Personally, I think we spend way too much time hatin' on the Bungles - we all know they SUCK and don't need a 24/7 reminder.

I'm all for transferring some of that hate to the Clowns and especially the Rats, as they are our toughest competition for the AFCN crown this season, imho. :chicken:

From the COC....

-Line breaks or ALL-CAPS.

-Bad language. Mild cursing is tolerated in moderation, but be careful of your tone, especially against fellow posters.

True, but I think we could hold ourselves to more of a higher standard by setting an example for our young Steelers fans, who, as I mentioned, have access to this forum. I think we can all get our points across in this forum without f-bombing.

Look - we didn't make the rules. We just try our best to enforce them so that everyone's experience here at SF is a positive one, including the youngins.

No, it's just that the rules are actually enforced now. That's what's changed.

More from the CoC:

9. Do not argue with the enforcement of the above commandments.

-If any of the Steelers Fever Administrators or Moderators tells you to comply with one of these rules, you must comply.
-If you argue the rules, you'll be warned.

Can we move on now?

And just a week or so ago you were complaining about people smacking a troll around. Does this sound familiar?

No offense to anyone here, but this interloper accomplished his goal, and not due to any great intellect. He has 199 responses to his original post. Hundreds of posts responding to some Bengals fan who really doesn't even understand the game at all. I think he's kind of the "Al Sharpton" of football message boards, and the more you all respond, the more this nothing becomes something.

So according to your logic, F-bombs all over the place are cool, but we're demeaning ourselves by smacking a troll around?

Quite frankly, I don't see what the big deal is about the F bomb. Not that I'm a saint, but really - if a person feels the incessant need to use vulgarity on an internet BB, that person needs to reassess what is really important in their lives. Not directing this at you specifically, PNP, as you are the prince of cool around here. :wink02: Seriously, though - if people like the F word so much, spend a few bucks and rent a porno - you'll get to hear it to your heart's (and a bit farther south, too) content. :wink02::chicken:

Ever heard the expression "Apples and Oranges"? One thing has absolutely nothing to do with the other. The troll knew nothing about football, yet he garnered hundreds of responses. If he used the f-bomb 400 times or 4, it doesn't change the fact that he knew/knows nothing about the game of football, and doesn't deserve that many responses. I'm very confident that the gist of my thought was both internally and externally consistent.

Just in case I'm being misunderstood, I'll clarify. I'd rather have 100 posters who understand the game inside and out and cuss like sailors than 100,000 posters who can't tie their own shoelaces and just post a bunch of nonsense that's socially accepted just because it's Rated G.

But that's just me.

Patronizing much? Yes, I'm quite familiar with the term "apples and oranges," thank you very much. However, the rules of the site specifically outline what type of language is acceptable and which isn't:

NOWHERE do the rules specify that a mindless troll can't post BS in the Blast Furnace, as long as it is confined to the Blast Furnace. Besides, he stepped over the line and got banned, so you won't have to worry about it anymore. Sorry if the rules of this board don't suit your vision on how this site should be run. If you find this situation so distasteful, might I suggest that you start your own board and run it how you see fit? Thanks.

No, you're not in "trouble." Myself, HTG and the other mods are simply trying to enforce the rules that have never been enforced before we became mods, and some veterans of the board who have been around for quite a while are having a problem with it. That is the crux of the matter. If you'd like the rules changed, please address it to Mike (SteelersFever) since he is the one who put these rules into place in the first place. I'm simply a foot soldier in this regard.

I still maintain that whether on a BB or in "real life" - a topic can be debated or disagreed upon without using vulgarity.

On a BB as large as SF, there are many different personalities and varying degrees of football and sports knowledge. We have those who I deem as 'experts' (i.e. AtlantaDan, 83, Tony hipcheese :wink02:, fansince, the artist formerly known as Suitanim, just to name a few), those I view as solid posters with good football smarts, those who are here to learn more about the team, its history and the game itself (some of the under 21'ers) and then those few who are or were here for reasons unrelated to the Steelers or to the game. Some people have the gift of self-expression and convey their thoughts and opinions well in a public forum, but it doesn't automatically crown them as being more "football savvy" than anyone else.

This is a board of opinions and ALL opinions and thoughts are welcomed, whether we agree or disagree with a particular poster(s) point of view or how they convey that viewpoint.

I don't believe anyone, particularly fansince, is overreacting to anything that was said. We don't make the rules around here - we simply do as we are asked and enforce them. We let a lot more go in the BF than in the other forums, but if you or anyone else is pissed off because we respectfully ask that the "F" word (and several others) not be used on this board out of simple RESPECT for our other members, particularly those who are minors, that's just tough tooties - sorry.

Now - can we get back to the original topic?

There are various other Steelers boards out there where vulgarity is the norm if that is what you and others are looking for. I dunno - I look more for good football discussion than I do for F bombs, potty mouths and bullies behind computer screens who get off on making others feel uncomfortable (not necessarily referring to you). :hunch:

"Careful, the rules still apply."

Seems to me the blast furnace was not for personal attacks, nor for cussing and swearing at someone, rather it was for saying.. The Bengals are an ignorant horrible team, and then back it up with why.

the other forums were specifically to discuss issues, without ripping on other teams.

Am I wrong?

Here is the way I look at it:

It's a rule, so just follow it. It was a rule before, but the moderators back then didn't really care. Ever wonder why they are no longer moderators?

I would rather have football related argument with very little vulgarity and name calling. If you can back it up, you win. If you can't, you shouldn't have made the comment. To resort to vulgarity and name calling when losing an argument, all you do is make yourself look childish. You also look like a sore loser.

