i believe that pressure creates turnovers, and coverage creates sacks. if he does achieve his goal would it be due to improvements in the secondary?

what do you think?

I find 12 sacks hidhly unlikely but I could see him getting maybe 6 or 7 this year.

If Harrison achieves his goal, it is going to be because he has the self-motivation to excel at his position and also through hard work on the field.

It matters not what we think - if Harrison has set this goal for himself, I don't think it is out of the realm of possibility that he can and will achieve it - with a little help from his "friends".

"That's just it, I don't care what other people say. I'm not worried about what other people say. I'm worried about what I do and helping my teammates out and make sure I'm not letting my teammates or coaches down. As far as what everybody else says, it doesn't matter."

That's like saying "I'm going to be a top 10 sacker this year". How can one actually estimate that? It's unlikely that Harrison gets 12 sacks but it's something to shoot for.

Besides what would people say if he said "I'll get 6 sacks this year!".

Its not like he said he wants set the alltime season sack mark....So I think 12 sacks isn't impossible for James Harrison...You have the think the 3-4 blitz style defense is designed for OLBs to post double digit sack totals....

Another point I would like to add is Coach Tomlin said he will give Harrison and Haggans a breather at times this year.....In years past Coach Cowher didn't do that for his OLBs......So I think Woodley,Timmons and even Arnold Harrison will give Harrison and Haggans a blow from time to time to keep them fresher in games and the season....So that could also help Harrison in his reach for 12 sacks....

i dont think harrison will get the playing time to achieve that kind of number... of course if he is playing at a pace to get that number, i doubt he will be spelled by woodley or timmons very often. so in other words, if he starts out hot.. id actually give him a chance.. but if not, the rooks will get more and more playing time.

He certainly can do it! But like HTG said, "...with a little help from his friends." We all know that the pressure has to be there from both sides, and a good push from the Big Snack! I'll be counting!

Come on Silverback!! Time to smash some QB's! :banging::helmet::tt02:

With that being said...........Here kitty, kitty, kitty........:flipoff:

I've liked what I've seen in Harrison in what times I have seen him so far. I'm pulling for him and I think it's a possible, if unlikely goal. Now as a starter he'll have the time to possibly show us.

i don't think he said it to impress anyone, i take it as a personal goal. because of that fact i like it, because of the aggressive nature. people who set high standards for themselves usually perform well.

Go James!!:tt02: we're rooting for you!:tt02:

With the way Troy plays....he should get 5 sacks a game...its no wonder we payed him value...Harrison is too small to get by most Tackles, so I predict we will pressure in other ways and gamble ALOT....Harrison loses his job to Woodley after the 3rd week of the season....Woodley and Timmons will be the next Lloyd and Greene...in 5 yrs we will be scrambling to keep them both....

12 might be pushing it but ever since we delt porter i have known harrison is going to have a big year. I think 12 might be a reach but maybe 8-9 would still be a solid year

Using last year sacks allowed stats I can see him getting 8. 12 is possible but like the other posters said Woodley and Timmons are going to steal some stats from him when they substitute.

Team Position by scks allowed(higher number more sacks the oline gave up. We were 28.

We had what... 4 sacks again?

Wow. 10 sacks in two weeks... and only allowed 10 points in two weeks.

that is GREAT football. Heck, I will take a point with a sack each week!

That would be 160 sacks, 160 points on them...

Oh yeah... I would take that!!

James Harrison, the real Silverback ...... sorry you're out of luck Mark Henry.

I've posted this a couple times before on different subject but when you aim low, that's likely the highest you'll acheive. When a driven guy like Harrison shoots for a high mark, even if he falls short he challenged himself and left his best on the field. Nobody can ask for more than that.

It's like Kitna saying he'd win 10 games this year. He took some grief over his remarks but who would want to follow a quarterback with a goal of winning half their games.

Aim high and shoot for excellence. Go Silverback!

Edman
09-17-2007, 05:51 PM
He's on a good pace. Silverback's got 2 sacks over the span of 2 games. He's got an enforcer-like mentality, he's fast, powerful, and I remember Coach Cowher saying he has a great center of gravity. Which is impressive for someone his age.

I hope that James is another Kevin Greene, who still produced well past 30.

Kaeg

Does anyone know how many sacks James has so far? I know he set a lofty goal. (Was it 12?) I thought I saw 2 by him against the Bills, but then I thought one was negated. Think they ruled it incomplete. Maybe a tuck rule kind of situation. Just curious if his goal is still realistic. I'm still pulling for him and a speedy come back.

Sorry mods, for starting a new thread with this one. It's in it's rightful place now. :)

And the fantastic "Manbeast" additude. I think maybe ol' Jack Lambert musta had a few words with him tonight before the game. Harrison put on a show worthy of #58 himself.

He is up to 6.5 sacks. With 8 games to go, he is on pace for 12.

That was one hell of a game by Silverback!!!! Half of the time he was up against Jonathan Ogden too! Did you see the end of the interception runback when he straight-armed Mason to the ground? He crushed him! And the replay of that hit on Reed (i think it was Reed) on the punt return, I watched it over & over!!! Silverback was just slamming people everywhere! :helmet:

Silverback was The Man tonight!

I find 12 sacks highly unlikely but I could see him getting maybe 6 or 7 this year.

doesn't harrison already have 6.5 sacks in 8 games?

if they would rush him as much as they did the overrated porter he would have more.

harrison is on pace for...

tackles - 92

sacks - 13

forced fumbles - 8

ints - 2

how many tackles did the overrated porter have last year? 55

i did, i have stated for a few seasons that harrison could easily replace porter and play better too. porter didn't bring much to the table besides a one move to the QB and a big mouth. a move that was only good against a feeble RB or a LT that fell down.

i still think harrison might be better as an ILB. perhaps moving either timmons or woodley outside. harrison won't get pushed around or mowed down like foote does.

Not to mention the forced fumbles he has generated. He's Silverback for a reason.

foote got his sack blitzing on the outside last game. i never saw him and farrior come in from the outside like that.
