Yep.

(Michigan Athletic Director Bill) Martin acknowledged Saturday that the university had misinterpreted Big Ten freshman eligibility rules.

Sounds very familiar to me. I wonder if the NCAA will sweep this one under the rug as well, as Michigan is one of its bigger-name schools.

NCAA has the history of being very strict and disciplined. For major violations, they ban schools from bowl games

I wish the NFL was the same way and the Patriots were banned from post-season play

As a Penn State fan I dont think Penn State should get credit for the win if it is forfeited. Michigan beat us. It would be a very tainted win.

Who cares? Michigan's win is already tainted

No team in the Big 10 is going undefeated so this would give us a shot at winning the Big 10 title

actually the player was eligible under the NCAA guidelines. he was a transfer student from another conference and evidently their eligibility requirements were not the same as the Big 10.

Big Ten weighing Michigan punishment

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - The Big Ten may take up to three weeks to decide whether to discipline Michigan's football program for using an ineligible player.

Athletic director Bill Martin said he didn't know whether penalties, if any, might include forfeiture of the Wolverines' 14-9 victory over then-No.10 Penn State on Sept. 22. It was one of three games in which freshman safety Artis Chambers played this season.
Martin said Saturday that the university immediately contacted the Big Ten after learning that Chambers was ineligible under the conference's freshman rules. Chambers, who enrolled at Michigan in January, cannot play the remainder of the season and did not travel with the team for Saturday's game at Northwestern. The Fort Wayne, Ind., native can still practice with the Wolverines.

Big Ten spokesman Scott Chipman declined Monday to elaborate on the process a compliance subcommittee would use in determining possible sanctions against Michigan.

Martin and athletic department spokesman Bruce Madej said Monday that they could not talk about Chambers' case because of privacy laws. Coach Lloyd Carr refused to discuss the situation at his weekly news conference Monday.

Martin acknowledged Saturday that the university had misinterpreted Big Ten freshman eligibility rules.

"Obviously, I take full responsibility for that," he said. "This isn't on Lloyd - it's on us."

Martin said he hoped the matter would be resolved sometime this week.

How about a review of the refs and all the shady calls at the big house while they're at it. I made up my mind after that game that I'm not even going to bother watching anymore if the games are going to be decided ahead of time. College football has about the same credibility as pro wrestling IMO. Only difference is Michigan pays its players better.

I care. I dont want to win the Big 10 (since we dont have a chance with Morelli) or go to a major bowl because the Big 10 handed us a win. Michigan won...end of story. We didnt deserve the win. They did.

I'm a Bucks fan, so no love lost on the Wolverines, but this doesn't sound like cheating at all. It was a freshman, and this really does sound like a minor misunderstanding.

In defense of the Wolverines if you really want to get an edge over your opponent hopefully you can think of something that doesn't include a "freshman safety."

What's next? Sneeking the water boy in on fourth and goal. :freddy:

if we really want an edge we should just go get tom brady to come back and play ..lol

I was just kidding.

Anyway, I'm not surprised with the Big Ten. I'm thinking Delaney hates us. the NCAA may not have a problem, but I'd think Delaney's league rules would give him enough to give Michigan a swift kick in the ass. Penn State though won't get much respect for getting the win because the BCS looks at the on-field results.

I don't think they're going to beat Ohio State in all honesty unless they can figure out how to stop them from an offensive perspective. Offensively, they have a great chance, Defensively, considering how young they are, I don't what to say. The big thing Michigan will have in their favor however, is the fact that they are at home.

yeah their defense cant stop the run or the pass.... i mean a team you would have thought Michigan would have blown out only won by 10. i will have to upload my pictures from the game yesterday. my seats were in the endzone they were awesome... and i know they probably wont beat OSU... i can still hope..

oh steelman, congrats on your Penn State win yesterday too.

Thanks, I was kind of hoping we could have the Michigan game at the end of the year that could be the Big Ten championship if everything was to go accordingly.

Here is the only way Michigan beats OSU this year, and I mean the ONLY way. That's if the Buckeyes don't take them seriously after how poorly they played in the first few games. And I don't think that's likely given the importance Tressel places on this game.

Look at it objectively. OSU's defense is absolutely dominant, perhaps the best unit in the country. And they play fast, as fast as any defense they've ever put on the field. They will be able to slow down Michigans' offfnse, even if it's firing on all cylinders. Remember that they shut out Purdue's 500 yard, 50 point a game offense until 10 seconds left in the game, which is textbook garbage-time scoring.

On offense, the Buckeyes are really starting to find themselves. Considering how porous Michigans defense is this year, I think the Buckeyes will have little trouble moving the ball up and down the field. The offense is also faster than it was last year. It's actually advantageous for Michigan that OSU has a pure pocket passer instead of a runner, and Boeckman is a bit of a gunslinger, too. If he tries to force things like he did against Purdue, Michigan could make things interesting.

The Buckeyes chip on their shoulder will be bigger at the end of the season then it was at the beginning, especially if this game can get them back to the big dance.

Finally, Tressel absolutely owns Lloyd Carr. I see no reason for that to change.