Oh yeah...time for the facts of football life:

I pretty much hate ANY team that lines up opposite the Steelers on any given Sunday.

But especially more the Bungles.

Hate those c0 cky-bastards, who've never won a damn thing, yet claim they're the uncrowned champions of the world. Face the facts boys, you guys may have a nice aerial attack, but you're weak. Weak running the rock, weak stopping the run, and even weaker when facing adversity (see Palmer, Carson also Von Oelhoffen, Kimo). It is what a person does when faced with adversity that truly defines them, in this case, when faced with adversity, the Bungles buckled like a belt.

The way I look at it CS - at least the Steelers HAD a somewhat legitimate excuse for their 8-8 season - their starting QB was fubared almost the entire season but wanted to get in the game anyway, though he most likely shouldn't have.

And the Bungles excuse for their identical 8-8 season is? Hmmmmmm?

There were a number of reasons we lost both games big to the Ratbirds last year, but the crack dealer wasn't one of them.

The way I look at it CS - at least the Steelers HAD a somewhat legitimate excuse for their 8-8 season - their starting QB was fubared almost the entire season but wanted to get in the game anyway, though he most likely shouldn't have.

And let me guess, you also think that Carson Palmer being injured in the playoff game in 2005 isn't a legitimate excuse for why the Bengals lost? There are such things as legitimate excuses, but they don't change the reality of things that have occurred and they don't just apply for one team.

But you're right, the Bengals had no excuse last year to finish the season in the way they did. It is what it is. They choked on multiple occasions.

It's not a legit excuse when you lead at halftime.

Your defense fell apart on you, and all-of-a-sudden Kitna forgets how to play football? I truly think you guys lose that game with or without Palmer. One player doesn't make the team CS, I thought you knew that.

You mean like the Steelers going 8-8 after Big Ben did a faceplant off his crotch rocket? That kind of adversity?

No, not that kind of adversity. Your QB and franchise folded in the biggest game of their season. Our QB managed to cheat death, and still managed to lead his team to a .500 finish. Big difference there son.

Look son, I've schooled you enough on this topic already, but maybe, just maybe this time it will sink into that thick as a brick skull of yours. Caution's twisted little knee happened ON THE FIELD OF PLAY, and wasn't LIFE THREATENING. It happened in his line of work which he is grossly overpaid for, even for a professional standard. Ben's accident was LIFE THREATENING, and could've happened to any of us. Hell after surviving that accident it's a miracle that the kid was even suiting up and taking snaps, but that's what Champions do, they don't bitch and belly-ache about how they hate a certain franchise for having what they dont (sound familiar). So, yeah, they're not the same, kid.

So next time, think long and hard there Cletus, before you go spouting off your rhetoric on this matter. Because the bottom line is: the two scenarios are about as different as have 5 Lombardi Trophy's in your case, as to having none in your case.

You're helping my point...if Palmer isn't knocked out of the game, Kitna isn't in there to lose the game.

Sure, the Bengals had a chance to win that game even without Palmer...but that doesn't change the fact that the Bengals are a better team with Palmer.

I truly think you guys lose that game with or without Palmer. One player doesn't make the team CS, I thought you knew that.

Palmer isn't just any one player, he's the Bengals franchise quarterback...he touches the ball on every offensive play. He's, at worst, the 4th best quarterback in the league. Taking him out of a game is like taking Drew Brees off of the Saints...do you really think the Saints would have done anything without him last year?

But again, I'm not one for arguing over losses, they'll always be losses. I just find it ironic that somehow Ben's self-inflicted injury is a good excuse for losing 8 games, but the loss of Palmer isn't a legitimate one for a playoff loss.

Yeah, your QB luckily managed to cheat death despite being an idiot and riding a motorcycle without a helmet. And yes, the Bengals choked in the last game of the season.

So, let me get this straight...Ben is some kind of hero because he was dumb enough to endanger his own career by doing some in breech of his contract without any kind of protective gear and living to tell about it? Right.

but that's what Champions do, they don't bitch and belly-ache
mmhhmm...remind me again of how many injuries Ben had last season that were completely unrelated to his accident? I lost count. Was it 8? I think there was a new one for every game the Steelers lost last season. You didn't see anyone in the Bengals organization or fan-base making excuses for losses last season because of Palmer's injury, which according to some of the gurus on this board, should have kept him out of the first 4-8 games of the season and would possibly prevent him from ever being the same QB again.

But I'm sure this is all very confusing to you, so you may now return to your Hello Kitty coloring book.

Somehow, CS - an 8-8 record doesn't really add much credence to your statement above.

Say what you will about Ben's injuries - the guy had not one, not two, but THREE very serious injuries/medical maladies in a span of 4 months but as another member stated above, didn't whine about them, didn't throw venom darts at any other team - instead - he put that uni and pads on and sucked it up. got out there and played (though in hindsight, probably shouldn't have). Cartoon whined and moaned like a little simp about how much he hated the Steelers (jealousy is a very ugly color of green). He also had an entire off-season to recuperate and rehabilitate that knee. As previously stated - Ben got his hiney right back on that field and at least tried to play.

Bosh..bang... wallop!

Nothing like a good stat based offensive!

Nice work, that man.

Hey, it's hard work trying to stay "within the lines" on the Hello Kitty coloring book grades 1-3, Cletus. But while I'm doin that, I'll let you get back to kissin your cousin.

And if your takes are confusing, it's because they're pointless.
