans. First McFadden and I feel (eventually), William Gay will pass Colclough, who has yet to show me anything special over the last four years. I believe Gay had a sack and about 6 tackles last night. I'm not sure how much more you can ask from a first year rookie taken in the fifth round. He's definately making a name for himself over these last two preseason games. Overall, I felt we blanketed the Packer WR's pretty well. Particulary in the first half.

Our WR's: Walter Young and Santonio Holmes have looked good over the last two games. I feel bad for Young. He's producing (while Nate is dropping), but the guy can't make the practice squad if he's cut, so if he doesn't make the team this year he is gone. In reality, he has looked a helluva lot better than Nate up to this point in the preseason.

I'm sure I missed some aspects both in the good and the bad columns, but the above stood out to me the most last night.

On a side note. Hats off to Packer fans. They travel well and with class. It was a joy to be around them and have a few beers with a couple of them last night. It was a refreshing and welcoming experience.

im watching this game for the 1st time on replay.

reed kicks to the endzone
davis makes a tackle behind the 20
foote has blanket coverage and knocks down a pass
troy gets pressure on farve
tomlin gives troy a pound on the fist for the 3 and out
ried catches the punt on the run
GB penalized

the thing i notice most going into the defensive series after the stupid sack and fumble is how active troy is.

if this is "vanilla" defense, the real deal with the 1st teamers should be great.
