Just joined up!

Can't remember when I wasn't a Steeler fan, but started following them closely in grade school in the early-mid 1960's. The nuns let us get a coke from the pop machine one day...cost, 10 cents...and on the underside of the cap was a picture of Myron Pottios (then with the Steelers). One could collect the whole team (if you had rolls of dimes and were willing to risk volcanic zits and seismic burping). Anyway, that's about when I started digging into stats, team history, etc.

I chose the user name Galvanized Steel 'cuz I worked in one of Pittsburgh's galvanizing plants during my summer between college and grad school. We didn't make steel...we made it better.

I could go on about traveling two hours with pals (to escape the blackout) in order to watch the Immaculate Reception game on TV in Cambridge Springs, PA...or (currently) spending in-season afternoons at the local beer garden just to see games. (Lots of Steeler fans here in Jersey, so at least the company's good).

I can still get plenty worked up over a bad call, but not like the younger guys who act like western civilization can be ground to a halt by a replay ref.

I'll chime in on a thread every once in a while, but mostly enjoy "listening".

Thanks for having me.

Thanks for the welcome.

Maplewood, Essex County.

Good luck in school, but don't forget that it takes work. Our youngest got his college degree this year, following in his brother's and sister's footsteps, thus completing the sweep. Study's the most important thing...(except when the Steelers are on, of course).

I know where that is I grew up in Paterson as a matter of fact I will be going thru essex today on my way to the Bronx. So are you going to the Meadowlands this season for the game?

I tried replying earlier, but it must have got lost in cyberspace.

No, I''ll most likely skip the trip to the Meadowlands. Instead, I'll stay put and enjoy the relatively rare treat of watching a Steelers game at home.

Seeing the Steelers from the comfort of my own couch doesn't happen often enough, what with two teams in the market (Giants and Jets). Usually one plays at 1pm and the other at 4pm (and NFL rules greatly limit other games, like the Steelers vs. a non-NY/NJ team, being shown when local teams are being broadcast locally). Hence, very few Steelers games on local air (except during the playoffs, of course).

So, I rather enjoy a "home" game. No travel at all, better food, better beer.
