nice to still hear about carsons "devastating" knee injury.

:coffee: he didnt even miss a start.

nice to see tj getting jacked up so early and then throwing his arms up at carson when he drops a perfectly thrown ball. poor tj, it was thrown to hard for him. :crying01:

still dont know who i want to win. the ravens 2nd year player from oregon caught an overthrown bullet from mcnair without any bitching or histrionics.

Well defense looked good, offense not as much.to bad mr. "best shape in my life" lewis jacked up his arm trying to put a little extra "hot sauce" on houshmandzadeh.

i dont root for injuries but attrition by inflated ego's would be nice.

Wow ^ despite my doubts of us competing with teams like the Ravens...I take it back. The Steelers looked far more impressive than either team today (so far). That's not to take awAY from the Bengals either, the Bengals look great (especially the defense) but I think the Steelers are better than both so far.

mcnair and rayray are already breaking down.add ogden to the list.

however demetrius williams definitely looks like the darkhorse in the ravens offense. i know alot were high on him to have a big year. its possible if he keeps catching everything thrown his way like that. musa smith looks a little more explosive than mcgahee but i think they are catching the bungles off guard by actually running it when he is in the game.

Hey 85,

Is it me or does palmer look a little off his game - those high passes are going to get one of his WR's heads ripped clean off.

Two questionable parts... The Ravens O and the Bengals D...which one will play worse? The Ravens O was worse tonight. Not to discredit the Bengals D, though. They're hitting pretty hard tonight.

The only respectable Bungle fan I've ever come across is a member of this board. Even Browns fans have more class (and are far less fair-weathered). Holy shit - did I just say that? :jawdrop:

For now, I'm still sticking by my earlier prediction on the Rats winning the AFCN. A healthy McNair can be a dangerous McNair. If the Steelers play against either of these teams the way they manhandled the Browns yesterday, I don't see our guys having that hard of a time against the Rats or the Bungles, as long as the team stays healthy.

I love that Kornheiser keeps calling Jaworski on his Palmer man-crush. A few drives ago when Carson had four total passing yards in the entire half, Kornheiser said something like "an elite quarterback should at least be able to get ONE first down, right?" and Jaworski muttered something about it being a really tough drive or some other nonsense. thank God. the 49ers and cardinals is about to start. on to 2 teams who cant possiblycompletely f--- up a game as bad as these 2 teams have.

:chuckle:

Sorry, these teams play the way they have tonight and we play like we did yesterday, we kick both their asses. Badly. I'm thoroughly unimpressed by the "elite" teams of the AFCN at the moment.

Wow how poetic is that. Kyle Boller throwing the game ending interception. That's just lovely. I think Cleveland could end up in 2nd place in this division with the way these two teams have played today.

Boller got it right into Heap's hands. The Ravens' Super TE couldn't haul it in. Still, another dumb*** call by the offensive "genius". Way to go Ballick.

You're on the goaline, 2nd down, and you call for a pass. Pure Genius.

All in all, IMO, this game bodes well for the Steelers. Both of the ahem... "elite" teams in the AFC North played ugly, looked ugly, and looked very beatable.

No question about it. I don't think I've ever seen one team self-destruct on offense as much as the Ratbirds did tonight. Even the worst games the Steelers played last season wasn't that bad. And the Bungles did nothing at all to impress me - I mean, they were handed the game on a silver platter in the form of 6 turnovers and a bad interference call, and still almost managed to piss it away.

I know it's only one week, but color me unimpressed as well.

Yeah, the better team lost... That's good for us. Although they both SUCK. We have this division won.

I still don't understand how people are saying Boller/Billick messed the game up. Boller had it tied twice once the refs took the game away and once Heap did. There was nothing wrong with the call.

What a sloppy game. I sure didn't see an elite QB on that field tonight. What was that the announcer said......"this drive is a statement for Carson Palmer'. And then he over threw another one. I guess he was right.

But then I'll have to listen to the Bungals fans thump about what a great game it was. That's ok......it's always such great fun watching them get all pumped up and the get deflated.

I'd just like to point out that most of the turnovers that the Ravens "handed" to the Bengals were the result of either the Bengals pressuring McNair, stripping the ball, or making good plays on the ball.

Neither team played to their full potential, IMO, but it's the first game of the season. We can't all open the season with the Browns.

Of course, opposing fans will say..."Who did the Steelers play/beat to make them a contender". Yeah, we played the Browns. But the Steelers manhandled them. As we learned last year that you take no opponent lightly, no matter how much they suck (Raiders). Now, I'm not basing the rest of the season on this single week, but this may be a sure sign that this division is up for grabs. The Steelers can compete with these guys.

