FITZGERALD EYEBALLING ARIZONA EXIT?

http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm

Only two regular-season games into the Ken Whisenhunt era, rumors already are flying receiver Larry Fitzgerald is looking to leave the Cardinals when his rookie contract ends.

Fitzgerald, as the rumor goes, is not a big fan of Whisenhunt's run-based offense, and for good reason. Fitzgerald currently is averaging only five catches and 53.5 yards per game, which puts him on pace for 80 receptions and 856 receiving yards for the season. He currently has no receiving touchdowns in 2007.

There's no indication that Fitzgerald, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2004 draft, plans to try to force his way out prematurely. Based on the escalators in his rookie contract, there was speculation when it was signed that the Cardinals would likely have to extend the deal after four seasons. Since this is Fitzgerald's fourth season, and given that it's hard to justify two highly-paid wideouts (Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin) if the offense doesn't take full advantage of both of their skills, it could be time for the Cardinals to think about trading Fitzgerald.

One potential destination would be Minnesota, given that Fitzgerald is a native of Minneapolis and worked as a ball boy during the days of Cris Carter and Randy Moss. Though plenty of folks are murmuring about the Vikes possibly sniffing around Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb, we think it makes more sense for the Vikes try to bring Fitzgerald home.

Especially if the team wants to sell out the Metrodome on a regular basis.

Maybe we should try and snatch him...

Replacement for Hines for the future, hell yeah. Trade him for Faneca!!

This would maybe be viable if Faneca were 26. With other options thrown in I'm sure.

Its a fantasy, for sure, but I would love to have Fitz. The people here have already had a taste and from what I've seen, he's a class act.

Unfortunately, though, if he isn't a big fan of Whisenhunt's offense, he probably isn't going to like this one much better. Holmes is going to be our deep threat and if the 53 some yards a game are his gripe, he would probably see comparable numbers here as, probably, a possession guy.

Would be great, but not likely. I don't see them cutting all that cap space just to pick up even more. I'm sure that rookie contract is PRETTY loaded in the 5th year, being the 3 overall.

he wants to get away because they run the ball too much.. right now pittsburgh probably isnt his best bet to increase his stats. maybe in the future, but that will probably be when he has already signed with another team. i really dont know where we would find the money anyways. i just want ben locked up before anything else happens.

How do you do that? Santonio has more upside than Fitzgerald over the long term.

I thought about trading Faneca and a decent draft pick for Fitzgerald earlier this year and believe I even said something about it somewhere here on the boards but... I don't think so at this point.

If we could get him cheap, sure, go for it... But for the kind of money he is going to want... No way.

I would be MORE THAN happy to have Fitz back in Pittsburgh. Although I don't see it happening.

I'd feel the same way Chuck Noll felt about having Roy Jefferson.

Not going to happen, so it isn't even worth speculating.

Something gives me the feeling this guy would be an overpaid malcontent with the Steelers, so I would say no.

He's the best WR I have ever seen. As a die-hard Pitt fan, I would buy his Steelers jersey in mere seconds after the announcement.

Alas, we can't afford him.

Exactly, and another thing, this came from pro football talk. Another reason to ignore it.

I doubt Arizona will trade Larry. They are wanting to win now, so keeping him is what they will do.

I would love to see him here in a Steelers' uniform. But its like some have already said.. the Steelers are not gonna put that much $$$$$ out there for him. And I just think that he would be awesome here, but the Steelers wont do that ...

Going on the assumption that there is any validity to this article and we had the money, I would love to see us make a push for him. Guy has a great attitude (unless you automatically believe PFT of all sources), great character and the skills to match.

Unfortunately, I don't see the Rooney's putting up that type of cash nor do I see Fitz leaving Arizona. The article seems a little shady if you ask me and I have not heard or read anything on this story from an actual credible sports news source.

I would be just as happy to have Bryant Johnson...less money...and a legitimate replacement for Hines. (when the time comes)

Especially after the amount of money the Raiders threw to Russell.

Yeah, but I think the Bulger contract extension will affect it more. Rookies are kind of a different breed. Viewed differently I guess.
