Bengals' WR Henry cleared to return to practice
October 24, 2007
CINCINNATI (TICKER) -- Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry, serving an eight-game suspension for violation of NFL policies, has been cleared to return to the practice field.

Henry practiced with the Bengals on Wednesday after the NFL informed the team that he could resume on-field activities in preparation for a possible return to the active roster.

Henry's suspension ends after Cincinnati plays its eighth game at Buffalo on November 4.

This could be the last chance for the 24-year-old Henry to save his career. In April, he was suspended for the first half of the season by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for his repeated off-the-field problems.

Arrested four times between December 2005 and June 2006, Henry also served a two-game suspension last season for a DUI arrest.

The latest suspension came after Henry pleaded guilty for allowing three minors to drink alcohol in his hotel room last spring. He spent two days in jail for the offense.

Henry originally was sentenced to 90 days in jail, but under a plea deal, was required to serve only the two days.

According to police, Henry brought alcohol for three females under 18 years of age into a Covington, Kentucky motel room April 29.

Henry's other offenses included marijuana possession, carrying a concealed firearm and DUI.

Henry avoided jail time while resolving his first two criminal cases, pleading guilty to marijuana possession in December 2005 and completing a drug rehabilitation program.

In September of 2006, he pleaded guilty to a concealed weapon charge and received 100 hours of community service.

In November of last year, a Clermont County judged tossed out the results of a Breathalyzer test which had measured Henry's blood alcohol level at .092. Ohio's legal limit is .08.

Henry tied for the team lead with nine touchdown catches last season, making 36 receptions for 605 yards. As a rookie in 2005, Henry caught 31 passes for 422 yards and six TDs.

For all the Steelers players, coaches and personnel at the game this week, I recommend kevlar for all their body armor needs. Strong enough to stop a Chris Henry bullet, yet flexible enough to still play and coach the game.