Some final comments on the Bengals:

The offense looked nowhere near as good as it should have, even though they were facing arguably the best defense in the league, they still should've done more if they want to be considered as one of the best offenses in the league.

Carson looked rusty at times...hopefully, this will iron out as the season goes on, he missed quite a few throws that he should have made, but at least he didn't have any turnovers.

The offensive line definitely missed Willie Anderson, Levi Jones, and Eric Ghiaciuc, but they didn't do too shabby with only 2 starters.

I really liked what I saw out of the defense for the most part. Leon Hall was playing like a shut-down corner. They were getting very good pressure and they were swarming to the ball, as apparent by the turnovers. I liked the energy out of the defense and think they'll be better than most expected.

The special teams were a disarray. Shayne Graham needs to get healthy quickly and the kick coverage needs to get their act together....allowing a TD to Ed Reed?

It was an ugly game, but I'm glad the Bengals could finally put the Ravens away in this one...something they failed to do down the stretch last season. Considering the Ravens were the top dogs in the division, I'm encouraged by the win.

CS85 I agree, your defense - at least in the first half - looked above average. It'll be interesting to see if they have that same mentality the entire year.

As for the pass inteference call in the endzone, think back to SB40 - many people said it wasn't pass interference. Remember a push is a push is a push is a push. It's a penalty that has to be more consistant in the NFL and it just happens that it went against the ratbirds. What's sad is that he didn't even have to do that, ball was placed perfectly.

Nice job bungals finishing off the ratbirds.

Neither team played to their full potential, IMO, but it's the first game of the season. We can't all open the season with the Browns.actually the bengals defense played way above its potential defensively, which is understandable seeing as this was their superbowl. as far as offense and special teams they picked up right where they left off last season. completely blowing it and tripping over their own feet.

par for the course.

as far as the ravens are concerned, age is clearly catching up with them. just as many predicted. no suprise there. the offense was a trainwreck. ed reed is a 1 man show.

it is true though that the bungles defense showed up to play. even when they played the 49ers in the sb they showed up.

they got good pressure on mcnair. and its no secret if you put down mcnair and make the ravens rely on boller your chances improve 100%.

im sure when the steelers face the ravens they will be facing a healthy ogden, lewis, and mcnair.

I had stated in an earlier post that everyone now knows that the Raves O-line is suspect. Even with Ogden starting...it is the worst kept secret in the NFL that he can NOT take on speed rushers at this point in his career.
All the Bengals did last night was monopolize an inferior line and put pressure on a second tier QB who was throwing to second tier WR's. ...no secret to the formula and the Bengals D wont be able to hide their weaknesses in the same manner with most teams.
That being said..Kudos to the D-coordinator .

Michael Wilbon lays into Boller, which seems a bit unfair (he did hit Heap in the numbers on the game ending INT).

It's the fifth year of Kyle Boller in Baltimore and nothing much has changed. The more you see of him at quarterback the less you want to see:sofunny:

I saw enough flaws in both teams to be optimistic of our chances to win the division. It's only one game, but the Ravens didn't look a division winner by any stretch of the imagination.

Do you suppose Ray Ray really hurt himself or did he just not get enough attention leading up to this game??

Ray Ray supposedly said he tore a biceps tendon - Ravens have not confirmed the extent of the injury.

Rust never sleeps - the Achilles heel of the Ravens is age. McNair reverting to his pre-2006 pattern and breaking down in the first quarter has to be a concern, as does Ogden limping off.

A couple things i noticed during the game

Ravens
1) Willis McGhee is a good back but not that big of an upgrade from jamal
2) Mark Clayton is not good enough to be a number 1 WR
3) The Ravens D aint what it used to be, Thomas lose seems to have affected
4) Mcnair is going to miss time this season he just always gets injured
5) Boller is a capable back up
6)dont really like there new fullback dont thinks he that good

Bengals

1) Offense did good but i thought they showed a little off season rust
2) Run defense is still vulnerable
3) not good on 3rd down D
4) rudi is so unclutch wow worst time to fumble
5) they couldnt really establish run game didnt give it a chance

I was watching this game on the Sopcast so the quility wasnt the best plus i was doing my homework at the same time so was paying really close attention so some of my points may be off but that just what i got from what i saw.

With week one in the books, I think one thing is clear. The Browns are the worst team in the division.

After that, I need to see a few more games from each team. The Steelers looked good but are we that good or are the Browns that bad?

And I don't know what to make of last night's game. What a sloppy game! It was nothing but turnovers and missed opportunities and ugly to watch.

It will be interesting to see how the two teams rebound from this game.

But getting back to our Steelers, BRING ON THE BILLS!!!
