Earlier this week I was optimistic, now looking at the big picture I'm not as confident.

-We have Arians throwing up some smokescreens in the media.
-Steelers are favored by 9.
-Rats coming off a bye.
-75th Anniversary Celebration. Rats would love to spoil the party.
-Our O-Line vs. Ravens front 7.
-Last years performances vs. the Rats do not inspire much optimism.
-The O-Line, especially Kendoll Simmons...ugh...

The X-Factor of the Steelers is Tomlin and Ben. After Cowher embarrassed himself and the team last year vs. the Rats, I am eager to see what Tomlin will do. Ben was throttled by the Rats D last year, I am truly wondering how he'll handle Baltimore's Pass Rush next Monday. Rex Ryan will no doubt try the same crap and bring a lot of blitzes. Ben has to get rid of the ball and quickly.

I said it before and I'll say it again. This will be one of those crucial games that define the 2007 Steelers as a team. And how much different they are from the 2006 version. Now is not the time to screw the pooch. The AFC North is on the line in primetime against the defending division champs.

One matchup that favors Pittsburgh is our WRs against Baltimore's backup CBs. Look for the play calling to take advantage of that early.

last year, the ravens seemed to know every offensive play that was coming (courtesey of what our "smarter than a bag of rocks" back up qb was able to deliver).

by the same token the steelers seemed just inches away from sacking mcnair as many times as ben was sacked. the ravens picked everything up perfectly and were able to strike for the kill shots at just the right momentg and situation.

i think these things even themselves out this weekend,

billick was always keen to cowhers mannerisms and play calling tendencies. it may be different and catch them a little off guard with a new coach.

show me the wrinkles the steelers have been working on to address last years 2 losses to the ravens.

They were also able to take advantage of Anthony Smith's overagressive tendancy to bite on play action which left Troy in the trailing position as their receivers scored on two passes over the top. Hopefully, Smith takes a more disciplined approach this year.

Or hopefully Troy can actually cover someone and earn his paycheck

Troy was down the field and smith was supposed to cover but fell for the play action, Troy is fast but he was far to be able to catch up with the open receivers

Lets hope a full year of experience can help this young kid make plays and prove that he should be the starter at FS.
Troy has not proved himself much this year except for a few place, but a hard tough game by him monday night will really prove himself to me even though i would never look down on him!

Or hopefully Troy can actually cover someone and earn his paychecktroy was drafted as the intra-division answer for todd heap. whether it be smith or troy, i would hope to not get caught and burnt for multiple receptions (especially in the redzone) by a tight end we supposedly found an answer to.

i think the entire week of ravens game planning against the steelers is mostly devoted to ways of isolating heap 1:1 on a linebacker.

sometimes when troy isnt in on a play, its simply because teams are devising schemes to go away from him. that happens in the nfl...

Im taking edman's side on this one the ravens are coming off a bye and they are also the ravens who outscored us by like 40 combined points in our two games last year... i dont think roethlisberger's play was affected by the motorcycle because against kansas city in like week 4 or 5 he lit 'em up for like a near perfect QB ratin....

Not to get too far off-topic, but I also recall the first two games of the 2002 season exposing Lee Flowers' weakness in pass coverage. Luckily Pittsburgh was able to draft Troy in order to fix this weakness.

Show me a pass rush, consistent blocking by the OL, little or no penalties and no turnovers and I'll show you a Steelers victory.

I think the Steelers are going to be a helluva lot more fired up with the 75th Anniversary Celebration than the Ratfinks wanting to play spoiler. Most of the living Steelers greats are going to be in attendance, plus they are going to be on national television for the world to see. Me thinks the team is going to rise to the occasion and show the world just what they're made of. :tt02:
