i just saw it on the news here.

CLEVELAND -- A former Pittsburgh Steeler is in critical condition after being stabbed outside his Cleveland home.

The stabbing took place Tuesday morning on East 116th Street and Benham Avenue.

Police said they don't know who stabbed Eric Wilkerson, who was also a star player at Kent State University.

Wilkerson was a dominating force at Kent in 1987, leading all of Division 1 football in all-purpose yardage.

He was named the MAC MVP that season and was twice named on the All-America list.

After playing at Kent, Wilkerson became one of just three players to have his number retired at the school, a short list that includes Steeler great Jack Lambert.

Wilkerson played a year with the Steelers and a year with the World League, playing for New York/New Jersey.

He led the league in rushing in the 1991-92 season.

No information is available about what led to the stabbing.
